Artist: Lea Salonga Song: Someone to Watch Over Me Concert: The Broadway Concert From the Musical: Oh, Kay!/ Crazy for You Year: 2002 Other Info: Concert was held at The Philippine International Convention Center
Somewhere there is a song unwritten that this woman cant sing. All the others are her personal possession. It absolutely amazes me that some people dont recognize her unapproached brilliance simply because she is of a different race. Were she caucasian rather than Filipino everyone would laud her for what she is, the greatest female singer of all time. Her voice is breathtaking in any style, her enunciation flawless and her feeling so intense she becomes the character she is singing about. As if this were not enough she is perhaps the most beautiful woman ever to grace a stage. The most perfect combination of beauty, talent and style that nature ever saw fit to fashion. There is no one to match Lea Salonga.
Lea Salonga literally doesn’t get as much recognition in America as she does in the Philippines. Her voice. HER VOICE. She is so talented and is so brilliant in her technique that she is able to embrace every character she sings and plays as, but her recognition only leaves her as a Broadway singer. She has an incredible voice and is able to control it so well to evoke emotion in her audience, capture us in the moment, and it’s insane to me that she is less idolised than the artists in current pop media. Like… I doubt a lot of people in the world barely know she exists. Except for the filos. And people who’ve seen her work. Broadway people. Broadway kids. You know the drill. Anyways. Ily Lea Salongaaaaaa 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Very entertaining, intelligent, and informative comment. Thanks so far. Miss Salonga shouldnt be as shy as a little lamb coming to Europe, and earning a bankful of money.
She is SOOO underrated in this age of “mediocre lip sync vocal edited stars.” Her voice is one of the greats, recognizable, widest range, & impeccable rich tone & diction, ALL while actually singing live.
@@davidbjornstad7759 late, but the guitarist is Cesar Aguas. He's known for his work in many Filo TV shows, and I think he's accompanied Lea in a few other concerts of hers.
@@janasofiahupp9578 Thank you. I know next to nothing about Filipino entertainment, but when I hear a collaboration like this, I like to be able to look up other work. Marvelous collaboration; it's like they were thinking with the same soul.
I always think of her as having that perfect bright clear higher tone, which she certaintly has here, but you can also REALLY hear how rich and gorgeous her lower register is in this performance.
Brilliant rendition of this timeless song there’s a special innocence about her that I find captivating So rare these days love her singing good voice control she really knows how to deliver a song Toronto Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Why didnt we hear of her before? Her voice has the right vibrato and volume to master every gig. Europe's next superstar: Miss Lea Salonga! Give us more like this!
I can't believe I didn't comment on this when I listened to it last year. What an absolutely perfect collaboration of human voice and guitar. It doesn't get any better than this -- what a cliché, but it's true, notwithstanding.
Kind of reminds me of Dorothy Dandrige. Lea is such a great singer and performer. She doesn't get the recognition she deserves in America, although she is well known. In my opinion, Lea and Audra McDonald are the best in Broadway. They bring everything that they do to life.
The style of this song reminds me of the song from 42nd Street called, "I Only Have Eyes for You " and is sung by another underrated vocalist on Broadway (idr her name?). Simply Heartfelt singers. Sade-like, even.
Beautiful every song. She takes my mind and heart to places I want to go & Stay! Wow! A Sweetheart to share her soul with us, undeserved. She makes me RISE & be better, you know what I mean? She may call it a gift..but I think it is her hearts love. Thank you!
There's a saying old says that love is blind Still were often told, seek and ye shall find So I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind Looking everywhere, haven't found him yet Hes the big affair I cannot forget Only man I ever think of with regret I'd like to add his initial to my monogram Tell me, where is the shepherd for this lost lamb? There's a somebody I'm longing to see I hope that he turns out to be Someone who'll watch over me I'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood I know I could always be good Someone who'll watch over me Although he may not be the man some Girls think of as handsome To my heart he carries the key Won't you tell him please to put on some speed Follow my lead, oh, how I need Someone to watch over me
My first song of hers, not my last. I love this song as it was something my mom played a lot. I have never heard of this singer. What an amazing voice. I will be listening to a lot of her songs tonight.
This person does a good job - the reason I like mr Holland 's opus version is because of the orchestra accompaniment The orchestra playing in the movie made it a little more memorable 🎉

SOme tunes require a specific type of voice, and for visual performances, also feature best with the performer hving the right look. Lea encompases both those qualities. Her performance for this rendition was about the best I've heard. I compare her to my favorite vocalist for this specific song, Jean Louisa Kelly, singing this in "Mr. Holland's Opus." I just subscribe to hear other presentations by this marvelous ssinger. Bob Maverick stanford - Founder & chief Producer for Magnum Records
I've listened to several versions of this song cause it's my favorite. She's the best version so far, I love Ella Fitzgerald & Sinatra's too, but Lea brought it home for me. ❤

I could cry salty tears Where have I been all these years? Little wow, tell me now How long has this been goin' on? There were chills up my spine And some thrills I can't define Listen sweet, I repeat How long has this been goin' on? Oh, I feel that I could melt Into heaven I'm hurled I know how Columbus felt Finding another world Kiss me once, then once more What a dunce I was before What a break, for heaven's sake How long has this been goin' on? Let me dream that it's true Kiss me twice, then once more That makes thrice, let's make it four What a break, for heaven's sake How long has this been goin' on?
I think she may be allowing herself to be overcoached into expressing affect. She's a very pretty woman with a great voice. It's an existential song. Hell, it's GERSHWIN. Think Amygdala and just sing it.
Beautiful rendition as always. I just wish Lea would avoid doing the "run on notes" or melismatic style of singing. She can reach the high notes and sustain it like she does on musical theater. She doesn't have to play with the notes up and down. That's not her style. Josh Groban so far has avoided that kind of singing.
