This is close to two thirds through the concert and he is recovered from throat cancer. Iron Maiden are the perfect live band.

I've heard he sings the entire concert playlist while rollerblading to prepare for a tour. He also was the pilot of the 757 they used for this world tour. He wrote a couple of books. He helped a brewery come up with a few Maiden inspired beers. He was once the 7th ranked fencer in England. I think he sings for some band also.

The moment you said you didn't know who Steve Harris (the bassist) was and even said he was probably an underrated bassist, you had me giggling. I can tell this was your first maiden song (and badass pick for one might i add) but you will soon realize Steve Harris isn't just a crucial member of the band... he is one of the most influential hard rock/ metal bassists to ever exist

As great as they are and as good musicians they are. One particular point I would like newer bands take from this is.... They are fantastic *entertainers* . Don't forget to entertain your audience, they come to get something more than just the music.

“Dance of Death” from the live recording called “En Vivo” is a huge song. Super dramatic. Great story telling through the lyrics and through the instruments.

Bruce has talked in interviews how the gestures and stage antics, as well as projecting his voice are all part of tring to make those in the back of the house feel like they're much closer

I went more than 20 years without missing a Maiden show in Detroit..... saw them EVERY time they came

I was fortunate enough to watch this tour live twice, the first show here in São Paulo, Brazil, a rain storm ruined the fireworks and a lot of stuff from the stage so they promised they'd be back the next year to do justice to their concert. They kept their promise and came back, the ticket prices were cheaper and ironically once again a rain storm hit us, because of that there were over 20k people outside at the moment the band was supposed to go on stage, then their manager showed up and said they were gonna wait until everybody was in because it was unfair to start it knowing so many people had trouble reaching the venue. Then they delivered the show of our lives. Every band should take note from Iron Maiden about how to keep the fans happy and coming back.

You really have to see them live to appreciate what they do. My first time was 1983, my last one was 2019, and both were just amazing. The energy they have while being in their 60's is unmatched.

I am 50 now and grew up with these guys. I'm impressed with you being so humble, young man. You are great.

The thing that amazes me about Bruce Dickinson is that the guitars don't drowned his voice out and you can still hear him over the guitar playing which is phenomenal

Very nice observations on the band. Bruce said when they started playing large arenas, he realized they needed to be active, animated and "larger than life" in order for the whole crowd to stay engaged. If you're a sucker for crowd engagement, any live metal concert from Bueno Aires, Argentina will hit. Those fans sing along to the guitar solos. No joke.

Thank you ! Appreciate learning about Iron Maiden - this phenomenal trailblazing English band that has influenced so very many metal bands in their 40 plus years of existence. So awe inspiring! After listening to Hallowed Be Thy Name and delving into the lyrics (loved it), I just had to do a bit more research. Learning that Steve Harris wrote such incredibly academic yet grounded lyrics based on historical events (Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great) and literature (Charge of the Light Brigade was a fave of my father and grandfather which was the inspiration for The Trooper). Then discovering that they have a song titled Phantom of the Opera - that just called to me. Saw a video of Iron Maiden playing at a festival and the aerial view of the endless sea of fans was breathtaking. The band has received countless awards including honorary doctorates ! What blew my mind is that they have hardly gotten radio play and mainstream support yet their achievements / album sales / recognition / influence on other artists (eg Metallica) but not limited to heavy metal artists are legendary. 47 years since Steve Harris formed the group in 1975 and still going strong! Wow ! How wonderful to learn new things every day! Thank you!

Just saw them the day you uploaded this video and even after going through cancer Bruce still dominates. Of course aging is evident but I would never hold that against him or the band because they've been doing it longer than most bands and at a super high-level. Throw on top of that the amazing stage production and theatrics and you have yourself an unbeatable show.

Watching Bruce on stage always made me think of a hyper child with the energy he exudes. He is and always shall be the king of frontmen! And that voice! This video honestly doesn’t do his voice justice. It’s even more amazing than you could possibly imagine!

Rime of the Ancient Mariner from the same Somewhere back in time tour. You will be highly impressed and delighted, it is an immaculate performance, and only after that do Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Rock am Ring 2014 this is how you do immersion, they actually transport you to another place! Keep it up, Up the irons! Everyday a new person is exposed to Iron Maiden and enjoys it, our world instantly becomes a bit better. I'm about to see them for the 9th time live, it never gets old, they always impress you in a new way.

This was like 25 years after the original live performance of this same song. This recording is incredible enough but his voice was on point even more 25 years earlier. Its worth watching even if not as a reaction. Its iconic. Bruce was flying that plane they show at the beginning. He's been a pilot for many years. Yes, they have 3 6string guitars and a bass. All are really good. If Iron Maiden had a "sound" its the layering of the 3 guitars. They jump back n forth taking lead at times, the other 2 typically harmonizing in the back. Pluce Bruce voice is insane.

Right now, Iron Maiden is touring the states - Legacy of the Beast tour plus they are supporting their latest album, Senjutsu. You asked about 3 guitarists: Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers. Adrian and Bruce left the band in mid 90's. Blaze stepped in as lead singer, and Janick Gers stepped in for Adrian. During their album, Brave New World, both Bruce and Adrian returned to Iron Maiden. Instead of dropping Janick from the band, he stayed in the band making 3 guitars band. They are known as "Three Amigos" by Maiden Fans. All three share leads on each song. You probably know that I am a huge Iron Maiden fan. True, I have since in 1983 with their Piece of Mind album. Nicko McBrain (drummer) replaced their other drummer, Clive Burr who died in 2013 back in 1983. Nicko back in 2009, opened restaurant called Rock n Roll Ribs in Florida. I just saw them in Tulsa on the 15th, absolutely best concert of my life. You have to see them live!! Been listening to them since 1984, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the poem, they turned into a song almost 14 minutes long.

Now you have to watch the Rock in Rio version of "Fear of the dark". You won't see a better interaction between a band and their fans ever

You should read Bruce's autobiography. He piloted that plane they went in tour with... But that's just a little bit of what makes that guy so special. Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is a great life experience, just like Fear of the Dark, When the Wild Winds Blow, Powerslave, The Clairvoyant, Sign of the Cross, Blood Brothers, The Clansman... I mean, there are the classics like The Trooper, The Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills, but I don't think these are their best songs - however, they are definitely great live though, so you can't go wrong here either 😂 Bruce Dickinson actually did some really great solo albums. Years of the Dragon, Inertia, Accident of Birth, Chemical wedding, The Tower, Book of Thel, Gates of Urizen, Eternal... He also worked on a documentary called "Scream for me Sarajevo"... As in his solo tour they went to Sarajevo... During Civil War... It's partially about him and the band, but mostly about the civil war in the balkans and how music helped the young people to keep their hope alive that that war would end. You'll have a difficult time to find a metal Frontman... Or Sunday un general with such a "CV" 😊 that guy is truly inspiring.

My joy in watching his video is your joy in watching Maiden. I've followed the group since 1979, they don't bow down to the media and as you quite rightly said they have forged there own path. The reason they are arguably the best metal band of all time is the legacy they have and the word of mouth that brings new fans to the family. May I wish you success with your own group and thank you for a great breakdown of my favourite Maiden song of all time. Empire of The Clouds. Bruce's masterpiece.

No worries at all if you're not a fan of Maiden. I'm 56, and was a massive fan when I was in HS in the early '80's and shortly after, but I got burned out on them and long since moved on. Definitely were one of the earliest Metal bands, but the genre has evolved so much over 4 decades. Dickinson, Halford, Dio the Holy Trinity of early Metal vocalists. And Steve Harris is definitely NOT underrated. He is a legend in the genre. He IS maiden, in that Maiden is his band-he's the Boss!

One thing that I haven't really seen acknowledged is that this is an end-of-set number. The band have already been performing for 70-80 minutes and they still deliver huge amounts of energy and just nail it.

And yes the lead singer was flying the jumbo jet the band tours on. Bruce is just a beast on many levels.

Great Reaction! The live performance you chose was from their documentary called Flight 666 (around 2010) and alot of it was when they toured around South America and those metal heads down there are CRAZY for metal. At every concert the crowds were insane. On a side note, the plane you saw landing at the start of the video was theirs (I think a 747) and Bruce has his pilots license and piloted the plane on their tour.

Maiden is Spectacular! I've seen them several times. I recently saw them on September 17th in Denver. Even if you're sitting at the back of the arena, Bruce makes you feel like you're right next to the stage.

Been listening to Maiden since 1982. Early Maiden was metal with punk flavor for first 2 albums, then classic metal for the next 4 albums then their 7th album, 7th Son of a 7th Son was prog metal.

Saw them live for the first time 39 years ago when I was 14 - going to see them live again for the 6th time next month. Iron Maiden is a fan’s band… they will give you 110% every show and never disappoint! Legends! They live to tour and perform. Absolutely amazing show!

See the metal bands from the late 80's and early 90's could actually sing and play their instruments they didn't need auto tune or recorded tracks . That's the difference between great musicians and the musicians of today .

Iron Maiden isn't just a band, but an experience. I highly recommend seeing Iron Maiden live as soon as you can. I saw them live a couple years ago and they are amazing. They make sure every song is engaging to watch on stage and hear. I even saw one of the guitarists playing a big part with his feet. Sadly, Bruce even said that he is getting older so it's getting to be difficult to do all the stuff he normally does on stage.

One more "note" about Bruce Dickinson... he was the pilot of the 'Iron Maiden' plane that you saw landing in the beginning. He flew them around the world for that tour.

What's amazing is this is their freaking encore!! His voice still sounds this amazing at the end of a 2-3 hour show!! I've been lucky to see them twice in person, and they are still so impressive live.

You've gotten me feeling nostalgic about Iron Maiden. I first heard them from one of my best friends back where I grew up. Him and his twin brother lived across the street from the house across the street from me. One day he I went over to his house and knocked on the door to get him to come outside to hang out and he told me to come inside for a minute. He showed me a skate video, Misled Youth and fast forwarded the vhs to Jamie Thomas' part. This song started playing and we both jammed out to it. He found the band name and song name in the credits. It was Wasted Years by Iron Maiden. He told me that, "I'm going to find and listen to everything from this band." From that point on, they were his favorite band and one of my top 3 favorite bands from then on. He actually got to see them live. I had moved away by then, but I still listen and love their music even now. Glad to see you learning about one of the Greatest Bands of all time. I saw them most recently in 2017 and they were on point in every aspect! I was exhausted by the end of the show just watching them… and never mind that they are all double my age and in their 60s! Them and Sabbath ❤
