leadership loneliness is often felt and experienced but not discussed. This is offen one of the downsides/cons of moving up the leadership ladder.
🪜Leadership loneliness can be attributed to the need for leaders to maintain a certain level of professionalism and distance from their “subordinates”, who may have once been their peers. Thus, changing the dynamics of their relationship.
🪜This feeling of isolation can take a toll on a leader's mental and emotional well-being, as well as their social health and well-being.
🪜Overcoming leadership loneliness can be challenging, but there are several strategies that can help. Here are a few…
1. Acknowledge and recognize that leadership loneliness is a real experience. Talk about it with family, outside of work friends, a therapist and/or a leadership coach.
2. Build a Support Network/System by seeking out mentors, joining professional networks, and/or finding a peer group of fellow leaders where you can discuss your challenges and concerns. Having a supportive community of like-minded individuals can provide you with understanding, guidance, and a sense of belonging.
3. Talk with your mentors and supervisors about how they navigated shifting/changing relationships as they travelled along their #leadershipjourney
