A very dear friend of mine was an alcoholic. She grew up a witness, her father was a pedophile, her mother was very abusive. My friend had been married three times, had five children. She NEEDED help but was disfellowshipped. She tried for 10 years to be reinstated. She finally was but never got help for her drinking problem. I watched her literally drink herself to death. I have never watched someone die from liver failure, it was horrendous. The failure to get her the help or encourage her to seek the help she needed was unforgivable. 😡

An elder came to my house with a memorial invitation in hand today, but I didn't answer the door. Done with that cult.

After 8 years, I am now relieved of my decision to leave. I can laugh at the JWs without being triggered.

the funny thing is they think that talking to apostates is the only reason why people are leaving.

as a kid/teenager I used to get SUPER uncomfortable when they would announce some one was disfellowshipped, or announced as 'bad association', or the like. it was always akward and wrong to me.

I remember an unbieving father showing up at the Kingdom Hall and physically threatening elders because he did not like other men disciplining his children.

My sister got disfellowshiped in 1986 for adultery, remarriage. She started applying for reinstatement with her new husband after about a year, kept getting denied. She kept applying and it took 6 years! She had 3 babies and had to go to meetings disfelliwshipoed and ignored her oldest son was 6 years old by the time she got reinstated. I hated how cruel it was to those 3 little boys to have to go to meetings and be treated like that, no friends, no social interaction with other kids. Being treated like little lepers during their most important formational years!

The idea that my elders had read a document equating apostasy and chıIđ ąbưsė and not seen an issue with it would *horrify* me

8 years, it took 8 years for someone to be reinstated in our circuit. Yes, they schemed to get a divorce and marry, and yet, so did another couple who were reinstated after 3 months, who did the same thing, yet their families were endowed with elders.

The best Update I'm waiting for is the disbandment of "faithful and discrete slave", 607bce, 1914, 1919, "other sheep", overlapping generation, dissuading higher Education and blood & shunning. Great thanks Wally.

These changes show how desperatey the GB is holding on to shunning. Shunning hasn't changed. Saying hello at the meeting or being invited to one is not even a dent in shunning. It's an insult. The changes the GB made are not to shunning but to how one gets to be shunned (longer process) and for how long (potentially shorter time). They seem to have an even harder line on "apostates" than before. Absolutrly no hellos for them or elders checking up on them. Its crazy. The alleged apostasy I was dfd for ten years ago is today's doctrine. And that would make me on equal footing with a pedophile? Wow.

I was DFed for 3 years. I wrote 25 letters, never missed a meeting lol. They made my life and marriage at the time hell. Then after being reinstated after the 3 years, i spent 5 years under restrictions, like no commenting and labeled as a bad association. All for having sex with my girl a day before we married.. i was 20 at that time.. 😂😂 i left the org at 31

Although some of this is indeed good news for WT's victims, it's infuriating because it's all because of the court cases, which the victims won't get to recognize since they are shielded from facts. When I saw that ridiculous man with a beard yesterday, I lost it because his face made it patently obvious that the only reason for that change was that one of them wanted to grow one. And it was and is also obvious that, although cult members will think they are so merciful, the real reason is to fool courts. I just can't stand them.

I think being disfellowshipped and having someone ask "why" I had to "prove" myself to a group of men was the best thing that ever happened to me. I can no longer even stomach the idea of WHY anyone would want to go back after all this time. I feel sorry for everyone still in it, but have grown numb to those I once loved that put the rules of a manmade organization over those they should have protected and/or claimed to love.

I’d rather everyone leave that cult. But if that’s not gonna happen, shunning should be abolished. The GB, elders, and congregation members should apply 1st Thess 4:11 and “mind their own business”. When it comes to abuse (sa, dv, child sa, etc…), those things are CRIMINAL matters and should be reported to law enforcement without fail or delay.

Had a pimi friend brag about the changes. After i informed him of the Norway trial, he made fun of people thinking df'ing was abusive. I lost it and probably burned a bridge, but damn if it didn't feel good putting him in his place

Seems like an act of desperation on the part of the governing body. There was a brief period in the mid 1970’s where saying a greeting to a disfellowshipped person was slightly relaxed.

I grew up Episcopalian and for a long time women had to wear both chapel caps and dresses. Well I was an acolyte and one Sunday I began my cycle and I showed up in pants. They weren’t jeans it was a pants suit. My mom plot me a suit and I paid for the matching pants. My mom said that I couldn’t wear them and I said that I started my cycle and since my robe came to my ankles that no one would know and if boys get to wear pants I can too. When boys have to wear dresses with pantyhose then I’ll only wear those. That my mom began wearing pants too and stopped wearing her chapel cap which I never wore! Religion in my opinion should not be controlling!

It was over a year of going to meetings DF'd for me. Eventually another congregation had to get involved because one of the brothers on my committee hated me and thought I needed extra punishment because my Dad was a presiding overseer. So stupid. I was reinstated and then left a year later.

7 members of my family were molested over a 40 year period. He was convicted but still not df'd!!!! I married an "unbeliever." His father was baptized. His mother had studied. He was studying because i brought him to meetings. Most people were cool. My BEST friend of 10 years shunned us. She had planned on me being her maid of honor. I was uninvited to her wedding, though she stated i could go to the ceremony, just not the reception. Nah. I don't need that kind of "friend." I've barely spoken to her in the 12 years since and i couldn't be happier. She looks old.

In what world do we live where you have to commit a bigger sin by sleeping with someone else instead of just leaving that person, just in order to be eligible to remarry. Sleeping around can be forgiven and accepted back into the fold with a slap on the wrist, but oh boy if you dare just leave that person and get remarried again, you would biblically be exiled for life. Ridiculous!

“The governing body has decided” to allow a member to say a brief ‘hello’ to those deemed unworthy to be forgiven of their trespasses (wrongdoer/ sinner ) and was brave (foolish) enough to enter a KH. What a loving provision🤮 yep, it’s all about qualifying for repentance, so much for extending love and forgiveness 70x7 etc…

I think these new rules are going to cause divisions among the members. While everyone is fighting and judging each other, the GB will keep their control over them all.

I was reinstated after 6 months, while a sister who was seeking reinstatement at the same time took 7 months. She'd been disfellowshipped twice, so they made her jump through extra hoops.

I agree with you Wally. I decided to go back when I was pregnant with my oldest. I had him about a month after I started trying to get reinstated. He was 14 months old when I got reinstated. I went through severe postpartum depression in isolation. It was brutal. I would not wish that on anyone. My mental health would have been a lot more stable if I’d had community support. I don’t believe that would have kept me from leaving later on, if anything, it may have accelerated the process, because so would not have spent a solid year recovering from deep depression.

Watchtower has 'gone ahead and has not abided in the teaching of the Christ' so they don't have God. 2 John 9. Their man-made rules and lethal judicial system make them the apostates. So it seems we can't greet them! Many thanks Wally.

If the child doesn’t have two or more witnesses to the crime of the sexual abuse, or the sexual abuser says that they are sorry or if he/she returns, then the child has to forgive and love that person even to the point of giving up their lives for them (May 2019 Watchtower). If the child remains with the parents who stay JW’s they will have to sit in the Kingdom Hall with them, go witnessing etc with that sexual abuser. What thought is given to the child? The abuser is looked after what of the child.

About the Norway thing , it is not going to change how the JWS engage in Dfing people, even A Morris stated that. They just wanted to keep on receiving the money that the Norway government was giving the Org. This recent letter to all elders reconfirms that and maybe that was the original intent. 😉

This recent letter to elders seems like a reconfirmation of how strong the elders should be in response to criticisms by outside institutions like governments or internally like adjoined members who voice criticisms of the Org's doctrines and rules of conduct regarding Dfiing in general . They still are taking the stand as in if there are accusations of child sexual abuse of members, investigate the matter and if there is no admittance by the accused that there should be no more further action. There have been obvious incidences of active JWS of exploiting this to their advantage, leaving JWS children or young teens vulnerable . 😳

I find it interesting that they don’t say what kind of child abuse. Are they referring to child sexual abuse, physical abuse, verbal abuse, mental abuse? Why don’t they specify what kind of abuse.

The scheming to end a marriage thing is also insane because what if your spouse is physically and emotionally abusive. You can separate from them for your safety, but you're never allowed to move on. And the WT states that the "innocent" party is the one who has to file or make the decision in an adultery case. So even then it's more difficult.

As someone who was molested as a child, chose to do what was necessary to end a horrible marriage and is now apostate i can unequivocally confirm that these 3 aren't close to being on the same level. Being sexually molested affects you the rest of your life. Decades of talk therapy, EMDR, RIM (a new modality that rebuilds neural pathways), at 48 l'm relatively healed from the abuse. Leaving my husband and becoming an apostate whistleblower were cakewalks in comparison.

I called my 2 siblings whom have shunned me for 24 years. My elder brother and my pioneer sister whom is married to a elder. This is their understanding of the lmao " New Light ". ITS ONLY IF I came back to the KH they would say hello, Period. I reminded them both, I was not disfellowshiped, nor disassociated, just walked away. I was reminded they would not be inviting me to share a meal with them because thats not changed or have regular conversation. So imo there is ZERO change in the realtime shunning policy.
