It will probably lift the inner front even more now. It lifts because the rear is too soft. It was a good suspension for the tires of the time. You probably need to double the rear spring rate to get the front down. It's not the spring rate that makes a car harsh it's mainly the shocks.

Duct tape your vacuum cleaner hose onto the fuel filler neck and turn it in when you disconnect fuel lines. Vacuum cleaner isn't string enough to suck up liquid but it will suck clean air into the void you create and stop the majority of leaks. Works on trucks

I thought the roll stiffness for old 911s was meant to be soft at the back and stiff at the front. Has the philosophy changed in recent years? I recall watching Alan Hamilton's 911s coming around Bathurst's Forest Elbow, it's i/s front wheel way up in the air. Ditto Jim McKeown & Brian Foley at other tracks. I think it was all about weight transfer onto both of the driving wheels.

Hi Jeff, You probably did them up off camera, but just in case, I noticed when finishing off the fuel tank install at the 7min mark the clamps on the filler neck join hose are still loose. Thanks for all the great content.

Agree with the 911 stock suspension comment, drove my 996 with lowered springs etc for 10 years. Now I went back to stock 3 years ago, much easier to live with hardly any compromise on driving and my bumper doesn’t need respraying every couple of years from the scrapes. Love Harry, absolutely awesome Porsche!

Nice one again! But my money is on your lifting inner front tire not going down with better antiroll bar bushings. By the contrary, the sway bar is the reason why it's lifting. To counter this you may stiffen the rear but you'll loose traction in exchange. Your 911 is happy lifting in fact.

It seems that modern rubber degrades much faster however, even new Porsche, and most aftermarket stuff is a desaster - bushing deform after a year or two versus decades. I’m now going to try out modern polyurethane bushings with about the same hardness as rubber, such as Powerflex heritage line. Should give a good increase in longevity while not reducing compliance.

I've had my 73T for 34 years now, a road/hillclimb car, 2.2/2.4/3.2 engine, lovely car. In the early hillclimb days removed all the porsche bushings for poly bushes, and when I retired the car put rubber bushes back in except for the anti roll bar bushes and drop links. Kept the hard plastic (Automotion) rear bushes in (now there for 34 years) and all is really nice. Each March I apply engine oil to those banana arm bushes!

Sorting the hump out at the top of his driveway! (as seen in the first drive of the Alfarrari) I’d have given some thought to fitting a skid plate to protect that vulnerable area, while it was in pieces.

So what's to prevent scraping and bashing the new tank in the same spot? Perhaps a skid plate is in order?
@dra911
@dra911 4 месяца назад
Is that a Dansk tank? I opted to restore my tank, because the new ones didn't have an internal strainer. I also have rsr bushings all around, with adjustable dampers. Ride is not harsh at all when set to soft... But everything else is much sharper and responsive (faster steering rack helps there too.)

It’s normal with “stock suspension” to bottom out and destroy the gas tank?

It is not the suspension as the tank is between the wheels. It is the terrible pot hole repairs that have squished out making huge lumps in the road.

Discussing the front sway bar, you said that lifting the opposing front wheel in corners was a sign the sway bar wasn't working? --That's what the front swaybar does.The front swaybar is holding your front wheel up. Your discussion of stock springs seams out of place given what you said about the swaybar.
@thomassoderstrom6369
@thomassoderstrom6369 4 месяца назад
BTW, given the lean on the rear, I'd think that you might be able to bring the inner tire down a little bit by using a larger sway bar in the rear. But I wouldn't. Like you said, this isn't a track car. I thought someone made an aftermarket electronic damper system for dual-purpose cars, but I've never investigated those.
