That is one thing I really appreciate about these Honda designs, they make them so that these individual parts are repairable with a simple O-ring and or gasket set. Take their power steering pumps, very expensive, and I am sure the dealerships love selling new ones. The kicker is, just about anyone with some basic hand tools can rebuild one for around $30 or $40, depending on the Honda dealer you purchase the O-rings, seal and bearing from.
Lmfao the kicker with the power steering pumps on the v6 hondas is that they are a pain in the ass to install especially the high pressure line that routes to the rack directly, and if u got a leak on the return line even a more pain the ass problem, and i dont think basic hand tools will suffice for a power steering pump job lol espeically if you need to remove the motor mount to replace ps belt thats connected to the crank pulley
Great video! Thanks! One minor point, I wouldn't recommend spraying cleaner into the open housing. You're better to spray the rag and then wipe it. You could contaminate the oil by doing it the way you did.
It’s common on these for the VTEC solenoid (i.e. pressure switch/spool valve) on the V6 to leak. Thank heavens it’s mostly an easy fix. But I wouldn’t replace the main gasket without the mesh filter.
Had this annoying problem for the last 4 years. Just never pinpointed to this. I did the valve cover gasket earlier last year. 2006 ridgeline with 220000 miles. Thanks for the video
@@crisacevedo5819it helped like 80% but I still have a small leak. It was a real easy fix and cheap. I would recommend it, there is a lot of rubber gaskets. But now it's a small enough leak I don't worry about it now.
Man ...that was a good job! I'm convinced that my timing solenoid up top isn't leaking, nor the valve covers. I can't trust anyone to clean up around the seams like you did before reinstallation.
I just done a massive oil leak there on my grand daughters Pilot. I was sure surprised when Oreilly's had that gasket in stock. The old gasket had broke in one spot letting pressurized oil come right out above the oil filter.
Subbed. I was just about to say out loud "torque spec please" and boom - there was the answer. Thank you 2x for this video. I am hitting this project today as soon as the sun comes up.
Thank you sir you are the 1st of about 10 that has covered the pressure & solenoid seals. Im a female on a mission to know all i can when sueing the shop that royally sc...d me out of $5600 repairing an 09 Oddy...😊
Subscribed , this is exactly what I was looking for , now I’m having issues with those hoses that seem hard to obtain from what I hear , the ones that connect to my power steering ..
GUNK "Engine Brite" or Simple Green are really good cleaners for the outside of the engine block to grt all the old oil grime off. Sprsy them on liberally, let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes to emulsify. Then blast the solvents off with a high pressure gargen hose or power washer.
Wow, Awesome complete repair, to the point. Hope you are compensated well for your gift. Wish you were near me also. I've got plenty of work. Lol Really appreciate you and your time!
Changed all 3 of the gaskets you did and it still leaks. I remembered the crank shield was dry when I did the spool valve body. Where else can the leaks come from? It's apparently still leaking around the same area (passenger side lower side)
I’m assuming this is my randomly leaking suspect!Same side leaking from my 2011 Acura Mdx…small oil spills randomly leaking from passenger side right about that black boot
Getting the dang solenoid connector unplugged on my Honda V6 is near impossible. There must be more room in this Odyssey than there is on the Accord. Been struggling for almost an hour.
If you own an older Honda J series, I would do this gasket swap prior to it failing. I think I will put this on my list, do it at my next oil change. 114,000 miles on the 2013 Pilot.
Have you never ever heard brother, if it ain't broke you don't go fixing it? That seal could go 500k b4 leaking, you cannot predict the life of each individual seal.
OMG . This is it!! Is this it?? Probably... Im back here cuz of the sludge all over. This pic looks just like mine did. Now clean but never diagnosed by shop. What broke though? Over the course of a month with two incidents something broke was caught up in belt the flew out from under. That part still looked in tact but soaked in oil. The noise was horrible I thought the wheels or front end were going to fall off. B4 event no sludge, after event sludge! The damn mechanic didnt believe me & never provided ANY feedback during all their supposed work... Also my front end 6 mos later is way sloppier & nosier. Gee there goes those bushings!!!!!! As if i did have enough front end work to be done. signed, female-on-a-mission. Oh, any feedback appreciated.😊
What part would cause a leak down the back side of the motor that drips onto the exhaust? 08 odyssey, j35. Valve cover gaskets have both been gone, and the solenoid on the backside isn’t leaking, but I can’t see anything else.
cool video thank you for the info. i had no need disconnect the filter arm i just took out the screws and replaced the gasket. no big deal just have something for the oil drip and break cleaner to clean up the area.
So you're saying the 1hr job in doing the filter housing, should've have been a 9-hour maintenance prevention by doing the oil pump while I was in there? By that logic, I should've pulled the transmission and did the rear main seal also if I'm doing a axle seal... is this correct, please explain your logic here
Parts Shooter, once again, great video. I'll be darn, mine is leaking after putting in all 3 gaskets. How long should I let it run to see where it leaks from? And you briefly mentioned, that the switch thing can leak also?? Has anyone mentioned that to you? Thank you!
You may have a leak elsewhere, cracked housing or human error during install🤔. Things happen! Try rechecking your work or clean the area and check for leaks
Parts shooter, once again, your video saved me! Besides this gasket, my oil pressure switch was leaking. (If you go to 7:00 in your video, you see the the black boot over the switch). Wanted to share that in case somebody else checked out your video!
My 2009 Honda Pilot 3.5 oil filter housing doesn't have a pressure switch or VTech solenoid attached to it, but the o-ring kit I got for it has gaskets for each. Any ideas?
Is there a way to remove just the male piece for the oil filter adapter? My new oil pan doesn’t have one and I can’t get the part anytime soon so I want to take it off the old one
My 2005 keeps setting off the check engine light and the vsa then the van will go into protection mode. what would cause the oil pressure to drop ounce the motor warms up.?
@juliescurlock4350 oil pressure can drop due to low oil level, weak oil pump, incorrect oil viscosity, excessive main bearing clearance, and failed oil pressure sensor.
Keep in mind if resealing rhe oil housing DOESN'T take care of the leak, then yoi need to reseal the oil pump. There os an O-ring between oil pump and rhe engine block that likes to leak put the top and run down the outside of the oil pump onto the oil filter housing.
Hey mate, i have some annoying problem with my van, and i saw something simmilar here at your channel, where i can contact you to explain you my problem and if you are able to give me some advice? I would appreciate a lot
Could a bad gasket cause white smoke to come out? I’m getting white smoke coming out from the right side. Not sure if this is the cause but I did notice that side of the car is dirty from oil.
Extremely bad valve cover leak or power steering hose leak will cause long standing smoke under the hood. Because of the location, typically you won't see smoking because it's away from the exhaust
@andresmontemayor5354 😆great... now I just need youtube to transfer those savings onto me that everyone saved! 😆 580,000,000 should come through next month from RU-vid.
@@partsshooter or you can disassemble the cv joint. They also have a pneumatic tool to stretch the new boot over the cv joint. I've seen vibration issues on Honda's with aftermarket half shafts. Usually dealer OEM is the cure. So the reason I posted what I did was the cheapest and easiest way out while keeping a good cv axle. Now if it clicks while turning; go ahead and replace it.
