Thanks. What I was looking for. You explained it clearly and straightforward. like how you ended video :) creating a little mess, so true as one has to take off the drain plumbing as well to get to the back of the mixer tap

Hi Al, got a question here. Planning some DIY plumbing and fitting a T for a washing machine supply. Seems my plumbing could be either 15mm or half inch. Is there an easy way to tell what it is?
@dereton33
@dereton33 4 года назад
It will most likely be 15 mm if you have a house older than the 1972 then you may still have half an inch. Do not worry though as 15 mm fits half inch anyway.
@dereton33
@dereton33 4 года назад
Sorry should say no older than 1972. It is very hard to tell the difference between 15 mm and half inch pipes except that the pipe fittings look old on half inch.

Another great video....just had a problem with mixer taps...New but faulty...My question is how could it be intermittent fault. I discovered leak all came out ruined the floor...turned off water got emergency plumber in. Turned back on water when he was there....no leak.....so he has been gone 20 minutes started again. I sourced the leak at the end of cable from new taps. Then again it became intermittent...don't understand why...now put in new taps!@

I got mine in a tap repair bundle from my local plumbing shop here in Teignmouth. You will also find them in a pound shop that sell them in a tap washer repair kit.

Got a Single Lever Mixer Basin Tap I've had for about 7yrs with flexible connectors. Got a dripping coming down the hose, and no water on the topside of the basin, so got a replacement pair which had double seals at the top and guess what... still got a drip and it's from the same side (the hot). Can't really see far up enough inside the tap when fitted, to see if it's defintely from the hose and I did hand tighten followed it with a spanner. Now I've watched your video it's dawned on me it only leaks when the tap is running? Do you think it's the seal inside that's the tap problem?

Yes it will be.

Hi, My mixer tap ( the same as the one in this film) leaks under the sink badly when the tap is pulled forward, such as you do to fill the kettle. When the tap is pushed back flush with the back of the sink this does not happen. If the tap is pulled forward it leaks even if the tap is not turned on. This has developed suddenly - the last month or so - and the tap has been in place over four years without prior problems. Bit anxious about flooding the flat below. Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi AL , can you Help, turning on the bath taps in the bathroom the tap in the kitchen starts to run and make a loud buzzing noise though it is turned off. this started 2 weeks ago , it seems to be the hot side of the mixer tap, if i turn the isolation valve to the cold it still buzzes away , if i turn the hot one off it stops buzzing and running , i have tried everything i know its got me beat ANY HELP AL ,take care ,stay well, Many Thanks Mick .
@dereton33

Try turning the main stopcock down to a slower flow rate. If no luck then, the kitchen taps will have to be renewed. The pressure jump from the bath taps is releasing the washer seal in the kitchen taps.

Hi again Al, thankyou , the kitchen and bathroom are 2 years old, the kitchen tap is discs, i took the tap apart yesterday , it looked fine inside nice and clean, put it back together and turned the stopcock right down, we also have pipebang, but its the loud buzzing that is doing our heads in, where in a bungalow with a combi boiler, the tap is one of those easyfit ones that flies off and needs maintaining every year, where hoping to get the tap changed soon, so do you think it is still the tap although it is discs. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP AL, take care ,say well , cheers Mick.

One way to find out would be to cap the feed off to the tap and see what happens then.If it is pressure causing it, you can get a water hammer pressure vessel and fit it on the line to the tap.

I think those modern taps (especially the cheap 1s have to many weak spots . Plus ....to many seals .....built by committee. 😄

Too many swivelling, moveable parts and o rings and seals will eventually split or wear and will need replacing. That tap design in particular, leads to some need for maintenance at some point in time almost inevitable. More work for plumbers or competent DIY-ers, I suppose. "Everyone wants a cell 'phone that will make pancakes and rub their b*^*s for them" (George Carlin) The key to success is spotting it early because if the bolt, nut and horseshoe shaped clamp arrangement are not brass/stainless steel, rust will form and simply removing it from the sink can be a right pain in the derrière. "Caveat emptor"... Buyer beware. Whenever a customer supplies one of those, I fix a stare upon them and resolutely assert, somewhat like Arnie, "I'll be back!"
