The most important thing to know when doing ANY skill moves : *The Timing of your opponent's feet or knees* is crucial ONLY change YOUR direction when they lift one foot off the ground.. OR ..at the point when their knees cross/meet together (from your view) So when you have the ball.. the trick is to make your touch of the ball in sequence with their movement pattern Go watch your favourite dribbling plays from and watch defenders legs vs when the attacker shifts direction

I naturally have a lot of shot power and good shooting in practice but when I'm in a match I rarely get chances to actually shoot infront of the goal and score is this because of my mediocre dribbling and first touch? or me not being aware of chances?

First touch and technique Against good defenders you will only get a small margin to actually shoot at the goal properly before the defender completely closes that opening. To do this you gotta develop your first touch and shooting technique overall. Dribbling skills would also help you create the space and opening but you will still need a good and fast technique to launch the ball at the goal.
