Thank you for explaining everything. I am a new cattleya grower and have those new growths you mention. So what you are saying is that the new growth will become a pseudobulb and then a sheath will appear at the top of the new pseudobulb which is where the flower finally appears? I have a lot of new growths but I have never seen what happens next when the pseudobulbs mature because it is only now that I managed not to kill my cattleya.
Depends on the Cattleya, there are some breed and type of Cattleya that does not grow with a sheath for the flowers to grow, some will just grow flower buds at the center. There's Cattleya with 1 leaf while the other one has 2 leaves on it, most of the 2 leaf Cattleya does not grow Sheath. If your Cattleya does not grow flowers as of yet it might need more light and fertilzer will be a big help for the nutrients needed for Cattleya orchids to bloom.
