Come and learn about the paddock to plate journey of chicken meat with George the Farmer.
Did you know that:
• Chicks hatch in a place called a hatchery before they arrive at chicken farms?
• chickens descended from a bird known as a Red Jungle Fowl? The Red Jungle Fowl has bright orange, red and green feathers and was first used for farming in Asia over 5000 years ago.
• Chickens are fed pellets made up of ground grains, legumes and seeds.
• Farmers check on the chickens every day to make sure they’re growing strong and healthy.
• It takes approximately 7 weeks from the time chickens are hatched until they’re taken for processing.
• Chicken meat is a great source of protein and also has lots of healthy B vitamins and minerals.
