I don't understand how someone could give you a thumbs down 😕 maybe they're jealous. Speaking all those languages and your pretty too 😀 That's too much to handle for some. I think your talented, smart, gorgeous and beautiful ☺
Those are the jealous and selfish who do not want to see others' success. No encouragement from such - it's an index of who they are not who this young girl is.
My tip is to speak with your own self (when you are home alone fe) that's how I learned English (I'm Russian). When you speak even with yourself, you really get used to the language you learn like you start to think faster, notice your own mistakes, correct them and learn. If you are a bit ashamed to speak with yourself, speak with your cat or dog or Smth 😄
I always do this with english and I'm pretty fluent with 17.. I always felt kinda crazy while talking to myself but now that I saw your comment I think thats.. normal? 😂
Actually, I think you don't need to learn that much grammar. When little kids learn their mother tongue, they don't learn grammar, they just listen and notice patterns and reproduce them. Like most people, I think learning grammar is boring, so you should do it a little at the beginning, but you should not only do that. Only learning grammar at the beginning could discourage some people. I prefer to listen to a lot of stuff in my target language, and search for grammar explanation when I don't understand some rule. Most of the rules can be learned intuitively. The rest of the tips are great!
I agree with you, I didn't do tha either. Little kids obviusly observe and reproduce as I also said in the video, but the difference is they're surrounded by those languages patterns every day. But as an adult often times when you are learning a language you are not immediately fully immersed in that language. That's why I think it's good to get a little grammar base to understand and built upon language patterns that you will hear later. I actually never speny my whole time learning grammar when I studied a language, my method is more listening and reproducing as I also mentionned. +M Deroin
Adults cannot absorb language in the same way that kids do. But I agree that if you can go to a country and immerse yourself in that country and culture, even as an adult you would learn much more quickly.
I've been in Germany for a year + , really had to learn German fast because I was also in school. Was really difficult, but I would say don't worry, take it easy , you'll be surprised how your brain will take in this words and gradually you find yourself understanding and speaking German. For German grammar I'll say take it easy . Honestly it's also difficult for some of my Germans friends. Viel Erfolg Leute.
These are the best tips to learn any language. I learned basic English grammar in school (Spanish is my fist language), and you're right grammar is the foundation to learn any language. I learned a lot just by reading and listening to music, audiobooks are also very helpful to improve listening and therefore, speaking skills. Now I want to learn French, so I'm going to go ahead and get myself a French grammar book. 🤓
Completamente de acuerdo, me pasó lo mismo, diría que llegué a nivel básico en la escuela y a partir de ahí adquirí vocabulario de series, música, libros, etc. Mucha suerte con tu francés :)
you should create your own online course, I would love to have you as a teacher, you really seem to understand the foundations of learning a new language. You really are right about music, it's not only one of the most complete tools to learning new vocabulary but it's also a perfect combination of learning and playing at the same time, plus the phrases stay in your mind because you start singing the songs all the time.
Dionne Irwin It's going well. I am still learning the basics and struggle with the pronunciation of the words. But I'll get through it. Thanks for asking. 🙂
Jill Litwin, hello :-) Russian language is my native language, and I want to improve my English. So we can chat, and I hope to help you with your Russian learning. 😉👍
Some tips that i think are very good are fx reading children's books. They tend to be somewhat repetitive and in a simple language. Also, watching movies. If you are learning Spanish, watch a Spanish movie with Spanish subtitles, that way you'll get it through your eyes and ears :) And one thing i also did, was I watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in German, and I basically know it by heart in English, so that way, I already knew what they were saying. The same with books. I've read the first Harry Potter book multiple times, so I bought it in German, and instead of having a dictionary by my side, I just used the HP book in a language I am fluent in :)
She's THE BEST language teacher I've come across. REALLY! I've studied several languages over the decades and I can "confirm" she's SO RIGHT. BRAVO! :D
Usually I like to learn the alphabet first then learn the basics and from there grammar. Currently learning Japanese. I know quite a bit of Romanian, but am not fluent.
you should definitely check out the language learning app Mirai Japanese! :) They teach you in lessons starting with the most basic sentence structures, and just builds from there, also introducing new vocabularies in each lesson. Highly recommended!
Hoy por primera vez he visto tus videos, y me encantaron porque estoy aprendiendo Inglés y los tips que diste yo los aplico también!! Al igual que a vos las peliculas, series y canciones hicieron que aprendiera muchisimo! You're an inspiration =) Congrats from Argentina!!
Patricia Chloé Thank you for trying to learn portuguese 😍 I am portuguese and if you want to listen to a portuguese song you should listen to "Amar pelos dois" by Salvador Sobral. This is the song that won Eurovision 2017.I'm not recommending this song because we won the competition but because the song is beautiful and it really shows what Portugal is made of:love, simplicity, talent, passion and true raw emotions. ☺
Patricia Chloé You should probably focus on just one language Im not saying its impossible but it does make it harder and you could possibly mix words up
Iconic GamerNaz Lol! It's not that am learning Portuguese from scratch. First of all, I learn languages very easily, especially roman languages because I speak french already and I have a very strong vocabulary/knowledge in Latin as well, so I even though I have never learned Italian or Spanish, I can understand at least 50% of the conversation in both languages. I have been living in a Portuguese speaking household from time to time so I basically understand everything, it's just want to learn the grammar & how to talk so I can go and visit my motherland. Japanese is what I am actually really learning right now. I hope now everyone has a better understanding why I am learning these 2 languages at the same time.
J'adore tes conseilles!! Ils sont précis, intelligents et éclairé.... et je penses que tu as tout a fait raison quand à faire des erreurs pour apprendre. C'est exactement comme ça que notre cerveau fonctionne et avance, avec les erreurs... Bravo! merci pour cette video
Thank you so much... these tips are extremely helpful. I’m currently learning German and I do practice a lot of the tips you mentioned, except.... the speaking lol. When I’m in Germany I speak it a little more even though I’m sometimes shy to do so, but as soon as I’m back home I almost speak no word in German unless I’m forced to do so by my loved ones in Germany. I do watch movies & use self study books. I will take your tips seriously and try to listen to more music in German as well as speaking it everyday.
This video was so inspiring. I've been wanting to dust off my rusty Spanish lately. I was told that my Spanish was good so often when I was learning, that I basically stopped speaking out of fear of making a mistake. I'm gonna let go of the fear and make many mistakes. 😊
Hi, I'm Nisa...I am a native English speaker and have been learning Spanish...just recently started feeling comfortable speaking Spanish out loud with people. I can read and understand it pretty well though!
Watching movies in the language you're interested in --genius. I have a short attention span, but I've watched three videos yours already, back to back. Keep up the great work. You're amazing!
i recognized a lot of accents as you were speaking and i have to say the blend is awesome. your tips are really helpful. i am currently studying Spanish and i hope it goes well for me.
Would you be able to do playlists for the music in the languages? For example, a playlist of the spanish music that helped you in your learning process? That would be so helpful!
Hello. Do you want to Learn or improve your Spanish?. I can help you and each other can practice. My native language is Spanish and I speak English and I'm learning português
Hey! :)
My problem is learning.. I notice I can understand but I can't speak... when I hear someone talk I can understand most of what they say but can't remember any words when I want to speak... also love this video because I didn't know if I should buy this television channel that only shows shows in the language I want to learn. But after watching this I will definitely buy the app
thats me but with my country's mother tongue. whenever people speak it i know what they're saying but i can't reply in the language. the thing is, my mother said i spoke it fluently when i was really young but now i dont remember how. :/
aveatquevale yeah I wonder why we have this issue... it's like I can't form the sentence in my head or convert my English to the language but can convert the language to English... so weird ugh.. guess I'll keep trying. What's language can you speak?
camila,zoé,café tacuva, enanitos verdes, jesse y joy are pretty good but then you have rancheras by vicente fernandez (chente) or pedro infante, bachata music by prince royce, aventura, romeo santos, are what i can think from the top of my head. ..just check them out and see what you like they are all music n spanish but different styles.
Elliphant I'll suggest telenovelas. The Mexican ones try to have the actors speak clearly. Also the acting could be over-dramatic at times too which also help with understanding the dialogue. There's usually always a couple playing on your local Telemundo if you're in the US.
Elliphant I recommend you Los Mesoneros, Viniloversus, Caramelos de Cianuro, Soda Estéreo, Americania, La Vida Boheme and there are a lot more. You could watch Las Chicas del Cable, it's a TV show that recently came out!
Jane the virgin, Frida. Que culpa tiene el niño, no se aceptan devoluciones (those are movies and a tv show) and about music I really like listening to Morat, Jesse y Joy, Camila, caifanes, reik (you can find a lot of playlist with songs in Spanish on Spotify!)
God must have put this video in my feed for a reason because I've been trying to learn Spanish for 30 years and I fall short all the time. I just signed up for conversational Spanish lessons and I'm determined to achieve fluency. Thank you for the tip.
1-3 hours a day for anything is enough to learn, just be consistent and the results are sure to come. Also surrond yourself with ppl who want to learn or already know what you want to learn
Great tips!! I am learning French, and just a tip and you can do this with any language. When you watch any movie, especially Hollywood ones in English, you can download subtitles in whatever language you wish, just Google the ".SRT" file and then import it into your video player on your PC. For example you can get French subtitles playing whilst watching Avengers, and now for every English sentence uttered, you get the French equivalent written on screen!
My english teacher recomended to wach children's shows with subtitles since they usually use more basic words and they speak slowly....and so i did, and I learned!!. Also what you said....listening to music is key!!
* I apologize in advance for the long comment* I have been trying to just learn Spanish for a while and I can not stress enough how important the speaking bit is! I have spent thousands of dollars and many semesters of my time at university and still have not gotten to where I consider myself fluent. I recently started working at a Cuban restaurant and I have a coworker who is a bit more social than I am who has never taken a Spanish class. She has been working there for around the same amount of time as I have and her Spanish has advanced much much much faster than mine to the point that she is able to speak to and understand our Spanish speaking clients and coworkers a little better than I. So speaking is DEFINITELY an important aspect to improving your skills in your target language. I also have a few other tips I think might be useful! I majored in psychology at my university and have also been very interested in the psychology of multilingualism and learning a second or multiple language. I even wrote my senior seminar paper over this topic. From what I have learned through my research for that paper was that there are a few things to keep in mind when learning a new language. In addition to the advice she has given, consistency is also key to improving a language. Watching a movie occasionally or looking at a text book every so often will not help. It’s best to try and include the target language in your everyday life or as often as you can like maybe turning your social media into your target language or finding things online to read in Spanish. Another tip is when practicing your target language make it relatable to you and things that are important to you. For example talk or write about your favorite things, your family, or your significant other or things that make you emotional (whether it’s happy or Sad) because you can remember certain things better that are connected to some sort of strong emotion. You could also see if your favorite tv shows have the option to switch it to your target language. If your are interested in it then your will pay or attention to it and will most likely retain more! I have some other tips for various other factors in learning a language but this comment is too long as it is. Also I would like to say that these tips might not work out for everyone they are just what I realized helped me in my language journey.
Thanks. Interestingly, it was when I started reading your comment that I realized I had an eye problem. The write-up got blurred. May be your essay was a good test for my eye. I've since seen an eye specialist and now using lenses so I am fine now.😊 In my case, my company paid $3500 (100 hours) for me to be taught french in my office but after 40 hours, it was clear to me I needed to take my destiny into my own hands else the company will be disappointed. I've been making steady progress since. Self-motivation and practicing whatever you learn is indeed key. My next step will be to get permission from my wife and get a french girlfriend. lol
Thank you so much for this video! I'm brazilian and I'm trying to learn korean by myself (so hard omg). Boa sorte estudando português, você vai conseguir! 💙
I definitely recommend the watching movies thing - it helped me a lot with French - I think when you're starting out maybe try a movie you know well so you'll understand what's going on a bit more and that'll make you feel more comfortable and confident
This has totally inspired me to kick up my game with Spanish. I actually loved it at university, but when I stopped taking Spanish classes, I lost most of what I learned. Now I use Duolingo, which is good, but not stimulating in the right ways. So thank you :D
these tips seem like they'll help alot! I'm planning on teaching myself to speak French, maybe you could do a video about like basic grammar, or maybe even a series of learning french. Obviously you don't have to, just a thought I had. :)
Icanhavethemall just practice a lot, it's usually only like that in the beginning, once you get used to French, you won't really have that problem anymore
hey, I know this problem... Since I am a visual learner and always have to see how the word looks instead of hearing, I like to work with color. So for spanish for example, the text book was red and so this language for me is "red". I also try to have a red notebook or write vocabulary in red. Then, when I need spanish and other languages come to my mind, I try to think of red to trigger the right parts of my memory. Don't know if this makes sense to you? If you are more an auditory learner, you might combine each language with a different tone, so speaking higher or lower, or try listening to more males or females, and when you think of the french word, remember the greek tone and your brain will hopefully find the greek word for the french one^^ If you notice specific words that you mix up, learn them together/contrast them with each other. As we humans learn a lot from mistakes, try analyzing which mistakes/mix-ups you make and correct yourself to help your brain remember :)
Tusen takk, merci beaucoup, mil gracias, thanks so much. Tip #1 Listen to audio books whilie simultaneously reading along, then go back and read the text aloud to yourself
Wow, I am spanish and I have understood all this video, you pronnounce very well, I understand you better than a native like Adele, stand by this way because you are pretty amazing and talented
+RickboyH that's true sometimes but often there is more than one local language in some countries so a language like French or English is useful because you can communicate with anyone, no matter their local language.
+RickyboyH That wouldn't be as useful as the chances of you remaining in that area all the time is very slim. If you were to learn French in Senegal for example, it would be much more useful and is spoken in many other countries.
Great video! Admiro muito o teu interesse e amor por aprender línguas😄. I'm also very interested in languages. Although I only speak portuguese (my native language) and english, I am starting to learn mandarin. From one of your videos, I saw that you also speak chinese so I'd like to know if you suggest any grammar textbook for beginners. Obrigada por partilhares os teus conselhos, vão de certo ajudar-me bastante😉.
You really motivated me to improve my english! I was thinking about starting to make hair / makeup tutorial videos in english on my channel but I was so afraid to make mistakes 😕 Thank you so much for this video!
When watching telenovelas in the beginning, did it all run together? I watch them but can only make out bits and pieces and I wonder if I need to focus on one regions dialect or just try to learn to listen to everyone at once.
It's normal at the beginning, if you continue to watch it every week/day it will get better naturally . You can incorporate the language more into your everyday life, change your phone language for example
which language are you learning? I am currently using edX to learn italian, the videos have transcripts and translations, and you can speed up or slow down the videos, they also have podcasts. Not sure if there's also french, but I've seen they also have courses in portuguese
These are great tips! I've looked up a lot of RU-vid videos on how to learn languages and your tips are similar to what others have said. Learn the grammar, speak it whenever you can, listen to music, watch TV or films with subtitles, and another thing I've heard is to listen to podcasts. So last month I went on a trip to France and I absolutely fell in love with it! Two weeks ago I decided to start learning so I'm going to try learning it on my own. For French the podcasts "coffee break French" and "news in slow french" have been useful. Basically what I've found others say is the key to learning is to substitute the language you are trying to learn into things you would already do. If you listen to music on your commute, change it to French music. If you spend time watching TV at home, change your language to French with subtitles. If you like to watch RU-vid, start listening to French RU-vidrs. The only problem is I don't know who I can speak French with. Any tips on how to find others to speak with? And anyone here know of a good French grammar book? I also do 15 minutes a day of Duolingo
Luna Showalter if you like rap, you should listen to Nekfeu, he has a great vocabulary even if he's sometimes a little vulgar, if you listen to pop or something like that, listen to Vianney, his songs are pretty good
That's hard because many germans only listen to english/international music. But there are still many popular artists Idk if you like rap music but I recommend sierra kidd, raf camora, ufo361.. some other musicians of other genres are Rammstein, Mark Forster, Silbermond, Xavier Naidoo, Tim Bendzko, Nena.
A lot of popular films from hollywood are in german. Of course it's not as authentic as with the original english voices but it might help. Also Harry Potter might help because the german voice actors aren't too bad in my opinion x)
My 6 year old nephew LOVES language. He has gained family from everywhere! We live in California so he has tetes and uncles and nanas who speak Spanish, Tagalog, English, etc. He is starting first grade in a school with an English/Spanish dual immersion program. I am an ESL teacher for Chinese children and I am strongly considering enrolling him in a Mandarin online tutoring program as well. This is awesome! I believe he will grow up to be fluent in about 6 different languages.
Yes you've lost some of your Ghana accent . Good video . I'm familiar with several languages Russian , German and Spanish . I work with Mexican's all day . Sometimes it's difficult combining languages and understanding but they help me get their lingo .
I watch your videos to listening the english pronunciation and then I feel safe to pronounce by myself! Thank you, I love this kind of videos.. Greetings from Argentina! ♡
Music keepmy motivation up. The more I learn Spanish the more I understand reggaeton tunes which keeps me excited. Super video and thank you. I too know quite a few languages but Spanish is my current language
My offer extends to you as well Clarke :) and it wasn't half bad, I understood what you meant. If I may, it's on the verbs you've gotten it a bit off, the right sentence would be "Si necesitas alguien que te enseñe inglés, puedo ayudarte si me ayudas con mi español"
Eres estupenda!!! Me gusta como te enfocas en hacerle entender a la gente que pueden aprender fácilmente cualquier idioma. Gracias por eso. RU-vid necesita mas gente como tu!!!
At 11:20 into the video, you said that people need to speak and learn from mistakes. This is what I tell my students. Like you said, watching (DVD) movies with subtitles will help along with learning the grammar. I hadn't thought of listening music. Thank you for your encouraging and informative videos.
I'm currently learning polish because my boyfriend is from there and I'm so motivated to be fluent but it's supposed to be one of the hardest languages! anyone recommend any good polish tv shows or singers?
Julia dziękuję bardzo dziewczyna! Tak, i already knew a lot of vocabulary because I have do nich motivation to learn but only recently I've just made a Netflix account so I can watch cartoons with polish dub it's been amazing! watching currently watching magiczny autobus And Świnka pęppa hahaha its realny helping though! dziękuję za the artists i will listen to Them:D skąd jesteś z Polska kochana?
well sorry, but Never learn Grammar. Its easy to say to other to learn grammar so as to boost about yourself but no , not in hell you are going to learn grammar. I am fluent at 3 language, but none in which I have learned grammar from books, it just came to me naturally.
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm French, I learn Japanese and Russian, tes conseils et ton parcours me motivent encore plus! I'm now certain I am able to learn these languages, even if they can be difficult.
Glad to hear someone emphasizing grammar and book learning. It's like every expert out there thinks it's beneath them to mention it. A lot of us would love to learn several languages but unless we use it, just not worth the time and effort. Fortunately, the internet offers new opportunities.
I am so stunned by your capability😃😄. I am currently learning Ukrainian language and I keep telling my self it's supper hard. after watching a few videos of you now I am positive and so encouraged to learn...thanks 👌👌👍👍
Nice tips. *I lost all of my French books from school over the years so I got a booklet of tapes to revive my 4 yrs of study. *(Short story of my 3rd language and most fluent)I started learning ASL (American sign language 35 yrs ago to help teach my goddaughter who had lost her hearing(she was 2yrs old then),the next year finding out I had a problem with my hearing. My mom didn't keep up with my medical needs,so it was temporarily forgotten. As the years went by,there were complaints from friends and family, even my own children that I was not responding to their calls and ringing phones, talking too loud or too soft etc(medical coverage was an issue). More years past and after it was brought to my attention that I was not hearing my baby when not in the room with him,I got to the specialist for testing asap finding out I lost a lot of hearing, got hearing aids, then my son and I attended ASL classes together while I was in college. I took him just so we could communicate more by him learning,I also taught some sign language to my older children, later my first grandchild before he could talk, now I'm teaching the other 5. I use captions, subtitles, and do some lip reading, and using some high volume,or headphones(that don't always work),or an amplifier to pickup the voice of the person talking and send it to my eardrum (not always clear, because most of my problem with hearing is my clarity=words and letters sounding the same).smh *I learned one year of Spanish in high school,it's only used when I encounter someone who needs some assistance and no one around, but first letting them know,I speak very little Spanish(mostly because I get nervous).lol I have a Spanish/English dictionary and watch some Spanish movies, sing some songs in Spanish as well. *I'm learning Twi for about 6 years and need to practice more,my hubby is from Ghana and I have an app. *I was learning Japanese for about 2-3 months until the program was cancelled. Sorry for being long-winded. Anyways, thanks for sharing.
I love your videos! To this day I have learned and currently speak: Spanish (first/native language), English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Norwegian, and a little bit of Arabic. Culture and languages are amazing and beautiful all around the world! :)
