Neuminis that is called vowel epenthesis, the adding of the schwa sound between tow consonant sounds to ease articulation. In English, we here both athlete and athalete, although the latter is considered incorrect, many pronounce it that way. This phenomenon exists in all languages, especially among children.

For us, Spanish speakers of the Andes in South America, the sibilant R is our regional variation of RR, initial R and R after B, D, T. And the sibilant R is like Czech r with î. So Czech tri (3) sounds similar to our tres (3) or in compounds of 3: Like triángulo (triangle), triciclo (tricycle), triple (triple), trípode (tripod), etc.

Ahoj! Thanks for the explanation about how to use the cases with the numbers, it was very clear. I would like to know if does a reason exist for counting 1-jedna (femenine) and 2-dva (masculine) ? I mean, instead to use the form for masculine nouns (jeden,dva) only or the form for femenine nouns (jedna,dvě) only. Děkuji!!!
@Czechclass101
@Czechclass101 9 лет назад
Hello Gwen, Thank you for your question. In fact, ''dva'' (the masculine form of counting) is just a choice. It can be easily swapped for ''dvě" (the feminine form of counting number two) and it makes no difference in the basic counting, unless you start adding nouns. Nouns in the Czech language have genders prescribed to them, so they need to correspond to the correct counters according to masculine, feminine, or neutral gender. I hope this helps to explain how it works a bit ;) Sincerely Hanka Team CzechClass101.com

TheBigdav3 Hello BigDav3, Thank you for writing. The Czech ''r'' with a mark above is indeed a trouble some for many foreigners. Some people can master it better than others. By the way could you please explain more about the gender thing? It is very hard for me to understand. Thank you :)
@Czechclass101
@Czechclass101 8 лет назад
+Ally Eve Hello Ally Eve, Thank you for your question. The genders are not difficult. It's not the numbers having genders. It's NOUNS having genders, just like in German language. Nouns are masculine, feminine and neutral. Numbers or adjectives always adjust to the gender of each noun. This is why Veronika was pointing out in this video that for masculine nouns, the counting of jeden and dva is different to the feminine counting nouns jedna and dvě. Masculine nouns: Singular Jeden pes "one dog" Jeden dům "one house" Jeden muž "one man" Plural: Dva psi "two dogs" Dva domy "two houses" Dva muži "two men" In plural, nouns change their form a little bit. But explaining that would require a long lesson to teach which I cannot do here. So I will not go into details on this one. To be able to recognise genders, one has to learn the nouns with genders and remember them. They are specified in all dictionaries. There are some hints by which one can recognise most nouns by their endings, but again that would be a whole lesson to teach on vowels and consonants. We do have these lessons at www.CzechClass.101.com Feminine nouns: Singular Jedna žena "one woman" Jedna bota "one shoe" Jedna kočka "one cat" Plural Dvě ženy "two women" Dvě boty "two shoes" Dvě kočky "two cats" Most (not all) feminine nouns end with letter 'a', that is the main hint how to recognise feminine gender. In plural they end with ,- y. Neutral gender: Singular Jedno auto "one car" Jedno kolo "one bicycle" Jedno město "one town" Plural Dvě auta "two cars" Dvě kola "two bicycless" Dve města "two towns" Most neutral gender nouns end with,- o in singular and with - a in plural. I hope this help to some extent, and sorry it cannot be longer since we can't be doing whole grammar lessons here. You can find more lessons and grammar at www.CzechClass101.com. Sincerely Hanka

@pineapplehead7772

These languages aren't too different from each other. Czech Republic & Slovakia were once just one country so it's really really similar. Probably something like Spanish and Portuguese. :)
@pineapplehead7772
@pineapplehead7772 9 лет назад
Probably like 80 % of the whole czech vocabulary is the same like the slovak one, but it's just written differently. For the example : CZ - někdy, SK - niekedy (it means "sometimes"). You read it almost the same, but in Slovak you change the "ně" into "nie. It's also very similar to Polish. Oh and the Czech language has the letter "ř" which the Slovak language doesn't have. Hope that helps a bit :D
@Czechclass101
@Czechclass101 9 лет назад
Hello Mehdi, there is difference in vocabulary and some letters that Czechs use whilst Slovaks don't have them in their alphabet. Also stress on some words is different. It's possible to understand each other when speaking, but both speakers might come across words they do not know their meaning. Sometimes the meaning can be guessed from the context, sometimes they need to ask what it is. Sincerely Hanka team CzechClass101.com

30 MINUTES, stuck on 3's & 4's pronunciation, you could write the pronunciation in your presentation like the word "Deterioration = duh·teeuh·ree·uh·ray·shn", that would literally reduce the the time from 30 Minutes to 3 seconds. Don't worry, I am a critic here but its in your favor. I'm talking to a czech girl these days. Help me, I have not much time to get in, just wanna impress her and make her feel attracted to me, since I have no quality, j wanna do whatever I can.
