This story was made into a movie in the mid 60s starring Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple. It took place at an inn or resort for people to go horseback riding. It was called “Murder At The Gallop”. It was close to this story.
Too convoluted but captivating. Like some people who never just take the simplest route, who say too much when less would do, and so on. But what plots would we have without these convolutions. Christie is fascinating to me for her psychological insights into the range of human personalities, a short spectrum actually. She must have been a watching and a listening child not easily fooled with sweets and whatnots.Christie knew that human beings aren’t at all as unique as we like to think. We’re all captured on her page, Poirot being the only difference. What a hat trick! Put a murder mystery at the center of any story about commonplace things. A third man in a way but really nonexistent the flawless investigator with the impeccable grey cells, an anomaly like the watching and listening child - a complete fiction but Christie’s mirror image. As for the the rest of us all right there on the pages of Christie. Exposed. “ It takes all sorts.”
