Podcast's words today weren't very common. I undertook a regime: every morning I listen to two Anna's podcasts to blow up my vocabulary. I have to own up that last weekend I didn't listen to any as I was on a boat trip with some friend. I enjoyed the view from the sea of the colossal Maltese castle, one of the best hotspot of Malta (not true 😅). Speaking of ideas for your content, dear Anna, off topic, I know, but ... Why do you say that a shop is closed and not that is opened, but open? Thank you❤

Hello Anna, I checked 'go off' in the dictionary, it means stop working. So when you said 'sound effects going off around', what does this mean? Thanks

Go off has multiple meanings. Go off in the context of alarms or sounds means to trigger or to sound. Our alarm goes off at 6am to wake us all up.

Does "own up" have the same meaning as "to stand corrected"?
@englishlikeanativepodcast
@englishlikeanativepodcast 3 месяца назад
No, to own up is something you do yourself - you decide to admit fault and accept blame. To stand corrected is to accept that you were wrong in the face of a corrections being presented to you from an external source. Does that make sense?

See Atalanta beyond the battlements Forged from another steel than women of common Abusive centaurs, Calydon's boar slaying In her perizoma, with Peleus wrestling Have you seen Freyja, lover of carnage, Urging a people of fierce orcs and forge-elves Cheek and eye on fire, playing her personage, Assaulting, sword in fist, some kingly fortress Imagine Diana in her gallant stride, Wandering the forests or beating the coppice, Hair and throat in billows, raging with excitement, Gorgeous and defying the best of the horsemen! Like a wild Valkyrie! But the fierce Warriress Is as charitable as she is murderous; Her bravery, frantic with steel, blade and drums, Knows, 'fore supplicants, how to lay down weapons And her heart ravaged by flames always has For whom is worthy, a tears reservoir. f. 😘🌹❤ Thank you Anna! 🙏👏
