Thank you Mike, I've learned or rather said "discovered" a new word that I think most of us often pronounced it wrongly - “Genre” ... I totally wasn't aware it is pronounce with the J tone, instead just "Gen - Re" ... Thanks again. 👍🏻
Comes from french. Maybe coming from another roots. French has ever more weird word but curiously after speaking french for so many years its second nature now.
genre’s origins are French & English, it’s a mix of French + English, just like entrepreneur, it is pronounced as “ontrepreneur”. So in my point of view, it doesn’t violate any rules.
Eason is actually saying "Ve-get-table" on purpose. It's like a common joke in Hong Kong. Reminds me back in school days, how We tried to pronounce this word to memorize the spelling of it.
I believe the word genre came from French. English has been borrowing words from French since centuries ago. If you know the letter G in French is pronounced the way it does in garage, genre, etc. English also borrows words from many other languages, that's why it has such a large vocabulary and many groups of words with similar meanings. Among these borrowed words, many of them became English-like in spelling and sound, but others still preserve their original spelling and sound...Sorry for this long comment. I'm really interested in vocabulary and different languages. :)
FYI:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_words_of_French_origin. I'm not sure if this is one of the reasons why many Frenchmen are very proud of French over English
Don’t know chengyixun much ,but its lovely to hear his English accent, learn from this lesson the word “cynical “ I m afraid of that i might be one. Btw, Mike teacher, I found you always looks so serious not smile much in the most videos, it’s that Chinese culture families influences to not showing emotion much
you can just about detect the foreignness in his accent, it's very very small, but not unnoticeable. this other guy was also not brought up speaking English Nadhim Zahawi, but he sounds indistinguishable from an Englishman. I have seen it all too many times, when someone tries to speak British English with a posh accent, they mostly ended up speaking with a slightly effeminate tone. That's how I tell if they are native or not.
You know, when you narrate a product features in British accent , suddenly that product becomes a premium quality product. At least it is portrayed as premium quality....
