Good job explaining functions. Much clearer now. I am 71 years young going back to relearn high school algebra and enjoying it immensely. Hated it in school.
Absolutely, traditional education system has so many flaws, one of them is having to attend a prolonged lecture which extends a 10 minute topic to 30 minutes +.
Thank you. I am 82 years old and learning Algebra - again - to help the sons of my friend. I couldn't do it without you and the other RU-vid teachers because the school books are hopeless. Your clearly explained lessons are very much appreciated.
I will probably have to watch this 20 more times to get it, but I learned more in these 9 minutes regarding functions than I have in all the classes I have ever taken. Thank you.
I think once you understand the use of functions or the way they are used it just makes everything so much easier to understand, some teachers just go into this topic and just give you questions without understanding what functions help with or what they do exactly making the topic just very vague or forgetful that you will need to remember all over again. So I found this video very useful!
Yeah, it’s like an English-speaking Korean who speaks both languages and expects you to understand the language without context clues solely because they know Korean and expect you to know because they gave you a translation dictionary. Math has to relate otherwise we’re just memorizing hoards of language for the sake of a degree but probably won’t use it again. In essence, it’s useless to some degree for those who don’t directly use it in some practice or trade. The uses derived from it are helpful but no one’s really applying it if it’s simply memorizing long strings of information. You might as well be learning how to code.
I’m taking algebra 2. I wasn’t introduced to functions until Geometry, my teacher ran by it, so now I have to teach myself in algebra 2. I was so worried about falling behind. You made it click in my head. Thank you so much mr.
@@ngcool4112 Thats great. I am just comparing my notes from the private math lessons with Aristoteles & Sokrates against the video and must say that this guy is way ahead.
I am 61 years old, relearning math. This is the first time that things make sense to me. Back then, we were never given a context, a global overview, or practical use to what we were learning. So I just parroted the fragments of math I had learned in class, just to pass my exams. I didn't like math at all, because I felt lost in maze of details without any context, purpose, or awareness of practical application to this information. Thank you so much for making math, fun, easy, and worth learning. God bless you and your work.
I swear random ppl on the internet make so much more sense than my freaking algebra teacher. Idk any more, but I feel so much more prepared and ready for my test and I definitely will look at more of your videos because they seem to be magical and make everything click in my brain.
I signed up to become a member of your Tablet Class Math it was well worth the minimal fee. Having access 24/7 and you elaborate on all the concepts with worksheets that can be printed for future reference. Thanks
Thanks so much for this awesome channel! My son is a freshman and doesn’t understand Algebra whatsoever. Neither do I lol. Now we’re going to learn together. I appreciate ya!!
This was so much more informative than my required readings, I’m taking college algebra and I’m so lost and just trying to keep up each week. Thank you for this video!
I was stressing out so much for my upcoming math exam but your videos have been a great help and I’m able to understand the math better. I’m no longer stumbling through my algabra class thank you so much!
I am starting algebra 1 in 8th grade this year and I have been really stressed out about it and this video helped me a ton on what functions are, thank you so much
@@greetings434 think about an airplane going to an airport, it can’t make two final destinations so 3:4 and 3:5 wouldn’t be a function but 3:4 would be a function so 3 just can’t have 2 outcomes
Thank you so much!! I’m a sophomore in college, working on my degree in business management and I was so lost in my survey of calculus class. Thank you for your videos.
I have reached a point in my school life where I need to learn function and the teacher doesn't explain it very well, they have 50 minute to teach me this and they are not even doing good at teaching it, I have to go out of my way to research this stuff myself in another language (I'm Thailand) this video gave me a lot of knowledge just from 9 minutes thank you ( about 3 years later )
thank you so much for this. my favorite part was how i was able to understand this in less than 10 minutes instead of having to study it for five months. also love how i didn't cry from lack of understanding. i hope you have an incredible day!!
You should have been my maths tutor! You made it sound so simple and now I realise that it was that simple. I believe some maths teachers complicate for the students when they could have kept it simple! Thanks buddy 😊
How is it maths is so easy for some people to understand and incredibly difficult for others? ( like me ) I'm so envious of those who love it and find it easy.
Look Julee Rowley, MATH started 500 years ago. there were many developments that have been made. To answer your question, this is the answer. In math = 1 +1 = 2 , In algebra 1x + 1x = 2x now, admit it , your math foundation is weak because it is in your mind. WHY WEAK? IT IS WEAK BECAUSE , IT COULD BE YOUR TEACHER METHOD OF TEACHING OR YOU YOUR SELF. STYLE OF LEARNIBNG . To be good in math YOU NEED TO CARRY ON ALL THE FUNDAMENTALS / FOUNDATION LEARNINGS IN THE PAST. IT REQUIRES A SERIES OF UNDERSTANDING FROM BASIC RULES TO HIGHER MATH RULES. FOR OVER 500 YEARS THERE WERE MANY STRUCTURES OF MATHEMATICS. EACH STRUCTURE HAS DIFFERENT RULES TO FOLLOW. AND THOSE DIFFERENT RULES WILL SURELY CONFUSED YOU. IN ORDER NOT TO CONFUSE, YOU NEED TO REMEMBER OR MEMORIZE THOSE RULES WITH SPECIFIC APPLICATION. DONT GET ME WRONG I JUST WANT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION
People are good at different things! You may be great at something a person good at math may not be good at. We all lack and exceed at certain activities. Though it sucks we all have to be good at one thing to pass school, Don’t worry, you’ll get through it ^^
There are a lot of reasons that people may seem to have an easier time understanding math a lot better than others. Could come from the approach they take or just the fact they tend to do a lot more math than other people resulting in a brain that slowly becomes much more adjusted towards the subject and the type of thinking necessary for it. It's really as simple as that. If you want to to have an easier time with math, then you need to do it more often but with a few extra things to take into account. The brain works just like any other muscle in your body. When you workout, if you aren't pushing your body and having a hard time then you aren't really getting a proper workout. Same goes for your brain. Focus on the areas you are struggling in. Try to properly understand some of the concepts instead of relying on memorization to carry you. Most importantly though, don't give up just because you think math isn't for you or you just aren't meant to be good at it. Everyone struggles with math in some way or another and I don't think there is one person who can truly say they find math as a whole easy without lying.
I think the people that understand it more are able to apply what they've learned to questions without asking "why?" They're able to understand the math at face value and don't need to understand the meaning behind what it does fundamentally.
Thank you, I'm about to take college algebra... I'm worried about failing so I decided to look up some videos to ensure that doesn't happen. This was very helpful.
I'm not going to lie, but you're amazing... 😊 Honestly, I didn't understand this topic before, but now I do... You explained it far better than my teachers😁, I'll be writing my math exam in 2 days, and I basically do not understand most of the topics... I'm grateful for what your doin sir🥰 your a big help, and I'll be looking through all your videos... to understand everything... 😊 I'm lucky I stumbled upon this video😅 I was really struggling😅
Thank you! I am going into 8th grade and taking algebra 2, I am a little paranoid since I’m scared I will forget everything. There seems to be a lot of different branches/ways to learn it when it comes to algebra. But I wrote it all on notes and it makes a lot of sense so far! I will be watching more vids, Thank you againn
I'm taking a math placement assessment, as I have gone back to college in my 30's. Its been a long time since I've been in school, so I appreciate the video!
This was edifying. I am a bit delayed on finishing GED MATHS and this topic was unclear for me, but thanks to your good explanation, its become not just understandable but fun.
Great video! During my teen years I've always had a hard time trying to understand what functions are and what purpose they serve up until I became a software engineer. Now I'm using functions for basically everything in my line of work...
I love how you explained it, honestly want a full vid of you taking your time to expand on it more❤ thank you for this, I'm senior high soon, wanted to get a head start
I'm studying for my 2nd Bachelors degree (and Double Majoring) in Special Education (Mild to Moderate) and Elementary Education....and suck at math. I'm currently in Math for Elementary Educators 2 (out of 3). This really helps. Thank you.
blud explain in a 7 mins in a very understandable and clear way of my whole lesson on math for the first sem. blud explained it straight while my teacher explains it zigzag way💀
@@taehyungshands ohh so it’s basically saying that all functions fall into relations but not all relations fall into (or only limited to) functions, bc functions is a subset of relations meaning there’s more to it
Oh thank the lord I found you!!! I watched so many videos on this topic and I was starting to fall into despair because I wasn’t able to comprehend. I am truly great full! Thank you.
so...what is a function lol? Is it just another way to write y? Or is it something else? Like saying the function of 2 is 13 means what? Or is it (similie) like a machine where you put in an x values and get y values out? I don't understand why ppl would make an another word(function) to write out y
OMG THAT IS SOOOO MY QUESTION MAN! I too don't get why people have to make things so frigging complicated when at the end of the day, they both mean the same thing. If f(x) is the same as y, then just use or write y. Like bruh
Currently reviewing for pre calc as I felt unprepared for the first few days and I am on my journey to develop a better understanding to become more successful in the class.
Thanks to you I understood the function problem in just this little time of watching this video. I never been one to be efficient in math. I still have more learning to do. This video helped me to understand how to find the function of the x value and get the answer to y thank you.
It’s not 2 from x. Think of it as what is the value of y or f(x) when x = 2. Then you plug in the 2 anywhere there is an x and solve for y. You can put any number in the x to solve for the y.
Easy ways to understand is, if you have function put in to table x and y and then graph them and reverse. you’ll get all kinds of beautiful lines. I love to play functions on desmos or geogebra to draw among us etc unfortunately we don’t learn these fun things in school 😭
Oh god videos like these make me realise how much i love math or anything in the stream of science for that matter. Its only after i couldnt do anything in the JEE exam that i realised how i was only afraid of the rat race and didnt really care much about learning the subject. Idk how I'll be ending up in life but i shall always continue learning things like these despite my work.
