Thanks Charlie, I'm greatly encouraged. Every year when I had a new group of students in the classroom, one of the things I made a point of saying was "take a look at a technical manager or a chief engineer," apart from the giftings and personal qualities it takes for such a leadership role, that person could always, given the resources and the inclination, he could always produce the companies products in his garage at home if he wanted to. It was a little spiel intended to give the student a standard by which to judge his education.

I have been on and off Fusion 360 for at least 5 months... finally you have done it! An easy to understand and follow updated version that matches the version I downloaded last summer. I already feel motivated to finish this after just the first lesson where I think I already learned more in a half an hour than I did in the last 10 hours I've been trying. Thanks.

Wow! Awesome first tutorial. I may finally learn a CAD program thanks to these lessons. It’s refreshing to find someone who puts in the time to teach rather than trying to show off how much they know. And my guess is Mr. Rowntree could run circles around most of them. Hello Arnold. I'm a scientist in a different field but always find myself needing and wanting to draw some parts and assemblies. I've tried watching a few other tutorials and they were moderately helpful. I'll admit that I was not optimistic at the start of your video but once I got past the "Let's Get Started" flash that everyone seems to want to include you had gold. I learned more from you in 15 mins than from an hour in other videos. Initially my OCDish brain had trouble getting around why you didn't start at the origin but at the end your choice to not do that was brilliant. Other videos take the initial learning to the setup and origins etc. Ultimately that is not what is important though. By starting at an arbitrary location you focused on what is really important which is the relationships and constraints of the various features to one another. By starting at the origin all of the training from others seems to focus on where is a feature relative to the origin. In your video you focus on positioning elements relative to the other elements that make them useful. Thank you. In 19 years of youtube videos I think you now have my second "liked" video.

Haha, thank you so much roptics, I’m chuffed. All that stuff about orientation and location are simple to adjust and change in Fusion but it’s just fluff when you’re trying to get started. It’s always a pleasure to meet a scientist and I hope you won’t take offense when you hear me criticise higher education. That’s where science is done these days and I value science which is what engineering is founded on. Please ask questions when you get stuck; getting stuck is inevitable with new software.

I've been struggling with getting into Fusion for some time with tutorials that claim to be basic but were actually really badly presented with too much jargon. For someone who is completely new to CAD and had absolutely no experience in any design, sketching or image editing capacity at all, following your videos has enabled me to go from zero knowledge to producing a millimeter perfect spare part that I needed in just over an hour. This is fantastic! I've recently purchased a 3d printer, so now I need a way to create drawings ... and, you've convinced me that Fusion 360 is the way to go. I've played with a few other CAD programs but they just don't float my boat 🙂. Also, I've tried some other tutorials (on RU-vid and elsewhere) for these other programs and I didn't find them particularly clear. Your presentation is GREAT! You obviously know how education works. In fact, I teach university physics, have done so for years, so I have a little idea what works and what doesn't pedagogically. It's obvious that you really get how to discuss and display content for students. Keep up the good work! I'm hoping to get through most of this series before MY classes begin in a few weeks ... when things will get really busy.

Thanks Arnold for this lesson. I'm 70 and all of those things at the beginning, 😁 budding engineer, tinkerer, inventor, hobbyist, time waster, creater, I don't have idle hands, and slow, not really, I just pretend nd to be, maybe slow in this computer uptake stuff . Anyway, after having a 2nd crack I have this 1st lesson nailed, I'll PLAY SOME more then move to second lesson, big athnks and really appreciate your work, Regards

The presentation of these tutorials is straight from the top drawer. I use RU-vid a lot to learn "how to" various things; from DIY to games and now to 3D Print and the designs that I need to accomplish what I want. These tutorials are by far and away the best that I have ever seen on any subject. They should be studied by any RU-vidr trying to get their point across. Many thanks for your time, investment and genuine nature.

I'm 70 and retired. My career began with bass board and t-square through DesignCAD 2D for DOS. The company I retired from used several packages for machining but mostly Solidworks for design and documentation however as a project manager the engineering department was not an activity I needed to participate in. Always thought someday maybe I would become motivated to learn 3D CAD. So now we try again.

Thank you, I love that you shared your knowledge with us. I tried 3D max quite a few years ago but had a hard time getting the hang of it due to lack of RU-vid content. Since I am dyslexic I have trouble with manuals and written courses, RU-vid is a blessing for me. I am now working on 3d printing as a hobby and want to design things myself, I noticed that fusion 360 was used a lot for that. and that's how I ended up here. Again, thank you for your contributions.

You're very welcome! RU-vid now has the second biggest search engine on the internet and I rarely draw a blank when I'm searching for unusual things. It was only a few years ago that I found the gaps more often. Yes, Fusion and 3D printing do go together very well, I recently got my first 3D printer myself.

¡Buenos días Arnold! As an avid railway modeller, I bought a 3D printer about a year ago but, have been struggling with various CAD-based platforms to design and build necessary parts for my hobby. I happened across your channel yesterday and, in the first few minutes of this video, learnt more about Fushion 360 based purely on your communication skills. You assume, quite rightly, interested viewers need to be guided though new, basic skills. I find your choice of descriptive and 'plain speak' narration perfect. You refer to the tools of Fusion 360 and, then show where they originate and how exactly to exactly they are used. I have found so many other sights simply performing actions and, I haven't a clue as to how they achieved said action. I will definitely be joining the FaceBook forum and look forward to navigating my way through the backwaters of Fushion 360 with you. Un saludo. Gary

You're a really great instructor. I had 3 years of drafting in high school in the early 80's. I remember many a red mark for sloppy lines crossing, dimensions off, and smudging the paper with graphite. Hi Arnold. Great to see that you are updating the Tutorials for the ‘new’ UI. I did all 16 of your original series, and this one is just as good 👍 I’m what is termed a ‘senior’, so I tend to learn by read-try-read again method, and progressive video Tutorials allow me to do that. Best introduction lecture by far. This is the 6th RU-vid Introduction to Fusion 360 video I have screened. I knew there would be someone out there who would present the software better than the rest. Other than a few pauses. I got through the lecture at your pace. I am sure that already being familiar with the basic interface helped. Many of the older tutorials are for prior versions and the interface has changed substantially making them almost useless. Thanks again..
