Grandpa Gilbert was my grandpa from my dad's side of the family. He left Germany before the second world war, and fought on the American side. He told me that the German people had made a mistake at that time, but that we should still be proud of our family history, because it is part of who we are. He started teaching me German when I was a kid, but died. Dad never wanted to converse in German, so I fell out of practice. I'm trying to learn again and go to Hoffenheim, where my family is from.

I'm very grateful that you're making these videos. You're picking off where grandpa Gilbert left off, and I'm sure he would thank you, too. Danke.

Your videos are always very helpful. If you saw a woman in trouble, how would you say to a group of bystanders, "Help her!" Would it be Helft ihr? Vielen Dank!

"im" is actually the short form of "in dem". for example: im Garten, im Haus, im Auto, im Schrank. you could also say "in dem Garten, in dem Haus" etc. but it's more comfortable to say the short form and it also sounds better. it only works for masculin or neuter words, maybe that helps a little bit :) (you can't say "im Badewanne", it's "in der Badewanne" --> see? just like "in dem Garten" except that you can't shorten it) I hope I could help you :) greetings from Germany.

Servus Ich lerne Deutsch mit dir und brauche deine Hilfe. I am trying to understand the adverbs in German. I made some inferences about that. I would be grateful if you could look them if they are true. if we want to emphasise the adverb, we place at the beginning of a sentence. For example, 'Am Samstag spiele ich Fußball.' Aber in normal word order after the conjugated verb. It's like ' Ich spiele am Samstag Fußball.' And their meaning is the same; the difference is emphasise. Herzliche Grüße!

Thanks for the cool vids! I'm in love with your accent :-) I'm supposed to go to Vienna for an Erasmus, but I'm kind of scared by their way of speaking...do you think it's very hard to understand?

What did you mean @ 5:10 "if unstressed" I can't find any videos explaining stressed and unstressed in German syntax. Does the word order determine if it is stressed or unstressed? I'm still not too sure where you should place the adverb in a sentence.
