If there's umlaut ( i.e. Two dots mark) above any vowel then the quality of vowel get changed (pronunciation get changed). And the particular vowel can be simply pronounced as "English vowel" despite of German. Here the word "kuhe" can be pronounced as like English pronunciation and even after it if the word sounds different then you have to add "y" or "e" in place of umlaut with the word (then it'll be ku'y'he) for an exact pronunciation. The sound for 'U' with an umlaut (sorry my keyboard don't support umlaut above the vowels so I'm writing like this) will be pronounced like "u+e" or "u+y" and for "O" with umalaut will be like "o+e" and will be same for other vowels with umlaut. Just there will be an addition of "y" or "e" with the english vowels and it'll sound like an vowel in German with umalaut. I hope you get it now :)

Sorry i wrote the question wrong, Shouldn't it by Das Katze? Why is it Die? I thought that was for plural only

@@brookewhyte4598 not necessarily because das Mädchen = girl. They have nothing to do with biology. Der = Masculine article, Die is Feminine article and Das is the Neuter (Neutral) article.

There are 3 articles in german Der(masculine), Die(feminine or plural) and Das(neutral).
