I wouldnt recommend learning German with poems because most vocabulary is very old and the grammar is different than nowadays or false from the beginning. I think learning poems of a foreign language in general should only be done after you learned at least the basics of the language.

As a German, the English translation is almost its own separate poem. I've never read it in English but the translation was shockingly different. I wouldn't call it inaccurate but it's not the same at all

@@ListentoGermanwithAnna Thanks. You have a beautiful, clear voice and I can make out every word easily. Another tip that might be useful - you're using an English version of the poem as your translation, but I would actually find a direct translation of the German words to be more useful. When a poem is translated into poetry, words get moved between lines, and sometimes a whole phrase has to have major changes in the words, in order to make it rhyme and scan. So it is no longer an exact translation of the original line. I want to understand the German and feel the meaning when I listen to your voice. A German friend of mine got me interested in German poetry - I find it the most interesting and beautiful way of learning your language. Thank you for these videos.
