My first thought was "This guy sure wastes a lot of acid!" But then, I realize you're teaching how to test. So the larger the field, the more dramatic the demonstration. Well done.
Yes, it's reasonable to agree that investing in gold is not so simple. Unless you follow a resource like GoldStratz (google it), it's imposible to fail.
I have three 10k gold filled vintage woman’s watches. Elgin , Bulova, Gruen how much do you think I should receive ....they don’t work ? Will pawn guy buy as watches or just scrap it for gold content Either way ..I’ve never did this before so thank you for any suggestion
You did a nice job on this video, one of the more clear demonstrations I've seen! Total thumbs up on this! By the way - I love your "edible arrangement" next to you! :)
what do the #'s behind the K mean? are these usually stamped along with the K weight or grade? i am new to this research, am considering buying jewelry for income
How would gold filled jewelry not past the acid test, if you scratch it off you will be scratching the gold off, thus allowing it to pass the test? Right or wrong

What do you think about buying this kind of gold, as a long term investment. There's talk about some trouble coming & gold may become a valuable commodity.
The plating will be thin and you will rub right through the plating in the stone. Caution a really good goldfilled can pass this scratch test. I always keep a small file handy to cut deep into the metal and apply the 14k acid to the cut and see what happens, typically goldfilled (gf) will turn green in the cut.
You sure used a lot of acid and space on your stone. One line of acid is plenty. You could do a line of each acid on each of those samples and test several pieces in one shot.
What do you pay for 28K gold? Spot is about 1080 today. Internet shows wholesalers paying 591 a troy ounce for 28k scrap gold. So is about 55 percent of spot gold what you would pay to buy 28K scrap gold?
+Mike Dunn If you truly have some 28k gold then its probably worth millions of $ if not more because every piece of gold in any jewelry in the world today has only a maximum of 24k. ( just joking around with you). My assumption is you are talking about 24k gold and you can probably expect to get 60 to 70% of the gold value depending on the quantity you have. If you have 1 ounce or more than you should be able to get 80 to 90% of the value in my opinion. This depends on how reputable the dealers near you are, or how good your haggling abilities are, If you do have 1 ounce or more don't take less thank 80% of the value because there will be dealers willing to pay that or more.
Also the pricing will be affected by state and local law. Many state have holding law that require the buyer to hold the item(s) for a period of time. Time is money the more time the dealer has to hold the gold the greater his risk (fluctuating markets). So more risk equals lower prices.
