You have omitted an important step. It is important to indicate your intention just as you would at a four way stop. When taking the first exit indicate right, second exit no indication, third or fourth indicate left on entering the roundabout and right as you leave. You would fail your driving test in Europe if you failed to indicate.

I drove roundabouts in Portugal. Make sure you check the rules of roundabouts in each country you visit because they are different. In Portugal, if you're using the outer circle, you have to leave on the next exit. If you are using the inner circle, you leave at the 2nd, 3rd or subsequent exits or circle in it until you find your exit.

In a two lane roundabout, If you miss your exit and continue turning in the outer circle of the roundabout, there might come a case where somebody from the inner circle wants to exit, now in that case, which vehicle has to yield?
@afd3206
@afd3206 Год назад
That is a wrong thing to do. You shoul try never to circle around on the outer lane. If you get close to a roundabout and have any doubts about your correct exit, always aproach the roundabout on the left lane to the inner lane inside the roundabout. Go around as many times as you need to be certain which is your exit and take it on the next time. This way you cannot cross other vehicles exiting trayectories. This video has a big error of comprenhension. (Pardon my english if something is wrong it is not my main langiage).

@@theechosenone4471 the problem is that all you are saying and assuming is wrong. No, the outer lane s not intended to exit the roundabout. You can exit from both lanes with no problem. @@theechosenone4471 here is another one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-il0Qmt5AOC8.html No, you do not need to exit from the outer lane. You exit from the inner lane and you cross that outer lane doing exactly what you do when you enter the roundabout from the left lane to the inner lane. It is just the opposite. In one you enter in the other one you exit. The very important thing is that you DO NOT have anyone continuing turning on the outer lane. Tha is a very wrong thing to do.

May I ask if you enter from the south and are taking the 3rd exit, so you enter the left lane(on a 2 lane roundabout) how do you exit right from that left lane if there is a car on your right that enters from the North and they plan to continue straight(to go south), wouldn't this end up in a collision easily? To avoid collision it seems like one may get stuck in the left lane during very busy times, no?
@RichardHartl
@RichardHartl Год назад
Right, this is why you must not pass vehicles in a roundabout for this reason. Also, slower speeds are the norm here so you in the inner lane should be making your way out by the time the other car enters the circle. Not mentioned in video but you should yield to all traffic in roundabout, not just the outer lane if turning right or straight. Also you can usually go straight from left lane too but right lane is better. There will usually be signs anyway

That is very interesting. In Alberta in rules written several interesting things: 1. "Drivers planning to to travel past the first exit should use the left lane to enter and exit". Which means, that no "going straight" using the right lane. 2."Traffic on the right lane should yield to traffic on the left lane". That is complete mess, especially considering, that there is no such a situation, considering the 1st.

This video contains some things that are wrong. It is like a mix of someone that understand them and dont understand them. 1. You start explaining the correct use of lanes depending on the inteded exit. 2. 0:55-57. Correct, you should not turn to your third and fouth exit on the outer lane, BUT not because you are blocking those two cars. After all they both have YIELD signs there. Try not to ever go to your third or fourth exits using the outer lane, because what you might do is something that it is not in this video. It is correct to access from the left lane to the inner and leave straigh to the left lane on the second exit. That is when you may create an accident if driving paralel to someone that is doing so and turning to those 3/4 exit on the outer lane. Then i do not understand that if you have explain NOT to do so, why on earth then show that on min 2,:48. ??? It doesnt makee any sense. Approach in the right lane to the outer lane for first and second exits only. Left lane to the inner for the other exits. If you approach a roundabout and have doubts about your exit, get to it on the left lane and do as many turns necessary on the inner lane, NOT in the outer lane. Once you have seen your correct exit do one more turn and then take that exit. Hope my english is ok. Not my language.

2:28, you show something that before you said its wrong, and it is wrong, but then you use it to so how to leave safely. The rules and the do exist and are well stablished in the country of origing, where modern roundabout were invented, crearly say that one of the most importan things is to select the correct lane of acces depending on the entended exit. If we want to take the first or second exit, access to the roundabout on the right lane to the external lane inside the roundabout and take one of those exists. In a roundabout like the one you show, if we want to take the second, third and fourth exit access on the left lane to the inner lane inside the roundabout. Yes for the second exit you can either acces from the right or letf lane. What is of the utmost importance is tha we do not keep driving on the external lane to the third and fourth exit. Than can create and does create accidents. it is the number one cause of accidents in roundabouts.
