Wonderful video! Everything is perfectly explained 👌 The American PVC pipes seem very solid because here in Europe all those that I tried (32mm and 40 mm) do not resist the pressure.
@TheRocketeer
@TheRocketeer Год назад
In the States we also have schedule 80 pipe that is a lot thicker. If schedule 80 is available you could use that or try a different type of pipe like one used for a drain line. There is a balance between time, temperature and pipe strength. Keep the burn time short so the PVC does not have time to weaken from the heat. You could also try a thicker casting tube for the grains. I hope that helps.

Dont use PVC... Get some wood glue and paper... Even stronger because it is not soft as it heats up....

If you know how to solder the Eggtimer Apogee Deployment Controller is inexpensive. eggtimerrocketry.com/home/altimeters-av-bay/ The Perfect Flight miniTimer 4 www.perfectflitedirect.com/minitimer4/ Pet2+ even timer www.missileworks.com/store#!/PET2-Event-Timer/c/5760486 There may be other timers on the market. For a little more money you can get an altimeter that senses apogee and will fire the charge. This altimeter is the one I use for dual deployment. altusmetrum.org/EasyMini/

About 1month ago I was trying to make rocket candy fuel. I mixed 35g of sugar with 75g of kno3 while I was melting the. Mixture it suddenly caught off in fire
@TheRocketeer
@TheRocketeer Год назад
You may need a mentor to help make fuel. It should never catch on fire unless overheated and even that would take a lot with many warning signs.

Hi Chuck. Can you tell me what ratios you've had success with building alu and mag motors? Thanks.
@TheRocketeer
@TheRocketeer 10 месяцев назад
I have used up to 15% aluminum and that gives me a wild flame. The fuel is difficult to light and tends to run at very high pressure. For magnesium, I have run up to 5% and it seems to work well but does not have the wild tale. I think magnalium would work great at around 10% but I have not had a chance to test it. I use a doped fuel. In other words, I run the standard 65/35 ratio and add the metals on top of that. Be careful with magnesium and magnalium, the metal is highly reactive and has not been tested thoroughly. If you run tests with metals please let me know what you discover and use great caution while mixing, casting, and testing!

@@TheRocketeer Thank you Sir. I sure will. I might even start a channel on the subject so others can find a safe mid power motor. My plan is to build a motor with delay and ejection charge. I know some already exist but I kinda want to take it to the next level. Safety is a huge factor for me. Thanks again for sharing your experiences. Will stay in touch.

what is the maximum length we can expand the motor to?
@TheRocketeer

I have found the 6-inch motor to be reliable, a longer motor could add more risk. This is another link for the 6" motor - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ckzPWl7Wsd4.html I have made a larger 1 inch PVC x 8" version motor here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kU-fh2QyO1U.html Go to the video tab on my home page and you will find more videos on the subject.

@2:00 couldnt you just use a pfte (teflon) rod since its non stick regardless and can handle the temps of the sugar propellant
@TheRocketeer
@TheRocketeer Год назад
Yes, PTFE is a great material to use for this purpose and does not transmit as much heat. I use acetal (Delrin) for 54mm grains. Thanks for your comment!

Yes, any motor can explode. I have made plenty of PVC motors that performed well and did not cato but some did. I would say it is between an E-F.

What's the maximum weight of the rocket this motor can lift
@TheRocketeer
@TheRocketeer Год назад
With a 3/16 fender washer it lifted a 13oz (368g) spool to about 100' and then blew up. The raining cardboard was a fun event. I used a 1/4 fender washer in this motor so it will probably lift a little bit less. Keep in mind a spool is not very aerodynamic at all. You can see the video posted on my site. I would have to say it packs a punch for its size.
