Mine too. 11 week old yorkie. Anything you can share about what’s working for you? I’ve tried a lot is things that seems to connect the first day I try it and not the next day.
@@lucianaandreatta433 that’s true. A few things we stopped that’s helped: no more toys that squeak and just two he can have altogether and not at the same time. We don’t hype him up in any way no baby talk no tossing a toy at him. He mostly walks around the house or goes on walks as far as exercise when he’s out his crate. He’s still hyper but no longer overstimulated so it doesn’t take things to another level like it used too.
This dog is already trained to sit, stay, bed. We have a brand new rescue who jumps, runs, wiggles. He loves us, but he cannot sit, stay, or even calm down enough to get the leash hooked up. It takes brute force.
Wish I would have seen this about 8 years ago. I have a 100 lb. Rotty/Chow-Chow mix that LOVES every mammal that walks on land (two or 4-legged). In all these years, he has NEVER bitten another animal, but some (domestic) have taken a few nips at him because of his excitable ways. Although he is a gentle teddy bear, his excitableness and size have scared many a domestic animal and human being.
I understand the calming process but how did you get this dog to this point. It appears thst he has had done training before this video. So my question is how did you even get him to listen to anything you say. I have an excitable puppy who is all over the place and you are right don’t treat just get that calm from the very beginning?
I have one nutty dog and one that's a bit leash reactie and your videos have been sooooo helpful. I've done positive reinforcement for TWO YEARS with them training them for like 6 weeks at a time and with breaks in between and nothing worked. They NEED that firmness and correction sometimes!!
Kona is so adorable. My golden retriever is exactly like this - worse - outdoors around animals and ppl. I've tried everything. He's now nearly 2 yrs old and I literally have to avoid ppl and animals. His "walks" are actually off-leash in wide open safe areas w/o other dogs.
Thank you for this video! I wanted to refer to your age appropriation video: My dog is soon 25weeks old so he is struggling abit in the adolescent phase. Was training him on leash reactivity and to stay calm near other dogs prior to the phase. But now that he is very affected it has gotten hard to continue the same training while he is distracted by everything. Could you do a video on how to properly train dogs around that age and maturity phase in the future as well?
My dog is 2 years old and gets overexcited. Just got on RU-vid to find a video from you about this to start working on it a bit better and here this new one is. Love your videos!
Amazing content found your channel and slowly making my way threw the videos! Would love to see more on this for a lifestyle with more excitable breeds!
SERIOUSLY, so much great content! Thank you! I would love to see how you would work on a dog that would alert bark constantly inside the house. Especially at the door/window. I watched your previous “Fix Barking Fast” but that would be if the dog were being kept in a room if I’m not mistaken.
Really love this, I have a 2 1/2 year old gsd. He's amazing, he knows alot of commands but can definitely get hyper while inside especially when we have visitors. But I realize from this maybe I'm being too excitable or my guests are with him. So I now will remind them to be as calm as possible or just ignore him while I work with him
Man I love you for this video. My 6 month old GSD does this with guests. Only thing I don't know what to deal with his her mouthing. She doesn't do it on me anymore but she does do it on guests.
My dog is the same way when we have company, whether it's dogs or people. She's a 15 month boxer/terrier mix, very happy and eager to learn but her energy is repelling to guests and it's frustrating. Thank you for the advice!
My cocker is a menace. He is unable to do a calm stay. He will literally vibrate the whole time and stay VERY tense. I think he is missing the chill gene 😂
Your content is helping me so much. The way you act does not seem cruel to me in the slightest despite what some people may say, it seems much more cruel to allow bad behavior to continue uncorrected like I have for so long with my dogs. I am getting better though and these videos are allowing my dogs to do fun things with me like hike and play at the park. Could we possibly get a video of you taking your dog out on a walk on a hiking trail? Any tips you have for that would be great
Great videos! Can you do one on attention seeking behavior? My dog often demands attention from me (incessant barking even after being told to go to his bed) if he's not the center of attention (eg. I'm playing with my child, petting another animal, etc).
I have a 5 year old dog that has this insane puppy like energy. He completely forgets his manners, the second guests come over, or we go outside. I've never witnessed a dog at their age be SO...crazy, to say the least. He seems to be a total couch potato at just with the family in the house, though. Very treat/toy motivated, but sometimes it feels like he only sees the treat/toy and doesn't hear someone trying to command them. Needless to say, he's been a tough nut to crack! But appreciate your videos!
@@socks9597 sounds like a handfull! have you considered a treadmill? did wonders for a relative's zaney labradoodle puppy in a condo with no fenced yard.
@judymiller5154 we had an outside one, but it was very loud, and we live in a close proximity neighborhood at this time, unfortunately, so I didn't feel like it was fair to use to my neighbors. I'd love to invest in an inside one!!
This was a good video showing an excitable well-trained dog. Please show us how to manage a 10 week old male Golden that is VERY excitable and NOT trained yet. Thank you.
@@joeespo177 I believe you missed the point. It's a very young dog at 10 weeks is only setting into it's new home. Give it time. I'm not admonishing you, simple some advice. Patience is also necessary, obviously you need to learn so listening is also good😁
Puppies r noisy. And of course excitable. Lap therapy, After you take them out to do their business , put puppy on your lap and be quiet while petting. Don’t talk, especially don’t baby talk and keep the puppy there for several minutes aiming for longer periods. It’s a good bonding exercise also.
My Doberman is 2 and a half years old and still has way too much excitement, for literally anything. Could be simple as someone stood up, or something more intense like a knock at the door. We’ve done everything we can think of, including these tips, and he is still just so happy and pumped. We’re thinking he may have some ADHD or something, cuz it’s real bad.
It's amazing to see what you have accomplished with such a hyper dog however it was not much help for me because I don't know how you are able to get him calm enough to teach him those. I have a rescue named turbo I can't work with she's running circles around me. Do you have another video that will help
We adopted an American Pit who we call the aloof mellow fellow. He’s well behaved. Walks both loose and off leash, gate/doorway, sit, stay, etc trained BUT when he gets with his best buddy ALL that goes out the window. ALL he wants to do is rough tumble play and hump hump hump. He is soOooo persistent it’s like he’s obsessed. We don’t let them play until each are calm in a and sitting/laying position to no avail… two days of pulling him off, having him sit, stay, calm down, release and he goes right back at it. The only thing that slows him down is him getting tired. And Trey? He tolerates him and let’s him know when he’s had enough but that doesn’t seem to phase Apollo. He is obsessed with Trey. Apollo is walked 2-3 times a day, won’t chase/fetch more than a few throws before loosing interest so we try to get them together once a week for exercise but it’s soOooo tiring for me (I’m 68). He’s great around other dogs and I’m afraid his humping will start a fight so I’m very cautious. Can you do a video on humping??? Trey is over a year old, a BIG lab-mix boy around 90lbs and tolerates my 5-6 year old fixed pit Apollo, 62lbs. I’m hoping with consistency using your technique(s) will help him with this impulse control. In the meantime I’ll keep working every chance I get on all your techniques. Thank you for what you do💗
Again, my dog is exactly like this. Only, she’ll bolt out of her stay and run as fast as she can away from me. I basically have to sit with her and force her to stay. She won’t do anything she doesn’t want to do.
About a week ago I started watching your videos, I have been watching them every day since and have learned a lot from them. I have a two-year-old goldendoodle, she has a bad habit of barking. She barks at our neighbour when they are in their backyard, she will bark at dogs on the road when we go on a drive or walks. Can you please make a video on how to correct this behavior, will greatly appreciate it.
My dog sits and takes treats gently but goes absolutely insane when people come over and if he doesn't see you for 10 mins and you come back it's like you were gone forever. 🇨🇦 he's husky/lab 1 year old
After watching whole video I am glad I use my approach when I remember to. I need to remember to reinforce with the stay (and not good girl or yes or good.) And not a treat for everytime. Cause she gets way too excited and she Is super food driven .
Here's one of my personal favorites of Mr. Beckman's Separation Anxiety videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hAoDtfpBwVs.html Enjoy!
Thanks again for another very heplful video! I noticed the younger dog licking the mouth of Prince,my dogs do that too to one particular dog I have at home, may I ask what kind or sign of behavior that is?thanks!
Hi, your videos have been great, but I faced another problem. When I control my dog to listen when excited, another dog from a stranger keeps on trying to play with him and being excited, so my dog keeps being excited as well. Do you train your dog to stop being excited even when another dog keeps nipping at him to play? I can't control the other dog from a stranger or a neighbour.
I have a 1 year old jackrusell and since he was small he cries for everything but like a whisel cry when we get home the same even to take him for a walk it's so hard bcz he gets over exited and it's not the we don't take them we do but it has become so strefull to even go for a walk I have another dog a mix chihuahua and even if it's hot out side does even make a sound enjoys the walks it so crazy how different they are but I really need to learn how to train him to not get over exited to go for walks and when we get home
My Labrador the same but he is not young, he's almost 3 years old now. He just doesn't know how stay still for a good period of time, just wants to play all the time?
Amazing video! Can you please make a video of tips on how to address a young puppy (3-5 months of age) barking and pulling towards strangers? When we try to redirect our lab girl to pay attention to us instead, she is completely locked on the stranger/distraction and doesn’t seem to want to follow our directions/commands. Thanks!!
This is good but the dog already knows a lot. My dog is a hyper goldendoodle with more of the poodle side. So super hyper 1 and a half year old. She knows sit, we are working on stay, there's no way she is going to a bed and staying to work on the hyperness and her jumping on people is out of control. She's a good size dog, 65 pounds, so it takes all my strength to get her down. She's gotten a lot better on walking but she still tends to pull. Especially if she sees another animal. I correct her everytime but she is headstrong like a poodle. She's very sweet just super hyper and excited. Any tips for a dog like that??
Oof. I have that problem right now. I have a Lab-Golden Mix, turned one year today and a service dog in training. Mix of field line and show line. Immense will to please, extremely eager to work, super enthusiastic. He gets super hectic during training. No problem when we're working on dog sports like obedience, protection work, anything that requires speed and precision, because then I can turn it into positive stress. But when I'm at home, working on calm exercises like service dog tasks, he gets so excited that he will fall into extreme stress behaviour. Panting like crazy, wide eyes, frantic, hectic, gets unsure and slowly starts to shut down. I'm disabled so this behaviour really stresses me out, and I've been quite overwhelmed. Maybe this will help.
Love your video. I have my second Doberman..my first lived nearly 13 years and was my beloved baby girl who shared my bed and was so sweet and loyal ..my Velcro baby .. half American and European. My puppy I got after she passed at 8 weeks is all European and a monster I love too. I've spent mega thousands with two trainers who have not done well. She's stopped eating the leather couches but is still running inside and outside and remodeling whatever she can. HELP!@
Crate train! Limit everything she does, be the boss! She needs a very strong leader, be that person. Structure is key. Walk at a heel, sniff only when you say break, then back to a heel. No backyard free time off leash without supervision, start to destroy stuff, correct immediately. This is going to take time, patience, and interrupt your routine to create one for her.
What would you do, If the dog try to bite you when you grab his collar in order to be free, sometimes he also lies on the floor and don't move, he's 7 months old. Thank you.
I have a golden, she is now 5 months…is the devil in a dog body…i gonna put her in a day care one time a week becouse i think she need to bitt other dogs insted my hands! Today i was looking to make her more relax and i give her 2 kongs for a day but now im gonna give 4 and also i just realize if i doing something in the house she put is noise to see what im doing and i found that she relax, i think that they are so smart that they are continue learning and get bored…i just buy a puzzle to try if her relax her mind to. Like you i wonder if mine dog learn how to be more relax becouse its stressing me out
I love your videos but as you always say consistincy is the key an you have to be on them all the time , my 1 1/2 yr old doby has come so far but I m on her all the time.
I don’t think my dog is trainable, I’ve spent the first year of his life doing everything I can, everything I’ve researched, and he’s gotten bigger than I can physically handle. He’s proven he understands commands but is choosing not to listen. I need serious help with this little monster. I can’t even walk him because he has literally dragged me down the road and left hefty bruising all over my legs and torso. If I try to hold his collar or harness to calm him, he starts biting. If I ask others in the house to back me up with the training they straight go behind me and undermine everything I just tried. What should I do with an ADHD dog who’s too strong to handle and no help is being offered by friends (except one who can’t be here 24/7) and family? The misbehavior is starting to cause bad fights among the people in the house
At 130 (hahaha I am laughing that's the mistake I've been doing. I keep forgetting. I didn't realize. When I don't she stays when I reinforce good behavior she gets over excited again and jumps up. ) identical to my 8 mo old pup I've been striving for 5 months with on stay. Oh my gosh. Never had an over excitable dog. First time when I remind her she does great!
my dog does this on walks and when she doesn't get to go off she screams to no end/ pulls/ and does not listen if we are walking towards someone she knows!
@@BDTraining thanks, love your videos. My old dogs passed away 10 years ago and haven’t had a dog since but. Got a new shiba puppy now, and your ways make a lot of sense.
