Just use a multimeter on Continuity and extension plug(or long wires) . Use the pins on the extension plug as a extension for your multimeter probes . Stick one end of the wire that you are trying to identify into one of the holes on the plug then take the other end of the extension plug wherever there are data cables and then stick one of the multimeter probes into the same hole of the extension plug but oppisite side , then with the other probe touch the wires one at a time till you hear a beep or have continuity

Just look at the print on the cable, mine says 5e. If yours only says 5 it's only 5

What you'll need is a switch or a mesh network such as eero and add a switch to it.

Coax cable will feed your modem only, not any other device in the house. The modem will have a coax in, and an ethernet out. That ethernet cable will then feed the WAN port on your router, and this cable should be plugged into the LAN port on your router or your routers switch, or a separate network switch. If you have a combo router-modem, the coax cable will feed the router-modem and this cable will plug into the router-modem's switch. Check out this website on explanation of the different standards. www.truecable.com/blogs/cable-academy/t568a-vs-t568b TIA 568 A is more modern and is needed for some types of protocols, TIA 568 B is more compatible with analog phone systems. Both standards will work fine with ethernet as long as you have both terminated the same way. Keep in mind, one of these standards MUST be used. Simply ensuring that pinouts are the same on both ends will not render a useable data connection.

Yeah i’m trying to figure out the same. I have 4-5 phone jacks throughout my house, with cat5e cables feeding them. Then I have one un-terminated cat5e that ends in an exterior box that otherwise has only coax connectors in it. So, how is that exterior cable connected to all the phone jacks in my house? Are they all spliced together or something? I would have thought you’d need a switch of some sort to make them all functional.

@@kevs1768 yes, but not in a good way. They are all daisy-chained together, which works for phone lines, but not networking. I ended up getting a few MoCA adapters to use my coax wiring instead, since running ethernet in my house would be a major pain. The MoCA setup has been working great though

@@TheStereoField Or you could be spicy and use it like a bus-net, which was the case most of the time when Ethernet was new, that's why it's so good at collision-detection!

He showed you how to do 1 of 2 ends, the other end is done the same way so he didnt show you him doing it

Land line will no longer be active on this port. Check your network hub. The other end of the cable should be terminated with a crimp type or punch down Cat6 connector and ONLY be connected to a single switch port. If it is spliced into a phone system or terminated any other way, it will not work. I'll see about making a video on terminating the other end, as I'm getting questions regarding this.

@@audioenvision8626 so maybe this is my problem since 2 rooms have phone jack and one phone jack doesn't work in my room,idk why maybe not connected,not sure

Yes, but you are not going to see much benefit if the house is not wired for Cat8. It's a lot like putting a golden gas cap on a Ford Fairmont.

@@audioenvision8626 How do I know if my house is an A or B for the hookup? I didn't hear you explain the difference when hooking the ethernet plug into the wiring.
