Hi Phil,new to your channel,and enjoying it. I am a diy decorator of 40+ yrs,but always into new techniques,and tips. I like to dampen my paper with a squirty spray prior to pasting,is this a waste of time..? Comment on that? Now a fan of paste wall paste,but usually paste paper aswell,is this just a waste of paste? Have a brill table,an Aldi one,has ali edgeing,2× V shape legs,been great. Regards,Richi.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 6 месяцев назад
hi. where shall I start?? No need to dampen paper.. you're wasting your time. the only time you will do this is with pitch foil paper that needs soaking up with a damp spoange before applying the 3in1 adhesive (but now there's Damp Stop which you past the wall). Lincrusta also needs soaking in first too before adhesive is applied.. tha will expand 1/4" non wavane paste the wall papers don't need pasting, you'll make like harder doing it... past the wall and hang directly off teh roll. The on;y time we'll paste a non woven is when it has those little pearl bead balls on the surface. I spoken aoutthose in videos before. is the paste table similar to this one? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Js9h3IARXUo.htmlsi=riw2A7ahALFLzKTl

Another great video Phil. Can I ask a couple of questions. I see u still use Wickes paste, was ur dad watering it down at the start of the video? Also u stated if u start by the window u measure in 10mm & use the laser lined up on the 2 marks, how come u never used the laser on this video? It's easy to run out when applying lining paper if you are not following a line. Thanks in advance!😊
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
Hi, you watched it all the way through? You saw where I started against that part of coving edge? meaning hung the longest length first to make it easier for cutting? Yep, wickes paste and beeling, depending were we are to get hold of some... ease it for lining paper, no need to have it too tick and making it hard to apply.. it's only lining paper, but needs to soak in.
@miickyp
@miickyp Год назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Ha I always watch them all the way thru, even that hour long one on how to paint a wall!😂 Yeah I understood about starting by the coving doing longest length first, I would have been worried when ur past the coving in the middle of the ceiling u have no straight line to follow & it could all go belly up like a banana shape!🤨 One last question, do u water the paste down even for normal paper or just lining paper? Sorry to keep bothering u!🙂

What do you think to using cornflour and water as wallpaper paste for ceilings and walls, to make it easier to remove and is cheap too? Does this make the wallpaper tear easier. I think if its thick enough it may work. Im renting and Ive bought three lots of wallpapers I like. It only occurred to me afterwards about removal if I want to change it or leave the rental. I read that liquod corn starch (cornflour and water made up) makes removal easy?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 5 месяцев назад
LoL Let me know how long before the mould starts to come from the lack of fungicide in it. A packet flake paste is easy to make, cheap to buy and will stick well and also removed easy as it will soften back up with hot soapy water when you come to remove it.
@barrysmith5466

Always wipe the paste off with a sponge before using your brush to relay the paper otherwise you will get paste onto the bristles of the brush,more important when hanging a finish paper,from a time served painter and decorator.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
Thanks for the info! you saw I don't go all the way with the brush before its sponged down.... that's where the skill comes in... lol

Hi Phil, I know your dad is the pasting for you, have you ever owned a paste machine? For when your on your own. I have a tapofix profix CS. One of the cheaper paste machines. Find it comes in handy every now and then. Although I know a lot of papers are paste the wall these days. Great for lining paper and easy fresco etc. and finish papers once you get the hang of it. Just need to thin the paste quite a lot.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
my dad had two, 40yrs ago, said they were more hassle than they were worth, getting the paste right .. acting up... and then the clean out. So ened up getting rid.

Hiya Phil, unrelated question, but here goes, I am going to spray my conservatory frame with original kolorbond, once you add the hardener how long have you got to work with it ? I have bought a hvlp sprayer but not used it yet, the graco with the pressure pot. Would you mix several smaller quantities ?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator

Mine lol one we've had years. we have a few of them, X bar tressle style.. every so often we sand down and coat up when we're about qite at work. Brian has his own, which is a bit better than the one we use, as his is a bit higher board hight, ours have dropped a bit... the wood bruises and strains on the legs, dropping it down slightly.

Hi phill you mentioned about a finish paper on a ceiling. We’re you saying that you don’t paper the same direction as the light source you go the opposite way ? Is that correct
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 9 месяцев назад
You can, but start the other side of the room or from the other direction do joints won't correspond. Lining is a different size to stand wallpaper though, chances of joints meeting up are slim, but it does happen
@robbennett9631
@robbennett9631 9 месяцев назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Thankyou for your reply phill I will stick with the way always thought and will go with the finish paper the opposite way to the light source. Like you said they did this years ago so the light doesn’t show up Any seams that were defective 😃😃

@@robbennett9631 the finish paper wants to be starred from the main light source.... the main window. I thought you meant the lining paper, if you were papering over it.
@TheOlzee
@TheOlzee Год назад
Someone else asked this but it wasn’t really answered. Why didn’t you use a pencil or later line on first sheet to make sure it went across straight? I’ve never lined a ceiling but I assumed it’s the same as lining walls and you need a line to follow first sheet?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
There was no need. I followed the edge of the coving... It's was about 4" long of cove then it went ... The paper then takes its own way. No creases etc it's down. If you watch all of it, you see I work back towards the window from that paper edge. It was easier to get the longest length on, then work from that.
@TheOlzee
@TheOlzee Год назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator ok cheers Phil
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@@TheOlzee if hanging a paper, start from the main ligh source, window. As I explained in the video... Offer it up and bring it in an inch, then work to a line from that Lining paper you don't have to be so precise.
