are you indonesian? i meant as a main subject, as far as i know english isnt a second language, not everyone there learns english... can u correct me on that? i think it depends on region

@@rustylarry7465 well I have only been studying in Jakarta and Bandung (big city next to Jakarta) and in my middle and high school, english test is one of four main tests for graduation. And at university, everything is written in english (still using Indonesian convo tho). But I’m pretty sure even in the rural areas they all teach english in some ways

@@rustylarry7465 heyy don't underestimate us like that. The "Indonesia" that you think was 30 years ago or even more🙄. Okay first of all, you need to know that Indonesia is the no.3 largest *Trilingual* country after Israel and Saudi Arabia, about 17+% of Indonesian population nowadays can speak 3 languages. And the most common combination is Javanese+Indonesian+ENGLISH. Yes, *ENGLISH!* (while keep in mind that Javanese and Japanese are two different things). So of course-lah we use english as a second language(at least for indigenous Jakartans who don't have any regional language) and as a third language for people who live in other provinces who have regional languages. And abt ur "main subject" question, English has been taught in Indonesia since the 1967 in line with the decision of the Minister of Education and Culture. And as the time goes on, from being just a side subject has now being the main subject. Just like the answer above me, all students from elementary school to senior high school, if they wanna graduate then they have to pass the english test. And I think the english speakers in Indonesia have been growth significantly after the american pop culture became famous since 1990s. The thing is, Indonesia that you think is different. And in order to avoid some hot tempered like me, you need to check the truth before commenting (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
