I get it Chandi. My first 4 decades were spend surrounded by mountains in the Seattle area. There's no substitute for Mount Rainier. I've been in southern New Mexico 10 years now and have the Organ Mtns that make my heart sing. When we do get snow (like back in Oct) it turns the desert into a magical place. And now they're protected as a National Monument thanks to President Obama. So I get the sentiment of Montagne: impressive, majestic, and beautiful. Thank you Emma for designing this piece! And thank you Chandi for bringing it to us!
Hey local fiber friend! The organs are very unique and beautiful. They become just as magical when all the poppies bloom in the spring! We may be in the desert but we’re surrounded by so much beauty!
You are such a beautiful person, inside and out. And you are such a pleasure to watch knit. I could watch you knit all day long! I wish you had longer tutorials.
@@r44inspector44 oh well I may not have put the correct name in, but Chandi does a live knit every so often - with tea! I bet if you look back thru her videos you can find them - they are an hour or so long - she is such a pleasure to watch
Absolutely fabulous shawl!!! I love it so much! My grand aunt and uncle worked for a silver mining company, he mined and she cooked. They bought property in Anchorage and Cooper's Landing way back in the "good old days" when land was much cheaper. They build 4 cabins in Cooper's Landing and willed 1 of them to her nieces and nephews. I was able to go there only once. Alaska is such a beautiful state. My other uncle, my aunt's brother, built a small house in Anchorage facing the ocean and railroad tracks, was so small, the shower is in the living room! My husband and I are looking for a vacation cabin in Alaska. I LOVE snow!!! And YOU! Thanks for another beautiful shawl, my list keeps growing. Think I've typed enough, got to get knitting!!!
I honestly never thought I'd get passed the basics with knitting and crochet. You're videos are so helpful and encouraging! Not too mention the added bonus that they're so calm 😌
This is ALMOST an excellent video. There is only one thing that could make it better; flipping the video and uploading it as a left handed tutorial!!! So please, if at all possible, do just that for us lefties? You're showing the work so clearly and explaining it so well!!! Thank you in advance if you are able and thank you for sharing the scenery too💙❄ Edit: if flipped, the captions will backwards but most of us lefties are used to that lol
Oh how amazing I loved listening to you talk about your memories and I only wish I could knit like you I can do knit stitch and purl stitch lol but I love watching you keep safe x
I love this. Beautiful color and design. I unfortunately have never learned to knit. I crochet. I've often thought about learning to knit, but I think It would be alittle frustrating to me , I have anxiety some . I know how I was at learning crochet. But maybe some day I might challenge myself, I am 57 and just been cooped up at home from Treatment with Cancer since August. I have crocheted 2 shawls from your patterns, during my Treatment's . I love you and your work.
I hope that your recovery is going well. I totally understand how learning new things can be frustrating. We will have some really pretty crochet patterns coming soon! 💕
This is exactly what ive been looking for! I need something to get me through the 3rd trimester, it seems to last forever 😄 Ive hoped to learn the method for a while and ive just received a beautiful sky-blue yarn, cant wait to start!
You've done it. I'm finally enticed into making a shawl. I received some extra extraordinary yarn for my birthday in November and have been searching for the right project. My husband really wants me to make a skirt with it. I peeped the yardage and I have enough for both. Now I have to find the perfect cammy to go with. Thanks for bringing this pattern to our attention! Speaking of skirts... Yours is 😍!!!
Omg stunning shawl! Never been to your neck of the woods, but Seward and Homer Alaska were beautiful and so much fun to visit! It’s an annual trip for me and my husband. Love it so much!
Gorgeous shawl Chandi! Love the shape and the story behind it. Alaska certainly is a breathtakingly beautiful state. Thanks for sharing and have an awesome weekend!💞
Thank you for this beautiful pattern. I have always been intimidated by circular shawls but your help it looks doable. Love how you link it to your memories of childhood in Alaska. Looks other worldly!
Wow, that shawls looks so beautiful, but I am still a beginner, so it looks complicated to me. Wish I could do it. I will save your video for future references.
This whole video makes me soooooooooo happy. Just an utter delight to watch. Have I followed along? I did indeed... In my mind...and the end result was perfect. My next project... Move to alaska.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful memories. The way you knit is mesmerizing. This is a gorgeous shawl. I hope to try to make it sometime. Thank you for sharing this.
Omg!! I absolutely love ❤️!!! 😍😍 will be making this along with my list of things to make! Chandi thank you for sharing your memories with us!! You are such a beautiful soul and have a lot of life!! 💖
Go ahead and give it a try. If you run into a problem, or if you have questions they are very good about answering them promptly and in beginners speak LOL. I've even asked them questions about a pattern that wasn't theirs and they very graciously answered them and helped me figure out where I was going wrong. They're the best!
What a beautiful pattern! Yet another delicious treasure trove of a project. It looks so big and soft and flowy! Admittedly, I also wondered if I could use a thicker yarn and maybe make this a beautiful throw rug or something (not with super-thick wool), or a glorious wall-hanging as well! Your sweater is also cozy and wonderful-looking. Did you make that as well?
You could definitely do that! Thank you for the lovely compliment! I did make the sweater. It is this pattern here: www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/knit-your-first-sweater-course.html 💕💕
Also thank you for the reminder of the magic loop method, I have been doing it a lil tat wrong (not turning my work around ... which resulted in having the yarn being on top and looking like a stitch - if that makes sense)
😂that's pretty simple, mon ... you got this right 👍😊 then ta 😱, the a should sound like the a from Ann "a" or C "a" rlos of Americ "a", then gne and you had this good too 🥳. MontAgne ... easy right 👏😊. I absolutely love your scarf. thank you very much for sharing with us. ❤️💖💐
Inspiring! How do you block such a big shawl? I have enough blocking mats for a half-pi, but I don’t want to fold it double and get a sharp line on the shawl. What would you do? Thank you for the pattern!
Bellísimo.. Felicitaciones x su gran creatividad y generosidad de corazón.. bendiciones infinitas desde 🇪🇨👏🥰❤️.. Por favor puede ayudarme con el hilo q utiliza.. Gracias
I have some pearlescent fingering yarn in your southern peach (?) color way that has been staring at me, do you think the pearlescent yarn would be good for this pattern? Or is it better to use something with some stretch?
You could certainly do that! You could also try using a different weight of yarn as well. Whatever you do, just do a gauge swatch and make sure you like the look of it before continuing. 💕
Unfortunately I cannot read patterns because I learnt everything I know from my grandma’s fingers😍. Patterns for me are Japanese!🤣🤣🤣 I like tutorials… thank you 🙏🏻 anyway 😘
hi dear. I got a yarn called viking Garn naturgarn ... it is bulky and I got 350 grams of it. it is a mixture of blue dark grey and purple ...when u knit it it is like strips ..... I want to make a medium size jumper or pullover ... .. and I think to mix it with a plain color yarn (dark grey) from the same brand bulky ... I m thinking of patterns that make use of the multicolour yarn in a way that it doesn't become strips. I thought u can recommend me any of your pattern or anything that make it work? thanks so much :Xxxx
Here is a link to our bulky weight patterns: www.expressionfiberarts.com/categories/patterns.html?_bc_fsnf=1&Craft=Knit&Yarn+Weight=Bulky I'm not sure if we have anything that would work for you. 💕
You could use whatever tools you have available to block it. you could use a mattress and pins, or maybe cardboard and pins. Whatever is available. Here is a link to a video that might help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-slx0fjHC6gY.html Thanks!
Absolutely stunning pattern, what size circulars do you use? (I use magic loop, but I am curious on how long the needles are for when you get to the point where they go all the way around
You can use any size of circulars. I recommend, once you get a decent number of stitches to try the traveling loop method (google search) and then switch to all the stitches going around the circulars. I'd try 24" circulars at first but truly, any will work. :)
@@ExpressionFiberArts also I mean when you have all of the stitches finally, 576 or something like that, what size cable? I’d say like what 32 inches or so?
Thanks! My last question I’m sorry about all these questions, is I assume the gauge of 28st per 4 inches after blocking? I have yet to block my swatch, but before blocking I’m getting 30 inches per 4 inches
Hello! A year later lol and I’ve come back to this project - I do have a question. For the sk2p you slip a stitch purl wise instead of knit wise. This confuses me as I have found that virtually every other source instructing one on how to do sk2p slips that stitch knit wise, NOT purlwise as you’ve done here. How does it affect the finished stitch appearance wise?
Hi, thank you for your question. It'll be almost invisible. I think only a person looking at it very closely (and knows how to knit) might be able to tell. Slipping the stitch purlwise will add a twist (like a twisted stitch). So I think it's totally up to you how you'd like to work the sk2p. Hope this answers your question. Have a wonderful day and let me know if you have any additional questions. 💕
@@ExpressionFiberArts oh so what you’re saying is you’re intentionally slipping it purl wise to make that twist (even though the usual sk2p is slipped knit wise)
@@ExpressionFiberArts update: I went ahead and tried doing the sk2p slipping purlwise and compared it to my sk2ps where the slips are worked knitwise. While the difference is minor, you’re right it is definitely visible. I will not lie I believe I prefer the look of the sk2p slipped purlwise! Did you choose to do the sk2p slipping purlwise for this pattern only as a stylistic choice or do you always do sk2p’s this way (slipping purlwise). As far as I’m aware, the usual sk2p is done by slipping knitwise (every source I’ve ever looked at has done it this way).
@@ExpressionFiberArts yay!! That’s awesome. Also I posted on Instagram (beautiful page) and the chart d is so confusing as well! This is my favorite shawl because of how much thought goes into what it symbolizes.
We don't have any circular shawls, but here are some of the shawls we have available in crochet. www.expressionfiberarts.com/categories/patterns.html?_bc_fsnf=1&Craft=Crochet&Project+Type=Shawls%2FWraps 💕
I started this today and I used double pointed needles to start , with so few stitches to start pulling them back and forth was too difficult and fiddley for me
I really, truly wish that more of your patterns were free. I love the patterns that you have on youtube but when I start the videos I am almost always disappointed to find that the whole pattern is not shown in the video.
