Don`t just ride your longboard one sided. Learn how to use both of your feet and push your longboard or skateboard pedidextrous.
The principles of ChiPushing and the exercise of skate-walking as shown in the video can help you to skog more efficient.

What the heck man this should have way more views this is the only tutorial I found that was exactly what I was looking for

Funny this is almost the same technique I taught myself for long distance skateboarding. Started using it on a 500+ mile trip that took 5 1/2 days.

Damn I heard about skogging online and I wanted to try it when I go to school because I’ll be commuting around 3 miles there and 3 miles back and this tutorial is perfect thank you so much

Chris Yandall in a Skateboarder magazine (1976 issue) advocates a similar way of pushing with both legs and called it 'jog' too. But on his techinique the back leg doesnt go forward, but it stays in the back the whole time. it's more like pushing regular and mongo alternately. (searching for this techinque is how I found this video)

good practice when you are riding normal and want to change your front foot position to either the middle or the nose. Being able to put weight on the back foot while pushing to adjust front foot placement is good for beginners

Bruh I somehow started doing this on my own to practice switch... still cant power yet but it's super fun to mix in with freestyle type things. Maybe even attempt reverse skog but not with speed

Finally I know what skogging is, thank you! Which deck is this? Wheels look like seismic. And trucks - is it Carver CX? Too stable for CX or you have perfect precision landing foot and ankle control.
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging 3 года назад
The deck is an old Steven Meketa skogger model from Whatever Skateboards, the wheels are Seismic Speedvents and the trucks are Carver CX modified with harder bushings in front.
@Rideables

@@Chi-Surf-Skogging that's quite advanced to modify carver, thank you for the details! Why still carver CX then? It's still turny if you press it hard?

Very cool. This looks really useful for switching stances. Also, if you put the video on 0.75X speed, it helps see the movement better and sounds like a really crunchy Radiohead song 😂

Is it best to have a 'flat' longboard like this? Mine has double drop deck and if I don't step right in the middle it swerves off hard.
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging 3 года назад
Actually you can skog on any board. In the beginning it’s better to have a larger one that has more space for your feet. If it swerves off you will have to practice some more on your balance and accurate foot placement until you can do it. You could also use harder bushings to make your trucks less agile.

Great, detailed technical video! Thank you! I saw it this morning and went outside to practice. After about 20 minutes I was able to do it in a slow motion, and then got much better after an hour. Thanks again! QUESTION: Do you recommend a board without grip tape for this? I am about to order a new one anyway. When learning this today, I've noticed several times that my foot was catching on the grip tape while sliding forward. I'd like to keep my sliding foot as close to the deck as possible without lifting it too far off the board.
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging 4 года назад
Thanks for writing about your experiences. Well done! It´s very nice to hear that people like this video and the way to skog I´m showing here. Actually you can do the footslide on any board, fully gripped or not. I think when you get more and more comfortbale with this method you will feel alright lifting your foot a little bit higher during the sliding motion. But of course, if you keep it very close to the deck, a board without grip tape is the better choice.
@Felix-ou3xe
@Felix-ou3xe 4 года назад
If you’re looking for a board without grip tape, try a longboard from Penny.
@crookedtool

What's the advantage of moving the foot forward each time aside from the impulse push? It's less risky, IMO, to have fixed foot positions when skogging (as long as both feet fit between the trucks when positioned heel to toe.) I will try this out for a bit, though.
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging 11 месяцев назад
The forward movement of the foot allows for a quick change of the stance between goofy and regular while riding. Although you can use this forward foot slide to propel your board, I wouldn’t recommend using it non-stop. I usually only use it to change my stance after several pushes in fixed position. The continuous repetitions in the video are for exercise reasons to get used to it and to build muscle memory.

Does this only work with a longboard or can you do it with a skateboard?
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging Год назад
For beginners it’s easier to do on a longboard, as you have more space for the foot placement. But it’s also possible with a smaller skateboard. It all depends on the development of your skills.

What deck is that you're riding?
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging 2 года назад
It‘s a flat, no concave deck from Whatever Skateboards. It‘s an older model, designed in collaboration with Steven „Skogger“ Meketa. In my opinion it was one of the best decks ever made with Skogging in mind.

So why not just push normal? What is the purpose?
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging 5 лет назад
Learning to skog will help you to get less exhausted if you use your skateboard to commute for longer distances and if you combine skogging with chipushing the purpose is to fine tune different components of your movement to make pushing even more energy saving and efficient. Another reason is to get a more complete workout that reduces the risk of imbalances from the asymmetrical movement of continuous one sided pushing.

@@Chi-Surf-Skogging ok, but then why not just walk/jog?
@Chi-Surf-Skogging
@Chi-Surf-Skogging 5 лет назад
Because with a skateboard you can go for longer distances with less impact on your joints and bones. But the main reason is, it is a lot more fun than jogging.

@Palm Coast Adventures there is no grip tape on his board. Good question tho
@cameronhillebrand758
@cameronhillebrand758 4 года назад
@Palm Coast Adventures you dont slide your foot. You step. I do this to practice switch and freestyle. I do not do it to commute. But if I get better at it I might do commute freestyling because this uses both legs equally the point of this is to get more of a work out and train both legs evenly. Also its rad for helping with quick footwork on the board (hardstyle shuffler that now skates, fully gripped 8.0 good wood skate deck.)
