Are you saying it correctly? In this video I will show you the sounds that English speakers tend to mispronounce in Spanish. With this video you will improve your pronunciation and be more confident when you are speaking Spanish. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to say something you know and saying it incorrectly. It will lower your confidence in speaking your second language and it will make you more hesitant to say it again. Some of these pronunciation mistakes are due to strange sounds like the Spanish "ñ" and the "e". The "e" in Spanish is very, very different from an English "e".

Linda Sanderson I don't think any spanish as a second language book would point this out. Usually you never see this word in the sigular, because they aren't usually that big so who orders one or gets a can of just one? Also if we made it "Tamal" in English then the plural would be Tamals. So either way it's not going to match how the word is handled in Spanish.

I went to Bogotá, Colombia a couple years ago, and I was eating food from the breakfast buffet. I asked one of the locals what I was eating, and he said “tamal”. It wasn’t that point in time that I started to understand that concept. The plural of tamal, would be tamales, and in English we say tamale. Hmmmm

Those of you who think Ana sounds angry are mistaking passion for anger. If you are just starting out learning, I can see where maybe it sounds as if people will get mad at you if you make mistakes and/or sound l like a gringo. Making mistakes is part of the learning process. Only jerks will get mad at you if you pronounce things incorrectly. But if you want to be understood by people who only speak Spanish, you do need to learn to pronounce Spanish words as a native Spanish speaker would. With practice, you will get better. Ana is proud of her native language and wants to make sure her students avoid some common mistakes if possible. Ana's passion for teaching her language makes each video entertaining and a joy to watch.

Ha ha ha. It can be frustrating. I've even heard some say: Dja•lah•pee•noe, with the hard j sound as in jail. But the English language has the short e sound too, like in Spanish. Examples are the words, pet, get, pen, hen, ten, etc. So how come when they see the letter e in a foreign word, they automatically pronounce the e as a long e sound, like in peep, feet, etc? M

Please don't pretend that mispronouncing words shows a lack of respect for a language or culture. It's counter-productive. Many of us are here and trying our best to learn precisely because we DO respect the language and culture, but learning comes with mistakes. FYI, you speak English with a pretty thick accent, but I doubt any of us interpret this as a lack of respect for our language.

South America is way more popular as a tourist destination than Africa plus those francophone regions are regions are spread out all over the world. Business? English/mandarin. That's why I think most people see no good motivation to learn French. My female colleagues wanted to learn it just because they liked how it sounds.
