I was playing on Normal speed and was confused at how this whole thing takes about 10 minutes. Did some googling and realized the game is played on Faster usually. Neat!
Great video, hard to find 2021 BO videos that explain as well as you did. Very helpful for new players, step by step commentary pairs well with BO write up.
I loved the in depth explanations. Actually explaining the process fully and acknowledging that this or that step is difficult for beginners and why was beyond helpful. Edit: also you gave general rules to follow but also acknowledged the cases where those rules varied (like observer placement and evolution chamber)
I've played starcraft 1. But i am kind of a beginner in starcraft 2. I love zerg. And this tip and guide helped me a lot. Thanks Hu Shang. Really looking forward for more tips and tricks. Hope you notice and read my comment
thanks for creating this video . I just started the game a few days ago and i only play campaign and Co-op missions . I'm really glad I found this video
Very good explanation of your build for a beginner such as myself. Haven’t played StarCraft in 20 years or so I think. So glad I’m back into and that there is videos like this out here.
Man Thank you very much for explaining slowly and understandable for beginners. I watched many other of the tutorials, most of them were too fast and Not as understandably like yours.
Not a bad start, good format, nice n clear. Hope the new zergies can use this to build, expand their skill and muscle memory and cycles. The way 4gate stalker helps ‘program’ toss players into things. :) look forward to these advancing, (and our coaching sessions lol) :D
i wanted to thank you for this, my win ration has rise a lot (in silver 1) i fail at somethings e.g forget the lair for a long time but still i end up with a really strong economy and if i dont lose to an early attack i atleast do enough damage so if i macro descent enough it is a really ez win, again thanks for the high quality video man!
Bit of a learning curve but youll get it in no time :) Might take like 10-15 games to bring your rank down to beginner level so dont worry if you lose the first few ranked And come join our discord :) lots of ppl willing to help there

I played for the first time since probably 2000 and just got beaten down. I always played Terrain but going to try Zerg. Back in the day we used modems and the lag could be terrible if one player had a bad connection.
My best race is terran but my favorite is protoss (You could argue im about equal between them and terran as far as skill) But I really want to understand zerg. They've always seemed counter intuitive to me. How is one supposed to be a swarm that builds up quickly when you need the larva for drones for buildings. (And yes I realize queens are a thing. As well as extra hatcheries.) But the amount of drones needed for good defenses as well as necessary buildings. Not to mention overlords. Idk it just seems like it takes up minerals that'd be better spent on army. And you almost never seem to have enough larva. Please don't bash people. I don't play this game competitively or even on a semi regular basis. Im just a noob wanting to understand how players can pull off swarms.
I haven't played zerg yet but I think Ill hop in once I watch this whole thing Terran main and for whatever reason Zerg just seems super intimidating to play
Thats a very broad question. Depends on which minion holds the line. My opinion: @ 200 supply: If roach/Hydra I try and make around 12-17 hydras. Rest all roaches. Hydras outrange roaches. Having a good spread while roaches tanking the hydras slam. They are squishy I also withdraw once most roach # depletes. I wait for reinforcements b4 engaging again.
I am beating Elite AI with Terran like cake thanks to you. I will try zerg now and jump into competetive when I feel I am ready (hoping that I'll feel I am ready :D)
after preparing a lot against bots, don't let the first 5-20 games in ranked discourage you. it might pit you against some much better players for a while until your elo is properly set. at some point it will work and you get to have evenly matched opponents most of the time. trust me there are many many really bad players out there so that almost everyone will find mostly proper matches once the elo works (at least in EU this is definitely the case). have fun!
Getting back into playing after 8 years off and this is great. One question, when would you take your third on this build? As your initial first push is going? I am thinking more so to cover if the push is held and you have to back off? or would this be an all in and just keep pushing roaches?
It's fairly all in, but if they take some worker damage/go air you could transition. You can take the 3rd base before you push too if you want (will need to delay the gasses more). Fallback plans aren't really a thing in Starcraft 2. It's better if you realize the plan won't work before you do it and then make an adjustment. If you commit to something and it doesn't work you're probably losing and it will be up to the opponent to not capitalize on the advantage and let you back in the game. One of the exceptions would be if you kill their natural but then they bring their whole army and camp on the top of their ramp and you can't kill them but you're massively ahead. In that situation you could transition.
That's a fantastic video, HuShang, as usual: clear and thorough. Super useful indeed. I just have one question: you mentioned "rally" and used it many times. What is it exactly and how do you do it? Thanks in advance!
Often I will use this against Protoss and they will have 1-2 void rays in defence. I can manage to deal good damage but rarely to kill them. What is the best transition then? Hydras with +2 attack?
I played this build for the first time. Went 4 zergling at 24. Executated it quite OK. Unfortunatelly when I arrived with my roaches my opponent had already 2 void rays with 2 other popping a few seconds into my attacked. It failed really bad and he already build 3rd nexus, while I was on two hatches. After failed attack I quickly build queens and spores and managed to defend his counterattack without too much damage. But his macro was way too ahead and at my level I wasn't able to catch up and lost. I think this build isn't too great against protos, since the meta even at lower leagues is void rays. Played this at MMR at 3080.
@@HuShang I am Plat 2 right now, but started at gold 3 a month ago. Pretty much all protos I played go for pure sky toss. I am struggeling against max out toss. I thought early agression and not allowing toss to max out should be the key. Ehat build would you suggest against toss? Saw lowko going for 12 pools against toss, but I dont really feel like rushing that early.
No b*llshit, I'm in gold 1 already only using this build, transitioning to hydras later if necessary, with a few minor tweaks after scouting... which, by the way, I was only able to do after silver 2 or so... thanks for these videos, they're awesome!
finally a good BO explanation with infos, icons, big text animated, and correct explanation.. yes my lord. I am plat 1 bwt is it worth? I'm playing very eco BO with def 5 queens and double evo 5mn 4:30 lair 3rd at 2:19 @30 pop² ??
I think this build won't be that good in platinum 1, that's pretty much the limit. You'd better off using one of my other more macro zerg build order guides!
Silver-ish league and I'm so focused on trying to get a balance between supply and resources. At what point would you stop training roaches and move on to bigger stuff like vipers and hydra/ultra?
6:40 you build infestation pit, when it completes - hive, when it completes - ultralisk cavern - when it completes - make ultras to get to 200 supply, then attack. I wouldn't mess with vipers below diamond. Hope this helps, saying this as a diamond player myself
and remember that against protoss ultras suck pretty hard, so you should stick to roach/hydra + some corruptors/vipers to counter colossus if you see some
for low level (and also high level) compositions against the three races look for lambo's youtube guide: "Ultimate Zerg Unit Composition Guide - Zerg Academy"
Really nice guide man. You specify that this would be good for gold, as a plat zerg trying to get into diamond, what would you do differently to adjust to the higher skilled players? My guess would be to take a 3rd and build a hydra den after the timing attack if it doesn't kill the enemy right?
To get to diamond you need to start playing much more similar to high level players. The standard is to take a fast 3rd and drone at a higher pace which is safe if you incorporate good scouting. I think a more standard ZvT build order guide but you'll have to dig a bit because it's quite a ways back (still up to date though)
@@HuShang Thank you for your response. I played quite a few games earlier using this build as a foundation and changing it up a bit depending on what the enemy is going and when they're taking their 3rd. The general idea of making units for a timing attack has definitely improved my game a lot more (especially for zvz, this build is awesome) as it seems harassment and scouting were huge weaknesses for me, so thank you for giving me something to work with 😊
Say i’m playing zerg with a similar early expand and i scout that the enemy may be doing a roach timing attack like this. What is the zvz counterplay here?
Can you make a guide for late game Zerg play? Lately I find myself in a lot of macro games and I struggle a lot as Zerg given their super limited turtle capabilities, especially against Terrans.
@@TheFrogsmog The game is player at faster not normal speed. Other than that, you can post your replay in my discord server and ask someone to check it out for you :)
my hotkeys are all sorts of weird; im a protoss player and all my hotkeys are bound likewise (for example drones are e for me instead of d and since I build so many lings q is my ling key.)
You can either sack all the roaches for worker kills and transition or you can add in overseer scouting before you commit to building roaches and in this case just skip them and go muta/hydra/ dronespore etc
It's okay sometimes. When you use it more than once it doesn't begin creating larva until after the first inject is complete. Essentially it doesn't create more larva, but you don't need to inject the hatchery for longer. Early game it's not good because you'd rather use the energy to spread creep or inject a different hatchery
In the lower leagues the strategy/unit counters aren't really very important. You will do fine with this build because you'll have so much more stuff. Just run your roaches in and kill all of their workers as you tech up to something that will kill their units like corruptor for BC or hydra for voidrays.
you already lost in many cases like me, e.g.: dark templar, battlecruiser, you have no detector in your base, 6mins seems enough for one bc, and one bc is close to enough to destroy your base, and Terran can have mediev in your main base, you have no anti-air.
The video starts a little too advanced. I’m just trying to learn how to grab workers to build things lol. Surely you don’t always have to pick them 1 by 1
how do you make roaches without selecting larva? are they any hotkeys to do so? i waste so much time clicking on everything, hatchery, larvas, everything and you do that actions without even selecting stuff just hotkeys. how??
Put your hatcheries on a control groups, for example #4. To do that click on a new hatchery and either cntrl + 5 to make a new one or shift + 5 to add to it. Then just 5 -> s for larva -> d for drones
Thank you for all the guides, I m toss since broodwar. I play for fun, and what a great fun it is : p for couple of seasons ladder has been really confusing. I played placement match with Terran and lost all but one game and it put me in masters. I main Protoss and it’s in silver, my highest rank was in plat 1, now I play in silver vs bronze and masters. I struggle mostly with terrans. So I started going robo for obs and twilight for blink. I know I suck at micro and over producing probes but the biggest issue for me is scout Terran and defending bc, sometimes mine fields. So I try to distribute defences evenly across 3 bases but Terran just play me like a fiddle. In the end it’s turrets all over the map and towers to spot almost whole map. Do you have video for that or a tip I could watch? I mainly want to know what is better in this situation. 3 base vs 3 base do I build double stargate for voids, or continue upgraded stalker with blink, should I build canons and shielbatteries and how much is enough. The thing in lover leagues that they know to build expo and lots of workers, so in the end they have the bank for making their own vision of sc true. Give them 14 mins and they will be doing mass something all over the map. Don’t get me wrong I really like this, I remember wol times I started in bronze and quickly became silver and soon after gold to just have a knowledge to build my first pylon, gate, gas and cyber even forgetting second pylon didn’t mater too much then in bronze to gold. Now I see every other game cheese with proxies or fast expand eco builds in silver. That’s great because playing with active opponents teaches you be active yourself. I think all this guides helps making Starcraft great and much more fun to play vs wol when you ended up in gold and every game is 1 or 2 base all ins now we can have it in bronze already. Sorry for the rant ;) wanted to thank you again and wish you the best!
I have some pvt guides around and also the gameplays playlist where you can find some examples of pvt. Those should help to give you some perspective. The two main styles in pvt are 1) 2 gate blink -> 3rd base 2) 2 gate stargate -> robo -> robo bay -> 3rd base Come join us on discord and there are some nice folks that can give you some additional pointers!
Tower rush everything, get in build a drone or to till you can build a crystal and forge as ur doing that ur running a drone towards their base, set a crystal a screen a way and towers at it, then move up till I block em in lol.
Are you waiting longer than shown in the video to attack? If you're pushing on time then it should only be 1-2 air units so you can still push, do damage and then transition into a few anti-air units.
@@HuShang im a bit later because you are hella fast, i lost 5 and won 1 so far but ill keep training. I always get clapped by counter attacks with air units. Thanks for the tuts btw :)
Hey Umberto, come join us on the discord if you need help :) discord.gg/pPhaEk9 Q: hotkeys all the army automatically A: Not possible to do it automatically. Select the units you want then cntrl + #(create new) or shift + #(add to existing)
I'm having a little trouble against protoss, because of their air units. Roaches can only attack ground units so when the protoss ships come my roaches just stare at them while being crushed ;-;
Use mass queens + spores for early defense. Then switch to hydra. But if they are massing void rays then their defense are probably nonexistent, thats why you go nydus their ass

I’m sorry but if you think have battlecruisers warping around to the spacey parts of the map he can huddle in behind your base in minutes from game start is ok, there’s something wrong. Starcraft was much better before they started everyone off mid game. Shits stupid.
Just did this build and beat my diamond friend....granted he’s a few years rusty and didn’t know what shield batteries were and forgot adepts existed...

@@HuShang I think the build order is nice but you shouldn't really advertise it as a timing attack that will end your games most of the time, because even following it perfectly it will almost never work that way even at the lowest elo... I think advertising it as a solid macro start that is relatively safe (as long as you scout an expo) is more accurate, but it will almost never just end the game for you from my experience. I tried it about 10 times and got close to it working more than once (it honestly worked better vs plat/gold players in my placements than vs bronze once I was placed), but people play REALLY safe at low elo, and will definitely have something to match a push like this.
@@HuShang i mean economy part is very good but roaches? they get rekt pretty easily against terrant who just build some air units , add here few tanks and you're done. i was forced to build coruptors or muta every time to win if at all
