Hi and thanks for your feedback! I would recommend a federsword for (advanced) fencing. Looks similar to a "real" sword except the blade. The difference is: The blade flexes while thrusting. It's the most common training tool for longsword in HEMA and most tournaments are fought with it. We use a lot of federswords from Peter Regenyei at our club, we know him and therefore can recommend his work (but there are of course some other great smiths out there!). However I would recommend a wooden sword or a nylon waster for beginners, as both are much cheaper. You can find protective gear as well as training weapons (for example) on blackarmoury.com One more thing: No matter what simulator you choose: If you want to train with it, please buy (at least!) a 1600n fencing mask and gloves first (and tell your training partners that they should wear some as well)!

Oh that is easy. Years of chaotic fencing-club-environment have turned Gedi into the perfect victim for attacks on his mind. The words "we should do a meeting about it", will leave him frightened and defeated. :)

When we speak of medieval European swords, the Oakeshott typology is very common for the classification of sword types: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakeshott_typology

The sword in the intro and for the cutting is the same, it is a sharp version of EP44, from arma bohemia; www.armabohemia.cz/DE/swordsA.htm ; maybe when you buy it it´s not sharp enough. It is a light sword with a diamond diameter, thats better for thrusting then for cutting.

Mark Suchentrunk I've looked up the model of the sword you told me but unfortunately it isn't the same. :/ In the intro, the blade has a fuller and has a different guard in which the fuller continjes and the tips of the guard waves upwards then downward

Hi, ja das ist leider ein Problem. Genau deswegen haben wir ursprünglich mit unserem Tutorial begonnen. Was wir allerdings empfehlen können wären Fechtevents, bei denen es einzelne Workshops zu unterschiedlichen HEMA Bereichen gibt. Schaut mal bei einem solchen vorbei. Da lernt man gleich neue Leute kennen und sieht was es alles so gibt. Eine Übersicht zu den größeren Events findet sich hier: www.hemaalliance.com/events/ Ansonsten einfach den nächsten Club in eurer Region anschreiben und die fragen ob etwas in der Gegend geplant ist.

Hmmm, the term "bastardsword" is an outdated term used to describe longsword-type swords (like the ones we are using). So basically it is the same.

You can practice this with a bastard sword as well.

This way you should be on the safe side... :)

of course there are more great techniques out there, however we decided to stick with the most basic moves, so that people can start with these 20 episode on their own. good observation! the legs are valid targets, however it is very dangerous for yourself, and there are very, very few historical techniques aimed with the sword to the legs. There are some kicks, but if you go down with your blade, you open yourself up for a strike to the head. So it is possible, but in most situations you will get a double hit. And assuming it would be a sharp weapon, there is no draw... ;)

yes there are. It can happen; usually when the blades of both swords are in contact (binding) . It is uncommon, that both tips facing downwards in this situation, but it is possible. However, you would usually go upstairs again to attack the upper body parts. I would recommend watching some HEMA tournament fights. There you can see a lot of historical techniques (adapted to a sports-ruleset). Usually if one goes down, the other is going up. Buuuut, that being said, in a fight, everything can happen! :)
