We've all been there wondering how to decline an invitation to an event that we don't want or can't go to. Saying "no" is not always easy, especially if you are afraid of hurting other people's feelings. Honesty is always the best policy, so it's usually better to decline the invitation and honestly (but politely) explain why you can't attend the event. For example, if you don't care about watching a show that a work colleague invited you to, tell him that it's usually not a good idea. But being honest with them and saying it's none of your business is much more polite and doesn't hurt their feelings. When politely declining an offer, it is usually better to use one of these reasons listed below and then say "But thanks for the offer!" or "but thanks for thinking of me!". This makes a polite refusal even more respectful and demonstrates a new level of care for the person whose invitation you decline.
