I have seen Eurasian Oystercatchers several times in Tokyo Bay in winter. The distribution map of oystercatchers you prepared was very easy to understand. Thanks to you, it was a good opportunity to study about Oystercatchers. What a useful program!

Thanks for watching! That is interesting - those Eurasians must have a huge range. Had a chance to see an American oystercatcher very briefly. But really enjoyed hanging out with these ... It is always a treat to get to sit down and study a species over a season.

I'm currently sitting exchanging calls with three of them right now! I'm in the south west of Scotland in hospital and they appear to be nesting on the roof. They keep swooping down but only one is brave enough to walk near me so far.

Thank you for the video! We watched one foraging along the coast of Savary Island this afternoon. I've been aware of these birds for a long time but never had the opportunity to view one in its natural habitat.

I really liked this video, with a lot of information about the species; I also liked that you named the other species. Casually a few months ago I made a video with the three South American species that luckily I was able to see. This oystercatcher closely resembles our black oystercatcher, which lives in Patagonia.

Good luck to you! Most of this footage is from Miracle Beach PP ... which was pretty much my favorite spot on Vancouver Island ... Miss it 😢

@@SeantheBioBro Hello Sean, thanks for asking. In the Netherlands, the Oystercatcher has been named bird of the year. They live mainly along the coastal areas and adjacent polders. They are not doing well here and are increasingly moving to urban areas. There are around 35.000 breeding pairs and 160.000 hibernators. In my nature reserve there are only a few at the borders. Thanks for your interest!! Greetings Gijs

I really like oystercatchers. I must say the black oystercatcher is even more beautiful than the Eurasian. I have always loved the sharp contrast between the bill and the body. Young me particularly loved how easy they are to distinguish from any other species.

I was very interested to read about the other species ... I've seen American a couple times but haven't spent much time with them. I am still blown away by the small population estimate ... Meaning seeing 10 birds is 0.1% of their population 🤯🤯🤯🤯

2 They're not really weird for me because I would see them (the Eurasian species) regularly as I was growing up.
