Learning: Step 1: Identify the worst thing you need to improve. Step 2: Just focus on improving that single one until it got good enough. Step 3: Goto Step 1.

It’s so important ,in the beginning, to have actual light and safe sparring sessions in order to hammer out the weaknesses that are in focus.

Your intro always gets me pumped up. If people get "bored" with it then find a 5 second tiktoc video for viewing. You rock man. Keep it up

Have you come across liberation martial arts? Its run by Sam from the Southpaw podcast, and i think theres a lot of crossover for how you teach. All about keeping the brain between bored or stressed, known as play so the brain can learn the best. Would love to hear an interview between you and them.

+1 to @maniblondelly I got to train a bit with Sam in person, really made me a believer in the psychological sweet spot between ease and pressure

Four stages of competence: Find one thing that you suck at, unconscious incompetence, that you want to be better at, conscious incompetence, intentionally work at it, conscious competence, until it becomes automatic, unconscious competence. Sometimes someone else will tell you exactly what that is, recently my footwork got picked apart, so I've got an agility ladder, video camera, a book & videos, and lots of time planned to work at it.

This is so true. As a law student myself I discover this technique while I was studying for the exam. I used to hate the evidence law so I use pomodoro technique trying to study less but add it day by day. I didn't notice this could apply to my martial art training too. Thank you. This is really helpful.

This was great! I have a hard time with the fact that I'm always messing up, even simple things like my footing and keeping my hands up. But I'll see if there's something I'm good at so I can utilize this method.

Anybody else feel like their coach is on the negative side while you’re drilling on the floor? In terms of correcting the room. “Don’t do this” “Don’t do that” Like, just a little too much? Maybe I’m being soft about it
@slingman6
@slingman6 Месяц назад
Nah, you're right. Negative feedback isn't the same as corrective feedback. For example, "Don't lean on your jab" isn't the same as "step further on the jab" - to correct an sub-optimal behavior, you have to replace it with a better one

Gabriel, since you cant condition parts of your body like the liver, sternum/solar plexus and kidneys how would you suggest dealing with people who like to go for those shots in sparring?

Very useful video Gabriel, thank you so much for this, exactly what I was looking for I will be sure to add the flow state to my training Gabriel, even tho I did not get overwhelmed when learning something new I saw that sometimes I would forget something I really practiced and then started utilizing the flow state of things when shadow boxing without adding the negative element of my arsenal, so after hearing your addition to the flow state when shadowboxing or practicing along what you are already good at and to implement aomething that you are bad at is something I found very useful Gabriel! 🥊🎉

Thank you so much for this vid. This is exactly where I’ve been for 8-9 years. Constantly criticizing when training and it’s made me feel stuck. Having that balance of knowing what you’re bad at AND good at is really helping. Thank you!

This is basically the approach I have. I'll have a sparring day. I'll recognize what I did well and what fell short, then for the next week or so, I'll practice practice practice the things I was falling short on.... by the next sparring day, I'm nailing the technique over and over again. Focus on your weak points so they become your strengths
