In today's lesson, we'll dive into the exciting realm of quintuplets with our "Quintuplet Flam Spree" a perfect flam exercise for beginners. This rhythm-packed adventure is designed to make learning quintuplets a breeze while having a ton of fun along the way. Quintuplets are a standard rhythm in marching and drum corps drumming so be sure to get these down!

If you extend the check pattern to four beats you can throw in all the 4 note rudiments with right and left lead. For example: four beats of check pattern then five paradiddles repeat on the other hand. Fun way to challenge yourself.

I was taught that in Indian drumming (Tabla etc.) they count 5;s as "TA KA TA KI TA" which I think also works pretty well

What makes it a "shopping spree" the check pattern and the constant pulse?

Hi @aldeanLeger from my knowledge it was what drumlines called an exercise consisting of lots of rudiments placed after each other with a constant check pattern to return to. No idea who "invented it" From there others did different versions until it became a "thing" I was taught the "shopping" reference was like going through a store throwing stuff in a trolley, 'Can of flam drags', 'case of paradiddles' etc. lol

@@FreestyleRudiments I marched 5 seasons in the Freelancers hornline back in the 80's. I loved hearing those check pattern warmups in the distance like war drums or something. I dig your breakdowns keep up the great work.

@FreestyleRudiments From what I understand it's a term that came back in the old days of drum corps where the groups wanted to have an exercise where they were jamming harder and harder rudiments into it. The members would be "shopping" for harder and harder rudiments so the first iteration was called a "shopping spree" as the members writing it went on a shopping spree for hard rudiments to jam in there
