I got bored after the first five minutes. I don’t have a small attention span usually, but the video itself isn’t very interesting. This girl is just repeating the same points over and over in different words Besides, one sided conversations aren’t very fun to participate in. I want to chip in and talk to this person irl. Watching Somebody talking alone to themselves through a screen sucks

I'm not muslim I'm not religious at all but i really like how empathethic you are towards others and your points are absolutely true, it's also extremely difficult to escape this kind of living rn, society and social media fuel a cycle of depression - too much dopamine that's so difficult to break even if you're conscious it exists. Your message of doing nothing and sitting with yourself, which I think we're the first generation at all who has completely cut out those moments, is incredible

5:20 I've always wondered why Tumblr feels slow paced and not as addictive as other apps. I think it has something to do with its design, you don't really have algorithm, you only get posts from the people you follow, so mostly stuff you will like seeing. There are also a lot of long text posts compared to other apps, from random fun educational facts to book reviews to stories and ponderings. The whole app culture feels slower paced and the people there seem to have more patience. You don't feel exhausted from using it in my experience. It feels like all the university/college students, science nerds, authors, artists and geeks jumbled up in one place and it's great lol :) Though now what's happening to twitter and reddit tumblr has started to make changes to look more mainstream. Most users don't like the change.

This is something I've been really getting a larger understanding of lately and it's quite terrifying just how much we've been affected by all of this overstimulation. I love how genuine and real you come across in this, I feel like it's not seen as much on these platforms. You're so right! It's really scary to look around and see everyone on their phone. I feel like we're becoming robots without minds and the only thing we know is social media 😭. I'm concerned about the content on social media. How do people even post that awful content? Why do they post it? Why do others like it? I once read in a book that people ignore and want to forget their problems and not deal with them even though dealing with them is easier than ignoring them. I think social media makes it easy to ignore problems and feel happy. People are addicted to it because they "can't" find happiness in their life.

I can really relate to this. I think the biggest loss, of the many, is how quickly time goes by when you spend so much of it on your phone. I basically found a way to make my life work, but it comes at an expense

It’s tricky because we learn so much from social media, yet as they say, too much of anything is a bad thing. Learning how to balance screen time and spending time with the self is important. I struggle with excessive screen time and constantly needing to feel mentally stimulated, and I think this stems from “if I’m not on my phone, I’m missing out on information.” I’m working on shifting this idea.

Its the kids I feel sorry for the most. You see them out in a pushchair when theyre clearly of walking age, playing on their tablet and having no interraction with their parents. They're missing out on the world and I cant imagine how mentally ill theyre going to be when they grow up. As for us, we are also spending too much time missing out. I have nothing to do tomorrow so Im going to have a day off my phone and see where it takes me. I really needed this video, thank you❤ But most importantly, never apologise for crying. Just how we've lost our way through technology we have lost our way trying to be emotionless super humans like robots. Crying is an important emotion and we need to do more of it as a society instead of pretending to be all fun and happy all the time. It's good to see someone showing true emotion online, speaking at a normal volume at a steady pace and saying something real.

I thought it was just me being Autistic, but I've been thinking these things since I've had social media. I honestly thought it was me not getting it or something. I realised I used it cause I wanted to be physically alone but needed something to keep me constantly doing something. You're right, silence, stillness, feels so so uncomfortable in today's social media/tech age. I stopped using all social media for over 4 months and experienced everything you spoke about. All of those things I was avoiding popped up. My interests changed, my view on life and myself changed. I found out I was decent at painting, I started playing my guitar every day, I started writing...a lot. A lot. I cut people off, I gained new people. I have a valuable offline life and I really don't enjoy social media. I feel now that it's performative. It forces you to be performative and makes you feel like you have to live this life that's valid of posting. You see others perfected versions, you compare. You see something great followed by the worst thing you've ever seen, that you'd never have seen if you weren't scrolling. People aren't their real selves online. We get the worst parts of humanity on there because people feel safe behind a screen (whether people admit that or not). It's not real. The thing that always kills me the most...is social media relationships. Or people who post every second of their relationship. That's not what relationships are, they're supposed to be something that you share with the person you're with. Not a performative action so you look good next to your friends engagement pics or new baby pics or their relationship. Same for parents. Why are they posting every private precious moment of their innocent child's life? Babies have 0 privacy from the moment they come out of the womb. It's not just that, but predators are smart and they are evil. Does no one care anymore about protecting people they love? In all those moments you're not thinking of your child or your partner, you're thinking 'i need to show everyone how good my life is on social media'. That's putting something fake above what's real and right Infront of you. We are teaching kids that life looks like that. When real life doesn't even come close. Real life is so much more beautiful and nuanced and messy. To me social media feels like the worst parts of highschool. It's social climbing, fake validation, bullies, mobs, my tribe Vs your tribe on steroids. You've got grandmother's arguing in Facebook comment sections as if they're on the playground. It's a whole mess.

Honestly, i love the way you talk and your videos really help me to think of life in a much different perspective. Im only 14, and in the 8th grade, and next year ill be in the 9th grade (In Sha Allah). I feel like this whoke year has been really great for me, i went to a lot of dofferent places and really bonded w my family in a way I've never bonded before. I guess its just the realisation of how grateful i truly am to have everyone in my life. But ever since my finals started, ive started feeling a bit weird. I studied really hard for the subjects i was bad at and yet i still did terrible on the exams. I constantly feel like time is going slower. I dont do anything anymore since i have exams now and i know i should be studying, but sometimes it just gets too boring. Im constantly in my room either laying down or looking at my reflection and trying to "perfect" my flaws and what-not. Its become so frequent, i know that itll end once my results come in, and I'm hobestly really scared i might not di well. I even started praying and focusing on my Deen, obviously not just for my exams cause that would be selfish, I've prayed to Allah for manu other things. Idk where im going with this but all im trying to say is that i feel like im in constant boredom and now even my phone isnt helping😭😭

I haven't finished the video but I just want to give a take on the whole "knowing what someone is doing is not useful, not mindful*". Like sometimes I don't want to be mindful about things and I think that's fine. We don't have to be intentional about everything all of the time. I get why you talked about this kind of habit on the video but I personally think that if you're not spending way too much time online it's ok to just check and see what people are doing just because. You know? We don't always need a good reason to do something, we can just chill from time to time and that's fine!

Ive felt the exact same way you described about it but couldn't seem to do anything about it because I thought it wasn't as important. but it is. I feel like people like you and i were meant to be born in a different generation. The concept of just existing and actually living mindfully sounds so foreign to a good amount of young people these days. It's so easy to pick up the phone and mindlessly scroll. This week I've fallen victim to the scrolling again due to starting over and moving. I'm just noticing all the negative impact it has had on my life , my attitude, even my relationships others and self. It does more harm then good just like a drug that I don't want to relapse on again. From here on out I plan on detoxing from social media. whether that means cutting back slowly, or stopping all together. because i know i haven't been giving myself my fullest attention or energy. Farah I don't usually comment on videos but I have to say you really inspired me to be more cautious with my time and not only that but to also be a better Muslim. Thank you so much for your amazing content.

I've been watching RU-vid since it started and I've noticed i slowly stopped using the search bar, sure i use it every now and again for more specific videos but now i mainly watch what i the algorithm shows if it interests me then pretty quickly i just get stuck for a hour or so scrolling watching videos of pointless crap I'd never watch a few years ago. I also have to stop myself from commenting on the pointless videos which is addicting too.

I agree that your phone can be a huge distractor and turn you into a zombie: and I've noticed it myself. I've been thinking for a couple months now to switch to a flip phone and just use my laptop for learning and texting.

Do it. Definitely. I'm going to do it myself soon. Flip phones are so cute anyway. Smart phones are like a symbol of how soulless everything has become. Not only do they look all the same with no unique quirks, they also suck your life away and get you wanting more and more through the content they show you

Last night I went to a restaurant and there was a large group of friends sitting beside me. I kid you not… all on their phones the entire time. I barely heard them say one word to each other. It was insane

I've seen you on Instagram . But I'm sooo grateful To Allah that I found this vedio of yours and channel on top of that . Since last month I've been trying to bring my life together and I didn't know how to but I still kept trying . The one thing I noticed in this vedio is how sameee and exact our thoughts are but I could never describe them better than you . 🤚🏻😭 I'll keep watching every vedio of yours from now on In Sha Allah 💗 THANK YOU SOO MUCH

Lady, your video popped up and there are some of us who have never had social media and I have not watched television for 20 years 😊I only like RU-vid so that I can learn some good things 😊and meditation is a practice that many have acquired to discipline themselves consistently with ❤

You have some great points. I think that the brain numbing effect can be a bit refreshing(in a sense) after a long day of work/school/etc.

other than social media having a factor in this i think it’s also important to realize how much capitalism pushed the narrative of being busy 24/7 and how that’s the only way to be “productive” more than it jus being a human choice i think it’s also the fact that there’s many systems and things that we’ve been taught at a young age that leads to us living this plugged in and always on the go life style
