I have managed to do a first-page-drawing in my sketchbook! Hurrah! Yippie! I have allowed myself to make an ugly drawing and it worked! I am actually quite pleased with myself, it turned out quite good. - - - Hmmmh ... and I now have a new problem because of it!! It's because, I do feel now, that my next drawing needs to be at least as good as the first one! I don't want to spoil my sketchbook ...

I'm not gonna lie, I think I'm more nervous to start drawing in my sketchbook then I realize 😅

I always start on a random page, and at some point later make the first page a 'title' page or cover page ❤

Normal. I used to start my first page with the Year and 12 balloons. The 12 balloons colored in with the 12 paints in my pallet. A lot of folks draw their pallet and paint in the wells or draw their kit components. I saw one with a world map (continent) outline of where the person was going to be doing drawings.

Me too…I don’t want to mess up my book…so I never start. Tried once or twice long ago and it was quite fun. 😁

I’m so grateful to have found your page. I drew the loose figures last night and was so surprised I got the hang of it pretty easily. So I’ll be learning a lot from you going forward.

I'm nearer 70 than 60 and have decided that I want to start sketching. I'm still working and have just started carving, but want another hobby that's good for hand eye co-ordination and something that I can do in the winter months. I've watched a few of videos from Toby and I'm going to go over some videos again and bite the bullet and get some supplies. My main concerns. Can can I draw, no. Am I confident enough to start, I hope so. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and passion in a way that doesn't presume your audience is at the top of their game.

Just what I needed. Went out yesterday thinking I would do some sketching. It didn’t happen. I think I get to concerned on the finished product rather than the process.

That was really brave of you. My first venture out was yesterday and I was not brave enough to leave my front gate. bu instead I sketched my home from the garden.

Some great tips, my main "stopping point" is inspiration as to what to draw / sketch, and starting to put pen to paper. 😀

My main problem is actually getting off my butt and doing it. I woke up this morning determined to get started. I picked out a sketchbook, I filled up my fountain pens and watched the first video in the ten day sketching course then the day just drifted away from me…….

Hi Toby, thank you so much for another great informative video, you have really helped me develop me passion and looseness when it comes to watercolour and now I have added line too and i love it! I really loved the flower sketches you briefly shown, i would love it if you could ever find time to do a video on sketching more florals in your style. Thank you for all of your wonderful videos! Ive also signed up to your skillshare page now also. Have a wonderful 2024!

serious question - is it better to draw 10 minutes a day or 3 hours a week? (that could mean only 1 day a week)
@TobySketchLoose
@TobySketchLoose 4 месяца назад
I think more frequent is better - we solidify skills, knowledge and motor skills in our sleep. For me I would feel more improvement drawing little and often. I have no science to back this up though!
@SusanHamby-i6t
@SusanHamby-i6t 22 дня назад
@@TobySketchLoose Actually, the science does back you up, Toby. "Spaced practice" works best for every subject. I used to teach, and I've read some of that research!
