I enjoy big planes a lot more than fighters. They're so relaxing to fly, meditative almost. C-47 has always been one of my favorites.

Yeah the way this one just lumbers along makes for a very chill flight, right up until a fighter blasts you or flak starts kicking off everywhere lol

I've been waiting for this beauty to go on sale for awhile which it just did on Steam. I really am excited to try a different approach to this game in that the C-47 excelled at being a workhorse for supply drops, hauling cargo, and paratrooper drops. On a more technical point, I have a throttle quadrant controller that'll be really nice to separately control the engines. While not a fighter or even bomber the C-47 was perhaps the MOST important plane the Allies had from a logistical standpoint. On a side note my German mom was friends with another German lady that was from Berlin. She lived through the battle, and President Truman's 'Operation Vittles' that kept Berlin alive after Stalin tried starving it. She remembered the endless formations of C-47's bringing in food and even hauling coal to keep Berliners from freezing. She remembered the C-47 pilots and crew making little parachutes with handkerchiefs and dropping candy and chocolate bars to the children while flying over. Decades later she reunited with one of the pilots that started the entire candy drop operation. She emotionally told him just how much that little gesture on the part of the pilots and crew gave her and other children hope in the ruins of postwar Berlin. The C-47 wasn't just a plane-it represented liberation, salvation and friendship on the part of the US not to just Berlin postwar, but to nearly every continent during WW2.

I hope you enjoy it. The C-47 has a great feeling of flight to it, so it makes for a refreshing change in it compared to the fighters/bombers

The Trail function on the Cowl flaps does work, you just need to set the cowl flaps to Auto control which from memory is by pressing LALT+O

Been watching a lot of your vids, mate. I have DCS and love it but you've sold me on IL-2, it looks fun as hell and a little less serious than DCS. So I've splurged on a few things in the sale (Stalingrad, Bodenplatte, Cliffs of Dover, few campaigns) and I'm looking forward to giving it a whirl.
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL Год назад
They're both great in their own right but I look at Il-2 and DCS in a simple way when it comes to WWII warbirds. If I want to fly a WWII airplane I'll fly DCS, but if I want to fly in WWII I'll fly Il-2 because multiplayer is objectively much better there. The feeling of flight is great in both, but for me the main difference is that Il-2 aircraft are a little too stable (not needing much rudder while flying generally) while DCS warbirds are a little too unstable (rudder is needed but the effect of yaw on lateral stability is too much).
@PluckyUnderdog

@The Air Combat Tutorial Library that's a good way of putting it. I love it so far, both sims compliment each other perfectly, I think.

11:11 What do you mean by "we want to accelerate to our 'single engine' climb speed of 120mph" ? I don't understand the "single engine" part of this statement.
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL Год назад
If you lost an engine then 120mph is the minimum controllable airspeed you should fly at to overcome the left/right turning tendency produced by the remaining engine. This kind of thing is covered in my multi engine specific videos

Do you do the checklists yourself or is there a database somewhere? I have the spec lists of every plane but there is no checklist like how much flaps is needed for landing etc.

Thank you for this great content. I have a question, you said take off power 46’ but you set it at 50’ on takeoff why?, what’s the correct procedure ? Thanks
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL Год назад
The RL manual states 46" but I was carrying a full load of paratroopers so I just went full throttle which will give you 50" At lighter loads you could even use less power if you wanted, but you'll just use more runway

Despite the keys being shown it should be known that the pilot has no ability to individually toggle the autopilot channels. Only on/off is functional.
