Small note, it's an air-fuel mixture not a fuel-air mixture gauge. The higher reading is more air per unit fuel, more lean, mixture reduction. This will confuse if expressed. And I wouldn't recommend start or taxi at anything except minimum pitch (max RPM). I have no idea why the game initializes pitch to full coarse. Lastly while the white bulbs show centered trim on each axis those are not very good for takeoff. Rudder should be at least 20% left (it defaults to about this much) and more pitch up trim is helpful. In the real plane as flown by women early in the war it was standard practice to have a crew member physically assist the pilot in pulling back on the control yoke during rotation.

Thank you very much. This guide has helped me a lot. I also saw your Level bombing tutorial for Pe-2. This is very helpful. Do you have a tutorial for Dive bombing in Pe-2?
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 4 года назад
No I don't have a dive bombing tutorial for the Pe2 yet. The red lines on the side window are your dive angle indicators though

The RPM controls are a pain in the 35. Gotta wait for muh RPM lol

Yeah it's such a slowwwww process. It's the worst if you forget to do it during the taxi then you power up on the runway and realise it....ahh bugger!

another good one. Do you have any 'out-takes'? or do your tutorials go so well? (Tongue in cheek).

I'm not perfect of course so sometimes it will take a few attempts to get the video how I want, but these airplane tutorial videos are the easiest to do. I'm usually happy with it with less than 10 attempts at flying it around, but doing them definitely has become easier since I became a RL pilot though :-)

Good stuff, as usual. . . Couple of ideas: 1. Suggest crucial key bindings. I.E. if it is really useful for taxiing, should I have each throttle on separate axis? I have a light aircraft clone throttle with throttle/speed/mixture but it might be better on twin engine IL-2 planes to lose the speed or mixture and get the engines on a separate axis. 2. Pattern landings. Everybody should practice this, but in the game. . . for example if you have to land at an airfield that is under attack you will want a combat approach. So maybe a video on "overhead break" and other combat landing techniques. (I was once on a Argentinian Navy Viscount that did combat landings at various small airports working up from Tierra del Fuego to Buenas Aires. Kind of exciting in a plane that was notorious for losing wings early in its career. Long story.) 3. Something general on touch-and-go. Seems like a good way to practice approaches without having to fully land, taxi, then take off again.

1. Kinda depends on the plane Guard. The Pe-2s you can get away with just using differential braking but the German airplanes your life is made easier when taxiing to use engines separately. As long as you're in no rush you can just use the 1 or 2 key to select an engine while taxiing. 2. I have a video on my channel for the "Overhead break" but I've known it as an "Initial and Pitch" 3. If I can get around to some of the more simple flying aspects I can get touch and goes in there. Not sure it will happen right awy though

Thanks for the response, Requiem. I will check out the video. (#2) The rest - probably not all that worth while for a video on touch-and-go. Actually reminded of the subject when you mentioned practicing touch-and-go on one of your live stream videos.

Just FYI "Overhead Break" is a more modern expression, military (maybe predominantly U.S. Air Force/Navy military). I.E. just because I have heard it a time or two does not mean it is in general circulation.

Kinda loading this up - don't actually know how common "overhead break" is. Somewhat similar to the "Fan Pitch" variation in your video. Only reference with legitimacy it is "overhead approach" - don't know whether links are allowed. . . It refers to "Aeronautical Information Manual (5-4-27) Overhead Approach Maneuver". Cfinotebook dot net, www.cfinotebook.net/notebook/aircraft-operations/approaches/overhead-approach-maneuver Seems to be geared toward air traffic controllers, probably U.S.

Friend of mine apparently heard you ended up getting your commercial licence. Is that true? If so, what are you flying right now for work? Edit: NVM, just checked the about section on your channel. Still flying the CRJ? It's a beautiful aircraft :)
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 7 лет назад
Hi Paint, yeah that's right! I had with my first proper flying lesson in January 2015 and then started training with my airline on the CRJ-900 in January 2017. It's been a relatively quick but awesome journey so far. I love flying the 900 and expect to fly it for a few years yet, but it doesn't feel like work though :-)

I'm so jealous! I just started training for my PPL last month. Been a life long dream of mine. I'm shocked that you went from your first lesson, to flying a CRJ in 2 years. How did you manage to get all of the ratings and your commercial so fast?
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 7 лет назад
It's a pretty crazy story to be honest...If you're interested in a detailed account I kept a blog of my flight training here: requiemstraining.wordpress.com/2014/12/15/ If not then here is the long story short...I'm forever grateful to an amazing couple of people who placed an incredible amount of faith in me to succeed in this career change, so I always ensured I work my tail off (and still do!) to show I'm worthy of that support. Without them I wouldn't have been able to sit in the CRJ cockpit today.

I checked out the link you posted. Definitely gonna read it start to finish. The events you discuss in your introduction are something I've only ever dreamed of while bored on the long hours of my crap job. From my experience so far, the hardest part of becoming a pilot is paying for the whole thing, so I'm rather jealous to be honest. Regardless, I appreciate you responding to my messages, and I hope things work out for you and your family!

Very nice videos. Excellent as always. P.s. Good for you for getting your licences. Congrats! I fly a Cessna 185 on floats for a living.

Thanks Hobo! I actually did a couple of seaplane videos in Rise of Flight a long time ago and those were great fun to fly. I'd love to get a seaplane rating one day :-) I haven't been flying in RL that long in the grand scheme of things. I started in Jan 2015 and got my ATP with an airline in April this year.

Thanks, I'd love to know what a real seaplane pilot thinks about them! Any critiques welcome if you wanted to PM as I'm always interested in learning more about it.

I still don't understand engine controls in il2, when i watch your video about rpm and i try it for myself it just goes wrong. When i change my prop pitch i instandly lose speed and crash or overheat. and the Same happend for mixture..
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 7 лет назад
You might have your controls mapped backwards or have multiple commands mapped to the same control on your joystick/throttle. It sounds like your are inadvertently cutting your mixture off or reducing RPM unintentionally. I would have to see a track recording of a flight to tell you exactly what the problem is.

Honestly it didn't feel that way to me when I landed it, but I'm only human so not all my landings are 100% perfect :-) I'll try better next time.
