When I painted florals in oil, I mostly used the side of the flat brush, preferring to using the flat versus the round. I also used the flat brush to paint in stems and even leaves.

Is it still possible to get that metallics set? I think you personally might have sold out the zen brushes 😁 Thanks for showing this flat brush method, I've never seen flowers done with anything but a round brush.

Hi Clarice! I recently started watching your videos and love them. I am struggling with the flat brush so I found some Zen 83 series. What series did you offer? Also, what is a scrub brush? I was a professional grower of cut flowers, selling bouquets, for 25 years. I know the shape, colors and individuality of hundreds of flowers. BUT putting them on paper is a whole different story. I LOVE watercolors - so suited to posies. Thank you for your videos. You'll make a watercolorist out of me yet.

Hi Mary! I paint for fun 🙂. The Zen brushes I used are their Black Tulip Collection. I just got their miniature brush set too, no videos on them as yet. Wateroclour is addictive and so therapeutic! You will love it.

The round is totally unnecessary, you can paint it all with the flat. Just use the chisel edge and corner of the brush. Vary the direction, edge, and pressure...pull, push, pull... pull, twist, pull... instant leaves and petals. With practice you can "flip" the side of a petal or leaf in a single stroke. A flat is actually more versatile than a round for stroke work and often gives much more organic shapes as well. Acrylic and oil painters use flats the majority of the time for florals.
