This vid will show you how to play the most popular picking patterns and help massively expand your repertoire. And If you can't sing, this vid should be of particular interest!
❤ your personal touch of teaching with a sense of humor. I kind of giggle (sorry } and learn a lot as a beginner. Thanks for the tips and encouragement 🌼 Ruth in Michigan USA a senior .
Really enjoying your teaching Rob, you’ve inspired me to pick up the guitar again and learn some new techniques. Love your down to earth approach too. Thanks!
Excellent friendly and real channel. Can you do pls do a tutorial of Streets of London, great song to play although I find the melody needs work to shine thru. Cheers
The problem I have with picking is that the chords have to be ultra clean -- you can't accidentally mute any strings, because there's no strum to cover up your screwed up chords. When you pluck an individual string, if that string is accidentally muted, it's going to be glaringly obvious, whereas if that one string is inside a strummed chord, you've got the noise of 5 other strings to cover it up. This makes fingerpicking a lot more frustrating for a beginner who can't always hit the chords properly with the fretting hand.
Start with simple chords. Am, Em, D etc. practice the pick without chords too; concentrate on the picking and timing. It will all come together with practice. 👍🏻
I REALLY like your "easy to listen to" style. It's really fun and you take your time with us. Very enjoyable and helpful instruction. Thanks! I will be watching all your videos, and will be looking at some of your previous finger picking videos.
Brilliant as always Rob, as a self-taught finger style player I have so many gaps and I learn something new almost every time I ‘tune in.’ Showing my age there. 😂 Happy new year. 👍😎☯️
Happy Christmas, Rob. Yet another brilliant lesson delivered in a relaxed, simple way which makes me wonder why other RU-vid instructors seem to make it so involved.
A very kind and happy Boxing Day to you Rob. "Feeling Groovy", by Paul Simon was the first song i learned in school, chosen by our 'hippy' chorus teacher, I think somewhere around 1974 when I was 11 or 12. Nice to finally see the chords ... we just sang it at the time. Love your introduction to finger picking using something besides Travis Picking. I wish each the best of years to come, love and music as the base and root!
I loved the Marc Bolan part and the Johnny Cash groove. When I first learned to fingerpick I couldn't do it slowly, which made me eventually overplay and leave no space. I often hear simple patterns (not that these are easy) and think how great they sound. Now I'm virtually relearning how to play slower with space and a regular pattern, so these lessons are great.
Groovy Christmas from Texas, Rob! I started teaching a grown grandkid to play several months back and ran across your channel whilst looking around for some good exercises and such for her. Dude, your delivery and content are as good as it gets on the YT!
Cheers my man happy new year .. windy and warm by chet would be a great tutorial from ur point of view or baby’s coming home chet played them brilliantly cheers … take care from Ireland .. I also love all rag time tunes .. thanks rob ur flying now lad your channel took off fair play great to see 🇮🇪🇮🇪🎸🎸🎸Brian
Happy Christmas, Rob. Thank you so much for your tutorials. You are such a great teacher. I had to give-up my guitar lessons a few moths ago because times are tough. I was sad about it until I came across your channel - it was meant to be! You're efforts are making my guitar playing so much easier and more fun.... In the future, could you do a tutorial for Proud Mary? Cheers. 🍻🥂🎄
Thanks again Rob for taking time to make these videos. I am just beginning to learn fingerstyle and these vids really help. I do struggle with getting my 2nd (ring) finger to work correctly, but I guess that is just constant practice and muscle memory. PS Love Chet Atkins!
Just to say your videos are really interesting and useful. One question, I recently attended a party with neighbours and as a surprise I was going to play a few tunes on my acoustic guitar, I managed the first one but felt not quite right. I did get an applause though. I then tried to play another one and things got worse. So I hopelessly give up, I put it down to nerves. However, I then realised that the alchol I has consumed had effected my focus. I would not recommend anyone trying this with strangers it is highly embarrassing. 😮 I was wondering if anyone else had tried this? 😊
Great job! But I have a question.... if I'm using pattern Root, G B E B G Root with 8th notes, it seems hard to start the next measure with a root note? Hope that question makes sense...1&2&3&4&..Maybe I need a couple of quarter notes? Tks!
Only problem is nylon strings , I can't buy yet another Guitar and my steel strings cut my fingers. I can play with thumb pick but the finger picks I can't get along with.
