You can also get barbless trebble hooks to note! Use a bit of thread / fishing elastic to hold the bait on! Then no worrying about barbs full stop

Hello Mrsmog, Glad you enjoyed the video 😊 We would advise waiting until cooler weather until you target pike. Pike are very fragile fish and catching them in the summer when oxygen levels are low and water temperatures are high can often end in fatalities. At it's highest you can fish for pike in 18/19°c so early or late summer is best they are more active hunters in the summer too I've caught more pike in summer but my biggest in winter so personal preference and confidence is key too your success 👊🏼

Great video. Can you tell me what landing net and bag you use in this vid?

Hello Paul, The rucksack is a Gardner Specialist rucksack. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/gardner-specialist-rucksack?queryID=96a394e9b8f4b1f53e2ceefd7d4cf4a7&objectID=52908&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Now the landing net is a bit more complicated 😆, it's a home made net of sorts. The mesh is a rubber fox mesh, the arms are from an Advanta 42 inch net, the pole is from prologic, the spreader block is also Advanta, and finally it has a trakker net float. The advanta PS folding rubber net is as close as you can get without being creative like me. regards Phil,

Hi, The rucksack was a Gardner rucksack, and a Drennan specialist Quiver. I've had both these items several seasons and they are still going stong, despite me probably over loading the rucksack at times 🤭 www.anglingdirect.co.uk/gardner-specialist-rucksack?queryID=c1cbedfe7808bba242e257f8e734c2f9&objectID=52908&indexName=live_ad_uk_products www.anglingdirect.co.uk/drennan-specialist-2-fishing-rod-compact-quiver?queryID=170b20ad6b5de58c87838249f0478218&objectID=64830&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Regards Phil,

How would I know if my local river has pike in it? I know the surrounding reservoirs do but not sure about the river. Also my local river is haveing some copper mineral run off from the old mines would fish be able to survive the river as I have been blanking for trout this summer and wondering if that would be a factor?
@williamgriffiths7154
@williamgriffiths7154 Год назад
When using stubby floats like in the video you lay them flat on the water at the point of cocking. When using slim slider type floats, should these also be layed flat on the water to the point of cocking or at a 45 degree angle. I’ve seen different anglers doing different things. Many thanks for the replies, tight lines.👍
@AnglingDirectTV
@AnglingDirectTV Год назад
Hi William, The shape/style of float depends on the type of river and strength of the flow. Fishing the floats slightly over depth in a river still gives perfect bite indication. The current will ensure the line is tight from the bait to the float. Whether the float is laying flat or slightly cocked will make no different to the bite detection. Hope this answers your question? Phil

Hi! Is anchovy a good bait? I watched a lot of videos from the UK, but I didn't see anyone using anchovies.

Generally it's frowned upon to use salt water bait fish in fresh water, because it can carry parasites between the waters 🙂

Hi recently got my son a ninja lure rod. With a ninja 3000 reel. Would the reel take 50lb braid do you know, Or would we need better equipment? Were a little eager to attempt piking
@AnglingDirectTV
@AnglingDirectTV 10 месяцев назад
Morning Aaron, The Ninja rod and reel will be fine 👌, 30lb braid would be best for the 3000 size reel and more than strong enough for casting small to medium lures. Good luck with your fishing Regards Phil,

As a beginner, I’m still confused, could you please clarify as to which size of weight to use and which weight of float. Is it the weight is a bit less than the float?
@J.Bromss
@J.Bromss Год назад
I use the weights used in the video. 15g ones work well with a 25g rated sliding float. If your going bigger with float then the 25g option works well
@AnglingDirectTV
@AnglingDirectTV Год назад
Hi Julie, the size size of the weight and float depends on the size of the river and flow. The main purpose of the weight it to anchor the dead bait still on the river bed. The float doesn't need to sit upright. Hope this helps Phil,
@simonspencer397
@simonspencer397 Год назад
It is confusing because, if he is fishing on the bottom as he seems to be, the whole set up is flawed. You try using his set up with any sort of flow, the float would pull under or the weight would lift and get dragged along. The only way he gets away with it is because that river is millpond still with almost zero flow. Most people would use an inline sliding float (i use 56g seatech pro eva ones) with enough lead to hold bottom (usually 3oz+) on run ring. And that's only fishing the slacks. The float shown is best for suspending a bait up in the water (in this case the weight would be a bit less than the float, say 20g for a 25g float as the bait itself weighs almost nothing when in the water).
@AnglingDirectTV
@AnglingDirectTV Год назад
@@simonspencer397 Phil’s set up holds still perfectly in slower flowing rivers such as the one fished in this video. But you are correct in saying a slightly different set is needed on faster flowing rivers. We have already filmed a Quick bite video showing how to set up a float for faster rivers and it will be posted on youtube on January 16th. Like Phil said in the video, if he covered every aspect of pike fishing the video would be 2 hours long.
@simonspeedo8122
@simonspeedo8122 Год назад
Its personal preference if you fish rivers with a 12ft 3 1/4 TC, a 11ft rod with 2.5tc to 3lb is all you need. Your not looking to launch baits on small to medium size rivers. It's a shame there are less n less brands making 11ft pike rods now.
@AnglingDirectTV
@AnglingDirectTV Год назад
Totally agree Simon, So long as the braid is tough enough having a softer through action rod can make the fishing even more enjoyable. Like you said it's getting increasingly more difficult to find rods like that now. Regards Phil,

@ianwitham7966
@ianwitham7966 Год назад
When would you use an uptrace?
@AnglingDirectTV
@AnglingDirectTV Год назад
Hi Ian, I tend to use an up trace more when using live baits. Especially when using a paternoster. The reason for an up trace with a live bait is because the bait can swim upwards towards the float, if the bait swims up too high a pike could get mouth full of braid when hitting the bait. I hope this makes sense? Regards Phil,
@easternundergroundsounds6977
