I constantly get tons of emails asking: how do I play Fnugg?
So I made a video tutorial describing every single aspect of how to play this iconic solo piece for tuba. This 30 minutes course describes in detail how to play multiphonics and the lipbeat. I even added many secret tricks and tips that I've never shared with anyone before. Whether you have played the piece before and want to pump it up to the next level, or you are entirely new to the music, this tutorial is for you. It even works if you want to learn Fnugg Blue or Fnugg Red.
The course includes the full downloadable sheet music of Fnugg.

The concert in Sweden was one of my first introductions into multiphonics. Because of it, I am now studying more advanced methods of multiphonics through studies of Albert Manglesdorff! It is absolutely amazing and I can bet more people on my campus now know more about multiphonics because of me!

Wish I had this video a few years ago! Fnugg was one of the three pieces I played for my music scholarship audition. I was happy with the multiphonics but the rest ended up a mess.

I’ve learned multiphonics on nearly all of my brass instruments and voice, now I’m moving on to my woodwind instruments. This was all started by you, thank you Øystein Baadsvik.

Everytime i here frugg i want to get a tuba more. I have played multiphonics on recorder ever since i figured out i could somewhere in the eighties. And then, in the nineties i picked up a bit of didgeridoo where that is used all the time. Such great fun

For work I do physics experiments on small electromagnetic systems. To understand my experiment, I need to come up with ways of thinking about my system as being made of oscillators interacting with one another. I used to play tuba many years ago, and I recently (~ 2 years ago) felt motivated to pick it up again. Experimenting with multiphonics (including detuned multiphonics), inspired especially by Fnugg, I find it deeply entertaining to think of my body and the tuba and two interacting oscillators. The analogy to the mathematics runs very deep, including that it seems when playing multiphonics on a tuba, it is not simply that your voice affects the tone of the tuba, but also the tuba fights back and affects the tone of your voice. Valve positions of the tuba can even affect which pitches of the voice are simply out of reach. The tuba player (tubist?) truly becomes one with the tuba. So great to see from your work that if I keep experimenting with how to make a tuba sound not like a tuba, I may come out the other side and make something that does not sound like a tuba but does sounds very musical.

This is wonderful - it’s so nice - like a conversation! Thank you for reminding us to have FUN playing our instrument (not like your teacher who told you to ‘never do that again!’) 🤣 So many of my students get tense and serious in lessons - they’re so afraid they’re going to make a mistake. This is when I try to remind them it’s called “playing”. When we remember to “play“, not only is it more fun, but more often times than not breakthroughs happen, and progress is rapid. You are a gift to the world and we love you for it!

@Øystein Baadsvik wait it's possible on trombone? Would I need a bass trombone for lower notes because my lower range isn't as clear.
