Tom! Your endless patience by repeating difficult sections has awakened my love of piano music and now struggling through Maple Leaf Rag. Have you or can you teach The Entertainer and 12th Street Rag? With your help I know I can master them (originally versions! If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.) Best wishes. John

🎵 Tom, this is an EXCELLENT tutorial of this must learn Joblin rag! With your wonderful video I have already learned the intro and both hands together for the first 4 bars! Thankyou so much for posting this amazingly detailed tutorial of this popular rag I recall hearing, along with The Entertainer in the movie "The Sting". I look forward to the other parts of this wonderful tutorial. Thankyou! 🎵

I really love all this type of music, Tom, even though I don’t normally read music. It’s a good chance to start reading it again, in order to learn the tune.

I've never been a sight reader. I played by ear since I was six, just had the knack for picking up tunes. My father had it, too. My brother, one of my nephews as well. But many years later I found I couldn't dispense with the notes any longer. However, those little black dots drive me mad! I even had a piano teacher briefly while living in Germany and I was so envious of her sight-reading skills. She was still a student at the Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne and she could play just about any piece of piano music, even if she'd never seen the piece before. These RU-vid tutorials at the keyboard are a really good way of learning.

@Linxador - you say that - in my piano book 'Pianistic 1' - advert! tomhorton.co.uk/music-books/pianistic-1.html ....I was composing one day, trying to think of something original. Rain started outside the studio and, as I was looking for a Latin American style number, came up with 'Raindrop Rhumba'....so it does happen :) Tom
