Your info has been very helpful. This will be the first time i've utilized a dmx board and i just want to make sure i get it perfect. The way the lights had been programmed prior to me taking this show was ridiculous, they had all the lights on one switch with no chases and no scenes. Whoever set it up obviously didn't watch your videos lmao... thanks for everything.
Dude, thanks do much for breaking it down into baby steps. I'm a rookie but I've been tasked to run the lights for my son's Christian Rock band that is a national band her in the US. (they have a single that just hit #23! & still climbing). You're segments are actually right in line in what I'm doing/learning. Please, keep it up. You've taken DMX confusion & made it make sense in a short amount of time. God Bless
hello mate, just got through watching your Learn to Programs, great stuff and really helpful to someone like me who hates to read the manual. Just finished Part 4 and really wanted to know how to program the moving heads in Part 5, as you mentioned, however, I cant find Part 5 anywhere. Could you PLEASE direct me to where I can learn how to program the moving heads. Thanks again for putting the time and effort into what you are doing, I for one really appreciate it. Cheers, Rob
This is fantastic! i learned so much as a first time dmx user... I have just a couple of questions. 1 when programming a chase how can you make the leds strobe in different colors during that chase? and 2 and using the midi on the controller can you use a midi footswitch to change the chases so you can say.. focus on mixing...
Could you upload how to do what you were talking about in the end of part 4? parts 5,6, and 7 are great but going back to the board would be great! also could you include strobes and integrating rope lighting into the controller?
A dmx bord dosent run from midi but there is alot of lighting software you can use midi to control lighting with midi over usb so if you wanted to you can map your audio contoler so that if you plug it in to a usb splitter it would do both audio as in your music software and lighting just by splitting the usb cable an plugging one in each computer im looking in to somthing like atm with a drum pad that uses midi over usb to trigger samples and run lighting in time with the samples
Quick Question. Is there are reason why my lights that are to be programmed on scanners 2, 3, 4, and so on not coming on. My lights have 4 channels and I set each as u mentioned (channel 1, 5, 9, ect) with the corresponding dipswitch combination provided by the online calculator. Please Advise!

HI THERE, is it possible to FADE UP SCENES? Say if I have set up a lot of different LED lights on quite a few channels and at the start of the gig I want to introduce somebody by just fading up all my lights on SCENE1 then after that fade out SCENE1. I'm thinking i had the dip switches configured wrong, because the lights just continually run without any programing from the dmx board, and all buttons on the dmx we're obsolete. i'm running a show with 24 par cans 8 on each side long wise, and four on the shorter sides. when setting the dip switches, should i have all power from the dmx board and the lights disconnected? And what is the max amount of lights you would put on a single switch? i was running four.
as far as the function dip switches on the par cam's go, i am having a problem where my blackout switch isn't working correctly. is this due to the function dip switches or the pattern dip switches Also what is the easy way to wire your lights so you can switch between using the dmx board and having them run automatically off just the music. I have the same exact lights You have helped so much already, thanks for everything. It's great how you take a complicated process and make it easy to learn
hi i got a problem i program in a chase but as soon as i get to chase 3 it copys the same scenes from chase 1 also when i copy a bank to chase 1 it also copys into chase 2 and sometimes 3
I have a couple of fixtures with 6 pods, do they have to have a channel for each pod. Also a Chauvet colorrail. Can I set the board to access sound to light mode.

there isnt any way to easily flick between sound to light and full DMX control unfortunatly with dip switches its the way it gose you have to reset the dips each time hence i just run of the controller all the time or off DMX software using the same addresses depending on the size of the show im doing as for the blackout switch whats happening to make you think its not working properly as it should kill any dmx signal from the controller thus the lights should just go off
i sorry for te delay in the reply been snowed under with work but now things ave calmed down the next one is up i kinda skipped a step straight to wireless DMX but coming back to movers on a board in the one after that

I have a beamtastic I can get the left and right up and down and different speed and colours BUT how can I get a different show? I go into show and choose say number 3 cool it stays on for 4 seconds the reverts back to the original setting AND I can record it. Plz help me restore my will to live lol
help. the led console lights for scanners 1 to 6 wont go off when selecting, deselecting and randomly flicker on and off when moving any sliders up and down or pressing any buttons. no dmx devices work on 1-6 either, anyone have any ideas?
i couldnt tell you the designers set the dmx channels and there uses you can usually find them in the manual if not just plug te item in and see what the channels react to

Thanks for doing this. As a total novice I was pretty confused/unfamiliar with all of this. I just went thru all your tutorials and by the end of them (along with re-reading the manuals) I was able to program my DMX/Led system with scenes/chases, etc. to the point where I feel comfortable taking them to a gig this weekend. Thanks for taking time to share your knowledge!!
yes from your description it dose sound like the function switches are wrong will dig one of mine out for you to copy the setting over. as for max amount of lights on one switch i take it you mean max lights on one dmx address ie how many lights would i put on channel 1 for instance. If so then i havent heard of a maximum number of fixtures on one address and have seen on large rigs 10 and 15 fixtures on the same address.
Dude this is a great video. I have this same controller and am programming Chauvet par4 Tri's, some movering heads, and dance floor lights. I was able to make my first chase and I really appreciate your help! Cheers!
Please help! I have two Led Cans and the DMX512 the led cans are both set to 001 and connected on the DMX512 so I pressed Scanner 1. But unlike yours when you turn up slider 1 nothing happens, turn up slider 2 and nothing happens too, turn up 3 and about 1/4 up the two lights lights up Red but it does not stay red but turns Blue, then changes to other colors. Turn it up more and the lights goes faster. This is also the same with SLIDER 4, it acts like SLIDER 3. Sliders 5 to 8 does nothing :(

Thank you for putting this together. The series has been fantastic. I have had a DMX controller for 6 months now and couldn't manage to get the thing to do anything. It wasn't the manual it was my lack of under standing what steps I needed to be able to do in order to get DMX to work with my system. I currently have 16 Blizzard Lighting Puck RGBAWs and 8 Blizzard Lighting ProPar Seven-4. All of the cable is quality dbx cable with a terminator at the end. Thanks again.
Hi, Question for you. I'm setting up the lights at our camp here and now have scenes and chases set up. However if I have a chase going and move a fader that light is no longer controlled by the chase or the scene button. I can't get the light to be controlled by the chase again without going back into and out of programing mode. Is this normal? Is there a way around this?
hi, I want to thank you everything you are doing is very informative! however I was wondering if there is a way to reset all the scenes and chases at once, I have an elation operator that has a few that are already programmed that I wish to remove not knowing what fixtures they are for. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me!
drcrippen you are the man! I do have a question. When you program your scenes and chases does the board keep these settings even when you power off the board?
James Butler yes it should always do a quick test scene first then kill the power and turn back on to make sure you have it rite before spending hours and finding you don't

I am, however, wondering if you might consider touching on midi in the next video? Even a quick reply to this comment might suffice. See, I think it would be cool to be able to control lights live via a silly or unique midi controller. I just don't know how a DMX board uses midi. Thanks again!!
