Maybe not. 😥. I feel I destroyed my hair and as I sat there trying to apply bleach with 20 vol with foils and al!, in a poorly ventilated bathroom, I actually had to wear my mask over my nose and mouth! Anyway, I digress. I must not of held the foils on long enough, and my hair came out Orange. So, now I want to apply Ash Blonde Toner over my orange tone. Wish me luck! 💇
I have followed your baby lights, root tap, and toning videos and my hair came out pretty great! Only question I can't find an answer to is re: highlight touch ups. How do blend the highlights in? I was afraid to overlap and there is a little banding where the highlight touch up is lighter than my old highlights. Do you feather the bleach down? I was afraid to try that.
Great tutorial! I would love to see one for toning highlights to deeper tones like cocoa or caramel for ex-blondes who recently went back to being brunettes ;)
Hello I actually lifted my base with a toner and was lift with orangy unwanted brassy roots. Do you think I could go in with this same technique and get the same results without leaving a line on my prelightned hair. I currently have a balayage done on my hair and I’m a level 9/10 and really don’t want a line so bring it down vertically and could I comb it through the highlights to leave it softer?
@Ellebangs I love your videos. You are very professional. Many women like this cool blonde which I agree it is amazing. But it does not suit everybody, some women actually look better with warm tones. One of them is me, I have medium skin and warm tones suit me so well. So instead of fighting the warmth I would like to embrace them. However I don't find anywhere videos about how to actually tone blonde hair to get a lovely warm shade. I only find videos about how to remove warmth from the blonde hair. Could you please make a short video about what toners people could use to create nice golden, beige, honey blonde and which toners we could mix together to create a nice warm shade? I am afraid to merely put a golden toner over my lightened hair because I don't know what the result will be. But I am sure there is a way to create nice warm shades over brassy lightened hair. I don't use bleach I use high lift Ash blonde which lifts my level 5 natural level to a level 9 yellowish blonde. I actually like the golden blonde which results from lifting my hair with the high lift, it suits me and it is really nice but I would like to tone it a bit to a golden beige which I know it is possible. Can you make a video showing how to tone warm blonde? Or how to go from cool to warm? That would be of a great help for people who want warm blondes because this is something I could not find on youtube.
Omg finally I've gotten my answer. Seriously I was so annoyed that wella toner kept lifting my natural hair and everyone that worked at Sally's was like oh toner doesnt lift...and I'm like seriously my natural hair is so freaking orange...how can you say it doesnt lift? Wow. THANK YOU. Also Love this tutorial!
Thank God for you and Redken Shades EQ. I don't have Clients any more and only do my own hair at home, but have battled to find a toner to counteract very light yellow WITHOUT the toner grabbing on porous hair and turning it PURPLE. I'm now using Redken Shades EQ 10P and Clear - what a difference! Thank you so much!
My stylist uses redken shades eq 9b, 9v, and 9n. Are there any toners from sallys close to these shades that you would recommend? I'd like to do my own hair but I'm afraid I won't find authentic redken without a license.
I have a question about the timing with the toners; how long do have to actually apply the toner before it sits to process? What if it takes you longer for placement than you thought? I am ready to try it however I’m not sure about the timing. I’ve watched some videos where ladies are rushing so quickly to place it. Please help! Thank you!!
I love your videos and I enjoy doing my hair at home,l but it would be really helpful if you could explain the color of the toner more and what colors you will be neutralizing with it! I don't know much about specific hair products or the color numbers that well and I can't always find Redken at the store.
You need to finish the end tip that you say t11 t18 will leave hair like this--x which is the last photo of blonde hair with orange roots. You said you recommended t11 t18 before but left with bad results. Soooo.... how or what would you use to illuminate that brassy roots?
Great video! The wella toners turn my dark brown hair orange/blonde when applied just like the picture. I purchased redken it’s amazing will never go back. Thank you!
so wish you were in NY,, you make everything look so easy and i have learned with most of america these few months that coloring your hair it a true art and you guys are magical artists lol. I def took for granted just being able to call up for a root touch, highlight or whatever i wanted at the time. You guys know your sh!& lol and i thank you for that!!!
Thank you so much for another wonderful tutorial! Whenever the salons are able to reopen (I’m not sure what the status is in CA currently), would you consider doing a video with a client who is transitioning back to their natural hair color? I’ve been blonde for a few years, but I’ve been growing out my roots due to quarantine. Since I don’t know when this will end/am also expecting a baby later in the year, I’m thinking now is the time to 🎶 let it go 🎵 I’d love to see how a professional hairdresser helps their clients transition smoothly!
Hi Sylvia , I came upon your Channel about 6 weeks ago and have been watching it through quarantine. I must tell you however that it makes me very sad that I have asked you questions several times and you have never ever responded? I even watched the lovely video of you and your mom and I couldn't help but notice in the comments All The Lovely things people had to say and you had almost nothing to say to all those people. Maybe you're really busy I'm just not sure. I really love your channel and I think you're very talented but maybe if you have some time you could answer some comments or acknowledge them. I'm not being bitchy really I'm just making an observation. Thanks, also one more thing. A couple of times when I ask you a questions I had total strangers answer me and give me advice😪
I just got highlights AND a toner all over, so I’m assuming I would just do the root tap/toner and not add in additional toner all over? I really hope you see this! I do want that root shadow look that you have so I’m banking on this being what I need 😂. I guess if I need to tone all over again, I’ll just cross that bridge when I get there.
hi! I have typical scandinavian hair, very fine and blond. It is about a level 10 at the top of my head and no darker than a 7 on the darkest parts. It gets very light when I spend a lot of time in the sun, and it gets damaged pretty easily. I wanna go all over platinum blonde, but do you think it is it better to do so with bleach and a low developer, or with a high light color? :S I never have an issue with hair turning orange as it lifts very easily. I just wanna do as little damage as possible
I did tone my hair this week with permanent colour and it turned out orange. Is there any thing I can do to fix it? Thank you for sharing so much information. God bless u
I so appreciate your hair videos! I’ve watched your layer cutting video as I trimmed my hair and now I can’t wait to try to time it! Thank you SO much!!
Do you mean ‘developer’ when you say ‘processing solution’ (ex. 20 vol.), or does Redken use something different to mix with the toner? Could you please link to the products?
Brown hair with highlights? I'm not a professional but what I would do is go to Sallys. Pick up Wella T18 (2 if you have a lot of hair) and 20 volume developer, any brand. Mix that up and apply the toner ONLY on the highlights. Use a small paint brush if you have to, but don't let it get on the brown.
Thank god I watched this video. I highlighted my own hair and it was a bit disastrous as I was quite gold after pulling foils. Thankfully I had watched this video. I used your product suggestions for root tap and toner. Ta da. Perfectly toned beige blonde highlights and the root tap covered up where the bleach had bleed into my hair line. Many thanks
Luane Ketcherd hey thanks so much. I haven’t done it yet haha too scared. I ended up getting the redken shades eq 6n but I have orange tones on my roots...
God, I wish I lived near you, I'd spend anything to have you help me with my super porous hair!! I seem to have really tricky hair (could be because I have hormonal problems and my natural hair is really curly?) so "professionals" always leave me with blotchy hair on which toner doesn't stay on (although I pay for it..) and freak out all the time that they CAN'T fix it because my hair is damaged (although I tell them, it was like that always..), I ended up doing my own hair at home. I've tried to make baby lights but I'm not good at it.. So, every month or so, the easiest solution for me is to dye to a level 9 all the dark rootage and then create a fake level 4 or so root leaving out some babylights, then I do a toner all over. My dream is to have a blend of darker untouched pieces and lighter ones like you, but I can't do it myself! ;((((
I followed the video from 5 years ago using the Well T18 toner and it totally made my non lightened pieces warm at the roots! Would i just tone the roots or do some color like a 7 (Its about there) and put that on the roots for 10 min? LIKE OMG its not what i was going for and i know my highlights were on point until the toner ruined it all.
I've never had luck with T18 in the past. I now use Wella 12a Frosty Ash to tone out brassiness. Keep in mind though it is a permanent color and not a toner.
That exact thing happened to me with the Wella toner, made my natural ashy brown roots orange! What EQ shade would you recommend to tone back to a light ashy brown??
I toned my bleached hair with half of 7N and half of 8VB but what do i do once my roots will grow they level 5 cool brown do i need to bleach my roots and apply eq again or is there a colour dye that i can use and will give me the same shade of dark blonde with lift at the same time or do i need to keep bleaching my roots every time?
Got my hair highlighted 2 weeks ago and not sure if my stylist left the toner on too long or didn’t process the bleach light enough to receive toner but I’m so unhappy with the color. My hair looks orange and the highlights are a darker color. Ugh!!!!
What do you recommend for me this summer my daughter is getting her apprenticeship at a very popular salon but does not have time nor is she at this level yet I'm normally med brown she put highlights in my hair 6 months ago n my gray is coming back in at the root YOUR AMAZING IVE WATCHED SO MANY OF YOUR VIDEOS AND TRUST YOUR OPION some love my all brunette some love the light blonde what do think. How can I send a pic to you?
This video was so good!!! AND, I LOVED our virtual consultation, the results of the toning formula you told me to get was beautiful!! I'll send you a pic as soon as i refresh my roots!! xoxo
Thanks girlfriend this is exactly what I was looking for. Been in colorist for 14 years with the past few years kinda focusing elsewhere and doing my routine clients. So when my regular blonde highlight client told me she wanted a "balayage" it threw me a curve ball and when I overly explained it to her after she asked what the price would be I basically broke it down to two options depending on her budget. First option being way more complex but more dimensional and the second option that she chose was simpler version which I'm going to use the techniques in this video. Saved her $110 and 3 hours of complex baby lights and root smudge, toners ECT. I love your technique and that it was short and to the point. (Unlike my run on sentences) you're beautiful and really easy to look at ( bonus.) You even through in an extra bonus talking about t18 which people get confused about (admittedly myself included). I'm converting to matrix which I have on hand but your techniques were perfect I'm just going to leave the front hair line out till the end though so she can keep that brightness. You have a new subscriber. And [not so secret] admirer ;) If you're wondering what I've been focusing on the past few years outside of hair.. I've been painting a lot and also I'm a bouncer now at a busy bar in St Pete FL. So I study painting techniques and fake IDs. Thanks again! Xo
I have highlights that i want to tone but i have about 1inch of dark brown roots. If i tone my whole head will the toner or developer lift my roots? I am afraid i will end up with warm roots. What developer should i use to avoid lifting my roots when toning highlights?
recently had hair dyed very blond which I liked the high lift but then added ice toner and now have grey hair. yuck. How can I fix this?? Will it just wash out or am I stuck with grey?
What about re-toning the roots for a root melt look that’s ash mouse colour? I wreaked my tone by putting a scalp scrub which had sodium chloride :( what toner can I use that doesn’t have lift? I got it done professionally so I don’t know what they used
Hello so helpful thank you! Yet on the last video for your root tap you used an EQ6N. on this one an E8N! so I am confused which to use? I like your toner levels on your outcome...
that weird because the gay guy from yourtube says toners should be fast not let it sit for so long and he is a pro. The lady that toned my hair did it quick so it makes sense when the pro gay guy said it needed to be quick
Hey! I am looking into Schwarzkopf toners, which toners would you suggest using to create this beautiful melt? I am coming from a lvl 9 neutral blonde.
Is it beat to apply toner on dry hair? I dyed my hair with Ion hi lift cool blonde and my hair turned out a light orange color - should I apply T14 toner? What are your thoughts
I just bought t18, now I’m scared to use it. I’m naturally a 3/4 at roots and mid strand and ends are about 8/9. What color for root shadow and a toner for ends should I use? I’m more gold and brassy right now. HELP ! Someone 😩
