One item that you could expand on is the octave number that each string is tuned to. For example the G string is G3, D is D4, A is A4, and E is E5.

I am continually shocked by how many stringed instrument players do not understand this concept-this is the foremost important truth about stringed instruments! Learning chords seems to be where most people stop! Thanks for covering this so thoroughly BBC!

Prove it! Yeah mine is a 1999 Gibson F5G. John Fogerty owned it briefly before I got it in 2000. I just discovered you. Mon be signin up for your lessons. I haven't played in 10 years. Been doing vocals and guitar.

@@steefhol7387 He got it from Mandolin Brothers in New York then traded it back in on another one. I wound up buying the one he traded back because I liked it and it was in my price range. They sold it to me as new with the Gibson warranty for like $2600. This was in 1999 or 2000. It is still my main mandolin.
