Yep, you got it. Stop. Have a break. Do something different. Relax. Then get back to it. You don't even need to watch the video now. Even better!

This really does apply to everything. With me its a guitar piece. The more I get frustrated the worse I play. I stop, take a day off. Suddenly like magic I play it flawlessly. Great advice sir!

I know! It is crazy how it works. Sometimes the longer you have off, the better at it you get. I quite often say that I should not practice more often, haha🤙

Been watching your videos and practicing new tricks, been trying to learn foot jam tail whips, after watching your how-to on the decade, decided I wanted to try that as well, so this morning I decided to spend 40 minutes on the decade, and 20 minutes on the tailwhip. LANDED MY FIRST TWO TAIL WHIPS TODAY!!! I've been riding every other day, and I feel like I improve a ton on the days I don't ride, when the knowledge and muscle memory kind of sets in I guess. Anyways, super huge thank you for all the quality how to videos, as well as the inspiration that at 37 I'm not too old to learn flatland.

That is so great! I definitely improve when I take some time off. I have heard coaches that I trust saw that rest is just as important as practice. Also, you are a youngan! Take care🤙

Dude, awesome vid! I love this advice and appreciate you showing some of those old school tricks. I am getting back into riding after 30 years away and struggle with even the most basic flatland stuff so this helps me a lot!

Great to hear you are getting back to it. There seems to be a few of us old guys riding flat again. Haha, I kind of struggle doing any of the new brakeless stuff. It is SO hard! Keep me updated with your progress 🤙

I was doing some first tries at a new trick, but not really committed, just feeling it out. That night I had a dream where I did the trick perfectly, and could really feel what was needed for it. The next day I went out and did it first try, I knew what it should feel like....... :O

Wow. You have the skill and the know-how. I'd trust anyone who's been there and done that and shares their knowledge and tips. Don't need any scientific basis. We have been wrongly taught to believe in science which is heavily flawed anyway. Love your vids mate. Truly inspirational. I'm almost 55 and been riding bikes since I was 5. Planning to buy a decent second hand BMX and practice what you are teaching. Cheers!

Hey Darren, good to hear that you are getting back to tricks. There are a few bikes around, or if you are looking at a complete build new, I'd recommend the Colony Apprentice. This is a great start. Or a little higher up in components, the colony Prody full build. Cheers 🤙

@@bmxbanditdude Thanks Scott. Amazingly, I told my friend what I was up to and said I'm needing a bike with 3 pce cranks, cro-mo frame (or at least front triangle), 21" top tube etc. He picked up a bike from the local tip and bought it around to me the same day. Behold; a Mirraco Ensin with the above specs. Some WD 40, replacement front tube and grips and I'm almost done. I paid him $10 for the bike. God's looking after this old BMX'r. Cheers man!

This is very true. I've been working on Snake Spins for a long time now. if I stop working on it for a least 3 days and just Think about the trick and vision myself doing it. Then when coming back to practice the spin, I pull it on the first try. As of now its 2 and a half circles. Soon I will get them consistent. :) Happy Riding!

Hey, that is awesome-the snakespin is one of my favourite tricks! I am getting stuck swapping my hands on the bars as the spin changes from forwards to backwards. Basically, I just can’t do it. I have been trying for yonks. Might you have any tips/advice about swapping the bars from one hand to the other?

I'm an old school rider just getting back into it. I'm also a tennis player trying to work my way into lower level pro events. So I love both. However, tennis courts are generally made with a cloth like mesh then laminated with a sort of resin. They're generally not concrete. When the resin cracks, the courts are on their deathbed. Delamination will soon follow. Bike pegs and pedals are the main culprits. Ride somewhere else, or just don't fall.

Also, one thing I just started doing, is having a main and secondary trick I'm practicing, I'll spend 40 minutes on primary trick, throwing secondary trick in a few times, then last 20 minutes on secondary trick, with a few of the primary trick thrown in.
@bmxbanditdude
@bmxbanditdude Год назад
I can't really spend longer than 10 minutes on any one trick. Or possibly even 10 goes at one trick. I have to split them up, and come back to them later (or the next day). More recently I have been trying front wheel tricks, then back wheel tricks, then front wheel, then back. This gives me a good enough break between the different styles so I don't become too disheartened by the lack of immediate progress 🤙

@@bmxbanditdude I tried doing tailwhips for an hour straight last week, and I definitely hit a wall where instead of getting better, they were getting worse (and I still hadn't landed any), and then this morning in the last 20 minutes I landed my first two. I definitely liked breaking it up, and I think I'll pick another few tricks from your how tos so I can have more than two things to work on. I LOVE how you break things down into smaller steps, for my learning style, your videos are fantastic. Thank you for giving this young guy who sometimes feels old some inspiration, looking forward to your future videos!

When you practice a trick,do you put the bike in the postion you want and learn the balance point? Or start from the beginning after dabbing? For instance learn the endo while practicing a hang five or squeakers in that position and push and roll to it feela like you got it then just go for it. I feel like on alot of the tricks you want to turbine have to be done from scratch.Ive been working on Mc-circles turbined for as long as and as fast as possible that it looks like an out of control spin. But i always needed to start from the beginning cause i cruise into it very fast and the moment to carry the speed for 3 or 4 spins without scuffing.I pump glide a lil though.
@bmxbanditdude
@bmxbanditdude 2 года назад
Oo, I reckon I start from the beginning and build up to it. Go too far, then try and refine it and bring it back. But I guess it depends. I remember trying to learn the cherrypicker and my mate holding the bike upright while I climbed up. Hang 5s, I can't remember, but learning them on my other foot last month, I just went for it. Same with fakies and bar rides. Just kind of went for it. Mc circles… just going for it. Or I might start by swinging the back of the frame around to build momentum. Cheers 🤙
