Thank you sister for the proper translation of the text. I just took a break from a debate with a Christian against Tovia Singer. Singer just quoted the verse saying any leader could be considered "a Messiah" He says the verse is referring to a person who gets killed in "the final war"& that person causes a mourning over Israel & brings about a repentance to the nation" Your dispelling of that plainly & clearly has helped immensely. It can be hard for you to know, as there are several rules for that. If the text includes cantillation mark, the accented syllable will always be marked with a cantillation mark. Its also important to note that whenever ET is used, the very next word is the object that receives the action. So in Zechariah 12:10, it's the ASHER (WHOM) that receives the stabbing, therefore, it cannot mean because or concerning but has to relate to the WHOM - If ET referred to the they, ET would have been before the word they. If anyone is unsure of what the direct object should mean, use the verb and try all the words with it - for example; We know the Action/verb is THEY PIERCED - DEQARU - So if you were to say, They pierced WHOM , that would make sense. but it does not make sense if you say, They pierced because or They pierced concerning Whom is the object that receives the piercing - whom also refers to the ME which is God. Rabbis struggle with this so they avoid the scripture and read their mistranslations from Rashi commentary LOL
The Hebrew Tanach says "דקרו" which means "they have stubbed" or "they have pierced" implying, with a sharp object. Not sure where you are seeing "thrust through", but that could be another valid translation, which essentially means the same thing. The word "pierced" will typically be avoided by traditional/rabbinical Jews, as it makes people think of the crucifixion, and think of Yeshua/Jesus and they don't want Jews to have this realization that this prophecy IS actually talking about Yeshua!
